Mirrors

August 16th, 2006 @ 11:18 am by Mrs. Poppy

I know that a lot of ladies are looking for cheap round mirrors for their reception tables. I found this great site that has really affordable mirrors that don’t look bad at all!

Hope this helped the girls out there looking for mirrors!

What a weekend!

August 15th, 2006 @ 10:46 am by Mrs. Poppy

This weekend has been a really interesting, loving and very funny one. We went up to Boston since we have a friend up there who can get us a discount on wedding dresses.

I haven’t really told anyone on weddingbee except Miss Violet that I really had a different dress that I wanted (which actually happens to be her dress). But things changed and I convinced myself that I wanted a white dress.

I went with my fiance, our groomsman, and my friend with the discount to David’s Bridal. My friend kept telling me to try on the dress I first sent her months ago. Finally I gave in and told her that I would just try it on.

When I came out with it on, everyone was stunned, jaws dropped… and when I looked in the mirror - I remembered why I loved that dress oh so much. Then my friend gave me a card that said: “This is your wedding present from all of us… If anyone deserves the dress of their dreams, it’s you.”

Tears came flowing from my face as I read the card with my friends saying that they were so happy for me and wanted to get me something nice. They all surprised me so much and even caught me on camera! I knew that my friends loved me but I didn’t know how much. shy2.gif

But my fiance had planned for months on surprising me also. He wanted to buy that exact dress for me in Boston!!!

My mom told me that very morning that I should get that dress, and I kept telling her it was ok. She told me that after the discount with it being tax free, it was really reasonable for a dress of that kind of beauty. She even gave me money to pay for that dress!!

I’m so lucky to have so many people in my life who love me so much to even want to buy my wedding dress for me. My mom, my fiance and six friends who knew how much I loved that dress wanted to buy it for me themselves.

I don’t know what I did to deserve to be blessed this much. But I can say that I still get teary eyed writing this right now.

In the end my mother won the dress buying. But I look at it as fate nudging me to buy this dress in the first place. I had planned to have this dress from the very start and changed my mind only a couple weeks ago. There was just no way this dress was getting away from me with eight people trying to get it for me instead!

If you were in Boston and saw some crazy Korean girl crying in Starbucks, Best Buy, Trader Joe’s, Finale and wherever else. I’m sorry. I kept thinking about all of them and I kept crying because I was so happy.

The dress is ordered and I will have it in December. pleased3.gif I can’t believe it… I have the dress now! I’ve missed all of you while I was gone. Sorry I don’t have pictures, I was crying too much to find the on button. smiley3.gif

Pew Decor and You

August 10th, 2006 @ 5:01 pm by Mrs. Poppy

Please forgive me, since this was the only colour tissue paper that I had. Both the tissue coloured vases and the pompoms were made via Martha Stewart. I saw a lot of these made not only by weddingbee writers but readers as well!

Pew Decor and You : wedding decor diy flowers new york Tissue tissue.jpg

I decided that I would make giant pompoms, attach a ribbon and hang them around our pews. It’s not only cheap but they are so beautiful… in the right colour combination of course! I will have a lavender - pink - celadon/peridot combo. Just gotta find nice tissue paper eventually. But I can deal with finding a store later. Another thing I really liked about these are that they are so easy to transport. Leave it folded like a fan (accordian style) and fluff it out when you get to the church/chapel! I’ll have our wedding party do that for us when we get there.

I can’t stress enough how much weddingbee has made me happy everyday. I love the fact that everyone of yous (readers and writers) are so supportive! Thank you gals for making me smile with each and every one of your comments and stories. I truly love you all! shy1.gif

Sleepover/Bonding

August 10th, 2006 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Poppy

There’s nothing better than having your girlfriends over for a wedding movie marathon. When I have all my girls in one area code, I like to have sleepovers!

Last year I had a huge sleepover: “Girls night IN.” I made Korean Sushi (kimbap), carrot cake muffins, chocolate dipped strawberries (yes I did it myself!) and I had each girl bring something (chips, drinks, wine, dvds). One of them even brought over a truth or dare game. I had knitting/crocheting books (the girls are all into it so they brought their own projects as well), and a variety of facials from Missha ready.

Most of the girls aren’t close as a whole but close with one or two people in the group. This gave us bonding time and we ended up talking all night long - not only did we have a great time, but none of us slept! We are all early nighters so it’s a big deal that we didn’t sleep. The morning after I made everyone apple french toast, and then we knitted some more while gossiping… I mean, talking! After all the girls left I couldn’t help but to smile.

