I won a large lot of vintage sheet music on ebay a few weeks ago, and now have slowly begun to turn it into decorations. Yesterday I finished my cones — 130 or so — and today I’m making more centerpieces. You should see the place cards Mr. Caterpillar’s mama is working on.

Mr. Caterpillar and I have been trying to get our registries together, and it’s taking forever. So far we’ve selected silver and china from Michael C. Fina and some bakeware from Williams Sonoma. Part of the problem is that I don’t actually believe people will purchase things from our registry. Yellow people always give cash, which is really ideal; and everyone else will just laugh at the idea of a $200 canape dish.

6. My future husband prefers to wear shorts and baseball hats. So we have decided to alter a tux into shorts. He will also wear a custom made baseball hat that says “I DO” on one side and “JUST MARRIED” on the other. It will be the same colors as our color scheme. I am wearing a custom made dress I designed myself to compliment his ” tux”. I will be barefoot with intricate beaded “slave anklets.”

12. I got married in December and had a huge wedding. We weren’t really sure what to do for favors for the guests, but i wanted to do something unique, so we had coozies made up with our name and wedding date and two wedding bands intertwined- The coozies were black with white writing and everyone loved them. We had an open bar at the reception and so when we gave them out, everyone put there beer in them and carried them around all night. Now when we go to parties it is so neat because at least 2 people have our coozie with them and it makes our day. I liked the idea because it is so practical and I knew people would use them. It wasn’t too expensive around 350.00- we only had about 250 made for 400 guests, because not everyone comes to the reception and we didn’t give them out until about 8:30pm…so only the people that were there got one and we didn’t have any left. It was a great idea.

Clearly, I am a terrible person to mock the ideas put forth by hardworking brides; but a shorty tux? Really? And beer cozies?

Mr. Caterpillar and I went to look for wedding bands, and he decided on a plain yellow gold one from Tiffany’s. As the saleswoman wrapped it, she sighed, “Every boy dreams of that little blue box.” I couldn’t stop laughing.

We spent the week in Santa Cruz, or rather, I spent the week in Santa Cruz while Mr. Caterpillar was at SXSW. He arrived on Saturday morning, and brought me some barbeque sauce.

We went to the wedding site, and it’s amazingly beautiful. The area reminds me of my grandparent’s house in Palos Verdes — sort of horsey and oceany all at once. I think I would have rather had Oakes Field in theory, but Rooster Point is significantly more convenient (and free of goggling UCSC students).

I met with the caterer, and we planned a menu. She gave me an estimate, and then I asked her for a giant tent and a chandelier, so she had to go back to the drawing board. If I let all my guests stand out in the hot sun, I could save at least $3,000. My mother does not think this is acceptable.

I also met with two florists and three cake people.

Now Mr. Caterpillar and I have to figure out registries.

I secretly love Impression Bridal. They offer nothing that is not crazy. And their gowns even work miracles! From their press release about “Magic Fit”:

Amazing, no? Maybe it moves the fat up from the mid-section and adds it to the bust. I think I had that idea some time ago, but the technical aspects eluded me.

1. I booked the wedding site today.
2. I bought my dress/veil/lingerie/shoes today.
3. My shoes are gold sandals with 4″ heels, similar to the ones above. Not so appropriate.
4. I looked at bridesmaid dresses. But at Carolina Herrera, which is just mean.
5. I bought some other shoes today, just because I wanted them. They’re 4.5″ round toe pumps.
6. I refused to buy the recommended bodysuit/contortionist contraption because it had a thong. Thongs are gross.
7. I bought the 4.5″ shoes in tan, but I really wanted them in black and white snakeskin.
8. I am being pressured to send Save-the-Date cards, but I think they’re kind of weird.

Mr. Caterpillar and I are getting married. He asked me yesterday, in Central Park, in the Pineteum. It went something like this:

Mr. Caterpillar: Will you marry me?
Me: What?
Mr. Caterpillar: Will you MARRY ME?
Me: Really?
Mr. Caterpillar: Yes, will you marry me?
Me: Are you sure? I’m so weird!
Mr. Caterpillar: Yes, because you’re so weird.
Me: YES!

My ring is gorgeous! Though, it’s back at the jeweller’s to be sized. Supposedly it’s going to be done Wednesday. I hope Cartier doesn’t mind that I’m camped out in front of their store the night before.

Right now, I’m carrying the box around. That’s how crazy I am. I’m carrying the box around and showing it to people. Though all agree the box is very nice.
