For a couple months now, I’ve been gathering suggestions on what food we should serve at the wedding. And while we can’t please absolutely everybody, since everything will be delicious (when aren’t desserts delicious?) I think people *should* survive if their most favorite-ever-pastry isn’t on the 20-foot buffet.
And with no further adieu, here’s the list:
(Note: the new Justin Timberlake song is on in the background, and there’s a slight possibility I was just twirling and dancing around my apartment singing, “I’m bringing dessert back!”. Maybe.)

This has been driving me nuts since we first got engaged. It’s something I read in this article on the Knot with a suggested schedule for a bride having an evening wedding. There are several things in the article that seem antiquated, if not downright presumptuous (you MUST stay in a hotel on your wedding day! You MUST have a gaggle of bridesmaids at your beck and call!–makes me want to vomit). But there’s one bit that just stands out and REALLY irritates me:
12:30 p.m. Hair and makeup stylists arrive. Maid of honor is first on the get-ready list. You can focus on visiting with the girls, packing for your honeymoon, knitting, or some other quiet activity.
KNITTING?! Barf! I’m surprised they’re not admonishing me to sit and demurely mend my fiance’s socks, or perhaps practice batting my eyelashes and introducing myself as “the humble wife of Mr. Hoops”. Are we still living in the 1950’s or, worse, the 1880’s?
I’m probably overreacting, but I can’t believe this article. I understand and certainly agree with the point they’re trying to make–don’t stress yourself unnecessarily–but I can’t believe they’re so oblivious to the contemporary woman that all we’re fit to do in our nervous, pre-marital state is knit. And this is coming from someone who does enjoy crafting and handiwork.

Hi! I’m so excited to be a part of Weddingbee. I’ve been an avid reader since I discovered the site back in June or July and am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute.
My fiance and I are planning a wedding for May of next year in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. My parents live there and my mom has been the biggest help with wedding planning. We’re both very crafty and into DIY projects, and I hope to be able to help other brides out by posting instructions, ideas, and inspiration! Plus, we’re on a budget, so I love the challenge of creating high-end results from not-unlimited resources!
As for the wedding, we found the perfect venue — a historic mansion for the reception with lovely grounds for the ceremony. Our colors are cobalt blue and silver with accents in ivory and black, and I’ve been having a great time working with the subtle “star” theme we are using. I’ve got twinkle lights to decorate the reception area, we are doing all the stationery DIY with star shaped rubber stamps, and so many other little touches that I hope will create a magical, dreamlike environment for our guests!
Mr. Blueberry and I are both dessert fanatics, so instead of a sit-down dinner we’re having a dessert buffet with a wedding cake, groom’s cake, two chocolate fountains, cookies and pastries, candy, and fresh fruit. We’re also going to offer our favorite wine, and Boulevard beer–a Kansas City tradition!
I’m very detail-oriented, and more than a little bit of a perfectionist, so I hope that our wedding day will be as perfect as I’m envisioning. I’m so grateful that I’ve been given the opportunity to share my process here on Weddingbee, and hope I can help other brides as much as the current bloggers have helped me.
