I’m digging the .champagne.espresso.chocolatebrown. direction or combo for bridesmaid dresses. I guess I should pick bridesmaids first, huh? These are all from Nordstrom’s website. I think I’m gonna let everyone I ask pick their own dresses and shoes within a color family. It doesn’t have to be the same designer or exact color, even. Heck, they can even buy something from forever21, if they so desire.

I received the following in some silly wedding spam newsletter I somehow got signed up for:
As the Bride, it is your duty to choose what the men in your wedding will wear. Most people choose tuxedoes or dark suits, but there are a variety of options for men today. It is common to match the color of the cummerbund and bow tie to the color of your bridesmaid’s dresses. Or you might opt for white dinner jackets for a fifties’ flair. Use your imagination but remember many men feel uncomfortable dressed up so simpler is usually better.
If you want a different look for your fiance and his attendants (and they’re willing to go for it), try something other than a regular tuxedo. For instance, if he is Scottish, the men may wear kilts, or if you love country, they can wear “Texas Tux” or cowboy boots and hats with their tuxedo. Talk it over with your fiance before you make a final decision.
Um, Mr. Lime is a grown man and perfectly capable of dressing himself. Yes, I have a vision of the overall look and a preference for what the guys will wear, but I want him to have some say in it, too. I’m not sure it’s my “duty” either, thankyouverymuch. As long as it fits within the overall level of formality for our wedding (still TBD), I’ll be fine with whatever the guys pick. If they want my help, I’ll be happy to give it, but I’m not going to force something on them. I’m going to be Mr. Lime’s wife, not his mother telling him and his friends what to wear.

Miss Strawberry’s entry on her milk + cookies favor idea reminded me of an amazing gift we once received from a client. It was a dozen, individually packaged, freshly-baked cookies in the cutest packaging from DeLuscious. They also came with a quart of whole milk from Broguiere’s Farm Fresh Dairy, a local dairy that is known for making and packaging milk the old-fashioned way. The cute vintage glass bottles are great too. It was such an indulgent and decadent gift, while not being stuffy at all.
DeLuscious are delivery only and do not have a retail storefront. They could be a perfect midnight snack or parting gift for your reception guests, if you timed the delivery right [not sure if they have after-hours delivery available, though].
Oh, and the cookies are indeed delicious + luscious = deLuscious. My personal faves of the ones I’ve tried are oatmeal chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, and chocolate decadence. Sense a trend here? The chocolate decadence is like no cookie you’ve had before. It’s so rich, it crumbles as you pick it up because it’s so soft, literally melts in your mouthy, and it’s oh-so-slightly glazed adding a little extra sweetness to balance out the richness of the bittersweet chocolate.

I forgot how I first came across this website (it was probably dailycandy or something). The prices are great and the jewelry looks great too! I ordered some earrings as Christmas gifts last year, and all the receipients loved them and the quality. They would also make great bridesmaids gifts and the spring/summer collection has a lot of pearl pieces that could even work for more casual bridal jewelry. Check it out.
I’ve read a number of articles on wedding bargains and how to cut wedding costs. A few say to call venues for quotes, but not to mention the word wedding. Some go so far as to say that you should tell them it’s for a family reunion or some other get together. I don’t know, but whenever I think about doing that, my conscience pokes me…
…but then again, venues aren’t really all that ethical if they would rent the same space for the same amount of time to someone else for half the price, right? (not sure if this second one is a question of ethics).
What do you think?
We did our e-pic shoot a couple weeks ago. Our photographer already posted some of the raw images on his blog, but here are a few of my favorites. We were both a little nervous and self-conscious, so some of the images came out a little awkward-looking. Michael and his assistant Travis were great, non-intrusive, and down to do whatever it took to get the shots (including getting dripped on by soapy trees and getting super cold and wet at the beach). I can’t wait to see the rest!

Brides Against Breast Cancer is coming to LA and it looks like they still need volunteers. I kind of wish I didn’t have a dress yet so I could go to this thing. I guess I could always donate mine when i’m done. Links below for those interested, copied & pasted from their website.

I am so excited to be a part of the team, especially since I’ve been an avid reader for awhile! I was at work when I got the news, and I could barely contain my excitement, but I had to as a client called JUST as I was reading the email.
I’m looking forward to sharing this planning journey with all of you, and I hope it helps you with yours…and provides some entertainment in the process.
Woohoo. Having to drive down there on a weeknight to turn in the application and deposit in person was a pita. Good thing the wonderful Mr. Lime did it! And good thing he has a motorcycle… boo to LA traffic!

The Clarke Estate. In August. EEK. Time to start getting my planning butt into gear. The rental fees are not that cheap unless you are a resident of the city since it is a city-owned property. Time to find a very reasonable caterer. The good news is we can bring in our own alcohol - Bevmo/Costco/whatever local wine shop that delivers, sets up, and allows returns, here we come!