I want to do this sort of thing for my bachelorette party when my bridesmaids are in New York before the wedding - a huge sleepover where my girls can get to know each other and maybe watch some of my favorite wedding movies like My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Wedding Planner, The Wedding Singer (”Do you really want to hurt me??”), The Father of the Bride, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and of course: Saved by the Bell - Las Vegas Wedding! (I always knew Zach and Kelly were going to get married!)

What are some of your favourite “wedding” movies? And do you think I’m too old to have a sleepover as my bachelorette party?

Ceremony Music

August 8th, 2006 @ 3:03 pm by Mrs. Poppy

My most favourite part of the wedding is not: dress shopping, flower hunting, favour shopping… it’s the ceremony music!

I could not wait to figure out what we will have at our wedding. First I wanted to decide on the instrument(s) because I’ve played in a lot of weddings (cello in a quartet), and I knew I wanted something a little different. I finally decided that we would have just one instrument: the piano.

I asked one of my bridesmaids (Veronica) to play the piano during the ceremony. She agreed and said it was such an honour. She is by far one of the best pianists I have ever laid my classical ears on.

I finally came up with a theme: French music. I love the colours and the feel of French music, so our wedding will be filled with music by Debussy. If you want to hear what I’ll be walking down the aisle to, click here and listen to Claire de Lune. Yes, I’m playing it :) but I’m sure Veronica will play it much better than me!

And at the end when they say: “You may kiss the bride”; I will have Till There Was You playing on the piano while we walk out! (Which will be our first dance during the reception.)

Ceremony Music : wedding ceremony music new york S47945760 s47945760.jpg

My mother is so excited about my music selection. She was telling me that since I was really little, music has always been a part of me. If I wasn’t singing or sitting at the piano, playing cello… I would be sad. She said that this is my time to really let my soul out with the music I pick for the wedding.

I love my mom. She’s so right.

What have you girls decided on with your ceremony music? Will it be traditional or will you do something completely different?

Bridesmaids Gifts!

August 7th, 2006 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Poppy

Good afternoon everyone!

I’m slowly putting together gifts for my bridesmaids. (All six beautiful ladies!) Since they read this site I can’t say EXACTLY what I got, but I will say that I’m thinking about sticking everything I bought them in this bag:

Bridesmaids Gifts! : wedding bridesmaid gift new york Bag bag.jpg

I actually made that bag for another friend last year… I knat (knitted?) that bag out of 100% peruvian wool and then felted it afterwards to make it sturdy. Maybe I’ll make it in different color combinations for the girls. Plus I think it would be nice for them to have a nice sized purse for the wedding!

Here’s the one I made for myself that I carry around almost everyday.

Bridesmaids Gifts! : wedding bridesmaid gift new york Bag2 bag2.jpg

I call it my peanut butter & jelly - hello kitty bag! As far as gifts for my girls, I think I have it all figured out already. Plus making six bags will probably take some time but I think it’s worth it.

Do you girls like the bags??

The Dress

August 6th, 2006 @ 8:22 pm by Mrs. Poppy

After all your wonderful votes on which dress I should pick…

I came to a decision!

The Dress : wedding new york wedding dress Dress1 dress1.jpg

The Dress : wedding new york wedding dress Dress2 dress2.jpg

I’ll be going to Boston this coming weekend to get it. Why not in New York City you ask? First, my friend works for the company at corporate; second, tax-free means huge savings!

Another reason why I picked this dress is that it fits like a glove, needs no alterations and it’s not as heavy as the other dress. Although I loved both, I got to admit this one fits perfectly!

A lot of people said it’s too simple. But the thing is, I’m a pretty laid back girl, not really into the fashion scene even though my fiance works in it. I just like knitting, playing the piano and going to sing karaoke. I’ll dress this up on the wedding day with some dangling earrings and a great veil… sparkle everywhere. ^___^

I just wanted to thank all 403 of you for voting! ;)

He Fancied Me…

August 4th, 2006 @ 4:00 pm by Mrs. Poppy

Hello, Miss Poppy here. Top of the mornin’ to yous.

I thought that it was great that Miss Violet shared her proposal story so I thought I’d share about Mr. Poppy & I as well.

I remember when we first started dating Mr Poppy said to me, “I fancy you.” I think my expression was…wtf.gif Then I think I said… “Hmm, thank you?” I realized what it meant wayyyyy later. Hehe.

Now onto the proposal: We had a talk that we shouldn’t eat out so much and save some money and I agreed 100%. Then a couple days later Mr. Poppy suggests that we go out to eat just for fun. I give him a HUGEEEEE lecture about how he told me that we should save our money and that we should start saving more… blah blah blah. So he convinced me finally to meet him outside his work.

