About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
Lena, my Matron of Honor, needs something to wear for our wedding. I love the strapless tea-length dresses at Jim Hjelm, but Lena is averse to wearing strapless. Now as a friend of mine pointed out, “It’s your wedding and she’ll wear what you want her to wear! Pull a bridezilla!” While I’d love to do that, I can’t. I really want her to be comfortable at our wedding, not wearing something she’d hate. Then again, since it will be a November morning, I suppose I could get her sweater as a gift, maybe with a nice brooch. Hmm, time to re-think that.
Anyway, these are our colors (top left more of a coppery color):

Following my veil option post, I was looking for something that may be a little different. While I don’t think I want to stray from the traditional, something inside me wants to be noticed as I walk down the aisle. These non-veil looks may be in the running. They range from feathers to flowers, hairpins and combs. All of these were found at theknot.

Even though I have fallen for one dress in particular, I haven’t tried more on or anything. So, I can’t really buy a veil yet, right? Since childhood (years of Halloweens playing Bride), the one thing that spelled “Bride” to me was the veil. These are the ones I’m considering using - all found at theknot.
This is the Lori London blusher, I like how it doesn’t just lay flat on your face.

Like many of the Bees (bugs, flowers, fruit) before me, I thought I’d share my engagement ring with everyone. Shinnnny…

Up close pudge hand shot.

Not only are Mrs. Bee and I both scorpios, but it looks like our respective sig. others think alike. For my birthday, I was given an onyx nintendo DS lite, along with a carrying case (because I drop things) and the Super Mario Bros. game.

He wanted to get me the pink one like Mrs. Bee, but since I got tired of my pink ipod so fast, he figured the black wouldn’t be as annoying to me later. Which I am glad for, deep inside.

I live in Los Angeles, land of traffic jams. Oddly enough, after living here my entire life - I Don’t Drive. You know that song, “Nobody Walks in L.A.?” Yeah, well, I do.
When I tried on that Jasmine, I realized I looked like a meatball. For the past three years, I’ve been on steroids for my asthma and it has made me gain 40 pounds, maybe more (I’m afraid to look at the scale). I used to be a size 7, but now I’ve pooched up to a larger size (not telling). I was told it takes 2 to 18 months to lose the weight, but I thought about helping it along.
To lose some weight, I thought about getting a bike and riding it with my trusty pooch along side me. Then we looked at Woofie’s stubby legs and thought he may get entangled in the spokes, so that was abandoned. Then I decided to get one of those ab chair things.

I have a decision to make: whether or not to wear my glasses during the wedding. Ever since I had surgery to correct cataracts in my eyes, I’ve had fake lenses implanted in them. One eye is nearsighted, and the other is farsighted. This makes for quite the pain when it comes to getting glasses because I have bi-focals. In my right eye, the top part of the lens is nearsighted and the bottom is farsighted to correct my vision. Vice-versa for the left eye. This means I have FOUR different prescriptions for two eyes.
I was told by my opthamologist that I can’t wear contacts because they will badly scratch my artificial lenses.
Even if I could, I could only imagine how thick those contacts would be! So, that leaves me wearing rectangular tortoise shell glasses every day of my life. Oh well, no biggie.
My question is, should I not wear glasses in the wedding pics? Or maybe I should get a fancier, possibly rimless pair of glasses to wear during the wedding - to allow me to actually see Mr. Kiwi when I walk up the aisle! I could take pictures with and without, so I really have my choice of which ones to keep.
These rimless pair caught my eye: They are by Chanel, as you can see by the interlocking cs.

Next year at this time, I’ll be married!! When I woke up at 6:30 this morning, I told Mr. Kiwi, “Next year, at 6:30am, I will totally be sleeping.” Then he mentioned the teensy fact that I will have to get my hair done at some point, if I want to look good by the 10am ceremony. Why did we choose such an early time?
Like I said in my About Me post, this day has been significant for me for many years. 94 years ago, my Grandma was born. She was a great influence, almost a second mother. She went from being raised in a (literally) tar papered shack in Arkansas, to being the valedictorian in her college class - quite the task for a woman in the 20’s/30’s.
She never got to meet Mr. Kiwi, but I know she would have loved him. Since our birthdays were 2 days apart, it was almost like we had a special bond - being her youngest grandchild out of 6 may have helped, too.
Anyway, a little bit of melancholy in rememberance of my grandma, the coolest woman ever.

Well, I finally did it. I went dress shopping. Okay, more like, dress looking-over, but I did try one on. I saw it on the rack and was in awe of what I saw. The color was stunning, the detail amazing, the weight- INSANE! This thing was seriously 20 pounds, if not more. The good news? At $900.00 it’s under budget (in fact, I found a place I can get it cheaper!). The bad news? I need to lose weight before I get it, otherwise I’m going to look like a sausage. That is not very attractive, right? I still have to try on more, and bring a camera, too. This is the front:

I am so excited to be a bee, I’ve loved this site for so long! I’m 26, turning 27 on Sunday (yikes), and I live in Los Angeles with Mr. Kiwi and Woofie the dog. I spend my free time either hanging out with my dad, or going to Mr.Kiwi’s various sporting events that he coaches. Although I am neither married, nor a mom- they call me the Team Mom. Yes, I love it.
My dad is one of my best friends, even though that is not the coolest thing to do, but it works for us. I have the most boring job ever, but it leaves me plenty of time to research cool and interesting wedding things, whether it be for my wedding, or someone else’s. Our Autumn wedding will be packed full of leaves, pumpkins and candy corn, and all things burnt orange.
Mr. Kiwi and I have been dating this time around for three years, as of yesterday, (Happy Anniversary, honey!) - we briefly dated 9 years ago when we both worked at Jamba Juice. When we get married, it’ll be a full decade almost to the DAY of our FIRST dating anniversary! Time flies when you’re scouring Friendster for the man you should have known (back then) you’d love!
