When I asked my cousin if she was going give out favors during the rehearsal dinner/tea ceremony, she looked at me and was like, “OMG, I need to give out favors for that too?!” Of course, I was like, “You don’t have to, but something would be nice!” She thought it was too much trouble but I came up with something and assured her it would be easy breezy.
I’m a big fan of these round tea bags and what better shape is there for a wedding? Like wedding rings, a circle is perfectly symmetrical and representative of the never-ending continuation of true love. In Chinese, a circle is also a symbol of harmony and the closeness of family.

My cousin decided she wanted a candy buffet and we set out on a hunt for the perfect apothecary jars. When her (now) husband caught wind of our project he protested with strange phobias of dirty hands in the candy jars.
They were able to come to a compromise when she hit upon some mini candy jars at Michaels. And to boot, their single serving size made them perfect to use as escort cards.

Here are some more details for those of you who are also thinking about going the DIY route for making your veil.
Cutting the tulle was not hard since the width was already the standard size. For the length, I used my cousin’s height (with heels on) and added the distance she wanted her train to trail. I then folded the tulle in half and rounded off the train.

My cousin has a huge-ass Doberman named Cody. He’s super friendly and once licked my eyeball in an attempt to body hug me. Homeboy thinks he’s a two-pound chihuahua. My cousin and her husband love him to death but could not find a way for him to participate in their wedding festivities without potential bodily and monetary consequences. So I suggested using photos of him for their table numbers and they loved the idea.
It was a pretty simple project of turning the photos black and white, and adding white thought bubbles with numbers on them. I tried to keep each picture tightly cropped around Cody so that they were somewhat consistent, and formatted the pictures to fit the size of the frames the venue provided for the table numbers.
I’m not sure why some of them looked washed out below but here is Cody in all his glory!

Remember the veil my Dad made me? Sigh, it meant the world to me.
When it came time for my cousin to shop for her veil, I showed her this lace edged delight that inspired Mrs. Bellpepper’s mother to make her veil. At $800, this veil is priced to leave you homeless.

Inspired by the prowess of Mrs. Bellpepper’s mother and of my own poppa’s, I offered (and begged) to make a similar veil for my cousin.

I’ve said before that making my wedding invitations nearly killed me. The pain was truly awful. So awful it felt good. So good that when it finally came time to make invitations for my cousin’s bridal shower, I couldn’t wait to subject myself to the pain again. Thankfully this time, I only needed to make 20 (as opposed to the 120 multi-piece invitations I made for my wedding).
The theme of the shower is pretty simple: Pink and Fun.

This little spider dusted off the cobwebs and stretched all eight of her legs to craft for Weddingbee’s Valentine’s Day Card swap. I spent a few days lamenting my lack of a Gocco until I realized, heck - I can just use my printer, you know, old school style. I really wanted to do something different but not different enough to require supplies other than what I had left over from the wedding. I mean, let’s be real, I’m way lazier than I am crafty.
After a few mockups, I came up with customized matchbook notepads:
I’ve never had so much fun in my whole life. Too many photos to load and we are only on day 2. Went on all the water slides and rides today and I’ve lost my voice from screaming down all the vertical drops. I’ll leave you with our view from the balcony.

Thanks to our wonderful travel agent, we have rebooked our anniversary trip to the Bahamas for two weeks from now. Because we wanted to activate the travel insurance we bought, we did not try to get my passport renewed in order to leave a day or two later. Also, we will both be participating in a bike tour for Multiple Sclerosis this Sunday and wanted to be back in town by Friday. In the end, our agent was able to reschedule our trip for the same rate and our new plane tickets are actually cheaper than our original tickets (Jet Blue charges a $35 cancellation fee per ticket and then gives you credit for the remaining balance).
It is now officially our one year wedding anniversary. We were supposed to be on a plane headed towards the Bahamas today to celebrate a wonderful first year. Sadly, we have canceled our trip.
I’ve been planning this trip for weeks and even took Thursday and Friday off to run last minute errands in preparation for our vacation. This morning I made a tediously detailed checklist and happily checked each item off as we packed our suitcases. Mr. Spider joked that I should take pictures of my checklist and our perfectly packed suitcases so I could blog about how insane I am. As we were going over the last few items, he opened my passport to laugh at my picture and then turned to me and said “uh oh.” Uh oh. Turns out my passport expired three months ago.
We stopped by Target yesterday to pick up some travel size goodies for our upcoming trip and I couldn’t resist buying some faux flowers and fruit vase fillers.
Much to the chagrin of my readers, I blogged about my honeymoon to The Palms in Turks & Caicos (here and here) while on my honeymoon last year. Mr. Spider and I had a great time relaxing and doing almost nothing but enjoy each other’s company. Since our anniversary trip is coming up, I ventured into my archive photos for a trip down memory lane.
Our one year anniversary is creeping up so I’ve spent the last few weeks researching places to celebrate our year old nuptials. Planning our honeymoon to Turks & Caicos nearly killed me and planning our honeymoon encore was only slightly less daunting due to three essential factors: 1) our love of beaches; 2) the static threat of hurricanes in October; and 3) $$$. In the end, I basically ran out of time and picked what I hope will be a fun place to spend a week.

When I saw Katherine Heigl wearing a white mermaid gown on the red carpet at the recent Emmys, I thought - hello, wedding gown! Incidentally, the babe is planning her own nuptials so maybe she does have wedding on the brain. Her dress costs something like $1 million dollars and your left pinky but the crafty folks at eDressMe say this gown can be your friend for just $475.

Mr. Spider and I spent Labor Day wandering around Union Square. We stopped by Fishs Eddy, one of my favorite shops, in search of a butter knife. We were delighted to see their new (to us) New York City collections. We ran out of time during our wedding planning and had to forego gift bags for our out-of-town guests but if I could turn back time, I would have definitely selected a few of the items below as gifts.