I get there and he suggests we take a cab. TAKE A CAB??? WE ARE IN NEW YORK CITY FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Not to mention we were about two blocks from the train. The whole cab ride I’m asking him WHY OH WHY are we taking a cab!!!

Then we get to the restaurant. MY LAWD they have cloth tablecloths and cloth napkins!!!! I’m thinking, what in the world is going on?? (um… I’m normally not this cheap hehe but keep in mind I was wearing jeans and sneakers and a huge puffy jacket)

We eat… it was lovely and then out of nowhere he tells me that some guy was giving out free t-shirts on the street and picked me up one cuz it’s pink. I unfold it and tell him, “Did you know that someone put marker all over this?”

Then… BAMMMMMMMMMMMMM (his knee hitting the floor really hard). He was on the floor before I had a chance to read it!!!!

*poppy looking at the floor*
“OH NO!!! What did you drop????????”

He dropped nothing, he was on one knee with a beautiful diamond ring and he asked me, “Would you do me the honour of being my wife?” And I’m still wondering what he dropped…. it didn’t hit me…. until I read what the shirt said:

He Fancied Me... : wedding new york proposal Tshirt tshirt.jpg

I hate crying in public so… I held my breath. Then after what seemed like hours, he says:

“Uhhhh babeeee??? So….. are you going to answer???????”

“OH MY GOODNESS!!!! YESSSSSSSSS!”

Then of course I’m balling.

He even had a surprise engagement party afterwards for us. The greatest part was he wanted to take a cab and I made us walk there! We get there and everyone’s late… one by one they walk in.

“HEYYY what are YOU doing here??? Guess what? I’m engaged!”
“OHHHHH that’s why we’re here!”

Lol. Perfecto. I couldn’t have asked for a better engagement.

Save the date!

August 4th, 2006 @ 8:34 am by Mrs. Poppy

We already sent out our save the date cards so I figure it’s safe to post!

Save the date! : wedding new york save the dates Postcard postcard.jpg

  • Wedding Cake Stamp from Michaels ($3-4 on sale)
  • Gold Ink pad from Michaels ($2 on sale)
  • New York City postcard… 5 cents each
  • uni-ball waterproof/fade proof pen in black

When we explored the streets of NYC for postcards we finally found a place that sold them for a nickel each. When we went to the cashier to check out he said…

“How many?”
“Um…….. 200 do you want to count?”
“No.”

Haha.

Mr. Poppy stamped the postcards and I wrote them out. It took forever to handwrite each postcard but it was well worth it! We didn’t want anyone to forget the date so we said to keep the postcard as a raffle ticket at the wedding! We’re hoping that people will put it on the fridge so they’ll always remember….

We already got so many emails from guests saying they will MAKE SURE they bring the postcard cuz they want the gift!!! shy.gif I would post what the gift is - but a lot of my guests read this site… so…. I guess everyone will have to wait till after the wedding. winky2.gif

Do you see the red heart? Guess what I used to colour it? Marker? Red pen? Crayon?

Flowers

August 3rd, 2006 @ 11:47 am by Mrs. Poppy

First of all: I want to say that I’m soooooo happy to be part of weddingbee!!! ^^

I’ve been debating whether to hire a florist or hiring… myself as the florist for the longest time. Mr. Poppy and I are on a super tight budget since we’re buying our home and having a wedding in the same year, so it’s a bit of a pinch on the wallet.

After doing hours and hours of research I found many wonderful wholesale flower sites. Many of which sell roses. Then I was thinking - if we get roses, we’ll have to de-thorn them, rip the leaves off and it just seemed like too much work right before the wedding.

I kept going back and forth between florists and wholesale sites. After meeting with a couple florists I knew we couldn’t afford it. After all - I have six, yes six, bridesmaids!

I finally decided that I would use pink mini cally lilies. Nothing to dethorn and cut my fingers (I’m a pianist, if I did - my teacher would literally…. kill me shocked.gif), no leaves to rip off… it’s a beautiful flower by itself and the color of pink goes well with my wedding theme.

According to this site the calla lily is associated with elegance and charm. This flower goes PERFECTLY with my ceremony music which is all french piano music.

I contacted the wholesaler to ask if I could buy a sample of their calla lilies. I’m going to have a practice session with one of my bridesmaids and see how easy/difficult it will be. But really - I’m planning a really simple ribbon around the flowers and that’s it!

Once I get a hold of these flowers - I’ll be sure to post pictures of the process!

What flowers are you ladies using for your bouquet?
