I had my hair and makeup trial w/Sashiko yesterday, and she was awesome. She’s very friendly and so nice. We tried a bunch of hairstyles, and she really listened to what I wanted and made some helpful suggestions as well. I love the hair, and the makeup is how I wanted it.
Without further ado… (BTW please ignore the stupid faces I’m making in the pictures)
Hair:
I will be going for my hair and makeup trial with Sachiko this week. I’m so excited! I was thinking of looking for some sparkly clips and pins to use in my hair. But other than my veil, camera, and examples of how I would like to do my hair & makeup, what else should I bring? What did you bring to your makeup trial?

There’s going to be a winter storm tonight in the NYC area, and I got this in my e-mail. I would love to go - I could use some Bahamas R&R. It’s extremely cheap too. Just thought I should pass this along in case anyone is interested.
It would make a nice mini-moon also.

NEW YORK–FEBRUARY 13, 2007– CheapCaribbean.com just slashed a Bahamas vacation to $399. This offer includes roundtrip air from New York and 3 nights at the award- winning Sheraton at Our Lucaya beachfront resort.
We especially like this 40% OFF deal because it’s available for long weekend getaways. You can travel 7 days a week between Feb. 26-April 29 (based on availability).
As the time draws closer to my trip to Thailand, my first fitting, and not to mention the actual wedding date, I realize that I need to start buffing up and losing some weight fast! My ultimate goal is to lose about 30lbs by my 1st fitting - which thankfully will not be until mid summer. However I do need to shed some pounds by the time I head off to Bangkok in April, especially because I will be taking pictures on the beach there as well as getting my Thai costumes tailored there. I’ve been procrastinating about this, but I really don’t think I can delay much longer. I’m already behind in the game. So with that in mind, I have a little over 2 months to work with until I go to Thailand.
I’ve never been very slim unlike many Asian women are. I have some curvature here and there, and I’ve been quite content with that. The smallest street size I’ve ever worn was a size 5 in my first few years of college. As it stands right now, I’m pushing between an 8-10. Which isn’t by any means huge, but I would like to go back to the size I was when I was in college. And being short, (I’m only 5′2″) I have a small frame so a little weight on me goes a looong way.
I’ve signed up for SparkPeople which is a free online dieting community, and I’ve found a wealth of information there. There are members I’ve found who are truly inspirational. WeddingBee even featured a knottie guest who raved about SparkPeople. I totally recommend signing up.

For our wedding favors, I wanted to incorporate something that has significance to our Thai or Chinese heritage. These are my favorites so far:
A) Soap intricately carved into a Thai floral ‘Malai‘

Here are some Resports in Thailand that I have been looking into.
Cha-Am/Hua-Hin:

In April, my FI and I are going to head to Thailand for a vacation, as well as to get some things for the wedding done.
1) I will have my Thai cultural dresses as well as my FI’s suits tailor-made there.
2) I will be printing my invitations there.
3) I will be picking out my favors from there.
4) I will having an outdoor engagement type photoshoot there.
I’ve already contacted an excellent freelance photographer in Bangkok, and placed a deposit. So here’s the fun part - choosing the location! From the start I knew I had to take pictures on the beach. The sand, the surf, the beautiful scenery. I began researching different places from expensive resorts, to private secluded beach villas. In the end the villas won me over. Even though the resorts are very modern looking and trendy, I knew the beach would be swamped with tourists and visitors. The last thing I want in my pictures is to see swarms of people in bikinis and speedos, that really shouldn’t be in them. Haha!
Along with my hair trial, Sachiko is also going to be doing my makeup trial. I’ve been looking at a few pictures, and here are the ones I’ve liked so far.

Next month I will be going for my 1st hair/makeup trial with Sachiko Yanase (the same person that Miss Orange had her trial with), so I’ve been looking through some hair and makeup ideas. I know for sure that I want my hair to be half up, just because my think I look funny with all my hair pulled back. Here are some of the styles I’ve been looking into.
While in the midst of my wedding planning, I got to reminiscing about my cousin Khonnie’s wedding. She got married a few years ago in Palm Beach, FL and my entire family flew in. I had a blast! It’s always such a warm feeling when your whole family gets together. Here are some pictures:
After we got engaged my FI and I moved in together. Right now we are living in a 1 bedroom apartment in Long Island close to where we both work. Prior to that we were both still living with our parents. We are planning to buy a home for ourselves in a few years, when Mr. Orchid is finished with his residency. Planning and financing a wedding while trying to buy a home is too financially stressful for us right now. We plan to start saving up for our new home immediately after the wedding, and we should have a good amount to start with by the time he’s done.
Which got me wondering…
A few months after we got enagaged, I moved in with my FI. One of the biggest topics that was brought up, was how we would share the expenses. We decided that we would open up a joint checking account to pay for the living expenses and a joint savings as well, because we were planning to pay for the wedding ourselves. Aside from that, we were also maintaining our own personal checking and savings accounts each.
Most importantly, it was very imperative to find a savings account with a high interest rate to get the most bang for our money. Every month after all the living expenses were paid, we would try to dump as much money as possible into our wedding savings. This past weekend we did a brief analysis of how much we have been putting into our wedding savings since we opened the account, and we were pleasantly surprised. We then did a brief analysis of our projected savings (yes, we are geeks. FI even suggested we a graph, but I vetoed this idea :P) by the time of the wedding and I’m proud to say that we are right on target.
What kind of options do you have as far as saving money for the wedding? Well it all depends on how much time you have from now until your wedding and also your current financial institution. Some will not allow you to open a Savings, or CD without an active Checking.
I’m so happy that as of last night I’ve got my Venue, Dress (the white wedding one), Photographer, DJ/MC, and Videographer checked off and secured!
Venue: Ocean Jewels
Dress: Bridal Reflections
Photographer: Something in Blue
DJ/MC: Sky Blue Entertainment
Videographer:Serendipity Filmworks
I feel like a big load has been taken off my back. I still need to look for an event decorator and a florist, and my invites and studio outdoor/indoor pictures will be taken while I’m in Thailand in April.
I’m so excited. I feel like every vendor I’ve secured and checked off my list is a major milestone for me.
Work has finally calmed down for me back to wedding planning. My next item on the list is finding a videographer. I’ve been debating for a while now whether or not to hire a videographer. At first I was leaning towards no, but after talking to many brides, I’ve opted to look for one. Not so much because all of the ones I spoke to had a videographer, but all of them said that they felt that everything happened so quickly on their wedding day. I wouldn’t want to miss a moment of my wedding, and I’m sure I will miss lots of things that are going on including smiles, laughs, and tears from friends and family. If I have a video, I can sit back, watch, reminisce, as well as see things for the first time that I missed during my wedding day.
So I’ve been vigorously looking through The Knot for some vidographers in my area. And of course one that will not cost me an arm an a leg since we are on such a tight budget. How the video looks is important to me too. I guess I’m kinda a snot when it comes to that - if it looks like something I could do myself, I’m not even going to consider it. The last thing I want is my wedding video to look like is a reject from America’s Funniest Home Videos. ![]()
Hubby and I have been officially married for one month.
Wherever we go the hot question seems to be “So how does married life feel?” And our answer as always is that nothing has changed. We feel the same as we did 1 month ago, 2 months ago, 3 months ago… you get the idea.
Most people’s reaction to this is a little bit of disappointment I suppose. I guess they are expecting some exciting and wonderful response. I actually think that it’s wonderful that everything is the same. We are the best of friends, we share and tell one another everything, we do just about everything together, we’ve had our share of rough patches (what relationship doesn’t) and we know that together we can weather just about any storm. The last thing I’d ever want is our extraordinary relationship to be different than what it already is. We are still as much in love as we were 6.5 years ago. Heck I hope things will never change!
Perhaps it might have been different if we had just moved in together. No, that wouldn’t be it either. When we moved in together earlier this year, everything was just as I expected it to be. Maybe it’s due to the fact that we were always straight forward with one another from the start. What you see is what you get. (And I must say I think he’s getting the better end of the deal.. har har har!!~ :P)
