The Donkeys Are in the Mile High City

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) kicked off here in the Mile High City last night (that reminds me, I need to register to vote in Colorado)!
Both Mr. Cookie and myself work in Downtown Denver, and besides the intense security and minor traffic congestion, life is pretty much normal. Although, I am not going to lie. Mr. Cookie and I went to a Rockies game over the weekend and it was a little eerie to see the multitude of police with semi-automatics and guard dogs walking around downtown.

After a quick change into more casual clothing, Mark and Michele of IN Photography took some shots of us in the Red Rocks amphitheater, the best place for concerts ever!
In these photos it looks like no one is there, but in reality there was an exercise class just off to our left and a ton of people working out all around the amphitheater. Even this cookie got a bit of a glute workout walking up and down the seats, especially in those heels!

The Cookies’ Engagement Photos, Scene 1, Take 2

Last Tuesday, we met with our dynamic duo of photographers, Mark and Michele of IN Photography, to redo our engagement photos. Boy, the contrast between this e-shoot and our last one was night and day! (I really wish I could show you the other e-photos so you can see the difference, but alas, due to copyright issues I can’t!) Our last shoot was very posed and stiff and didn’t captured the essence of Red Rocks, this amazing park/amphitheater outside of Denver, at all. I am so glad we switched photographers because our shoot with Mark and Michele was twenty times more fun, candid, and they totally nailed the beauty of Red Rocks.
Out of over 85 shots, we are having a really hard time narrowing down our favorites — we love them all. Here are some of our favorite photos in our formal attire:

Armed with Tape

When I was a Stage Manager, I had a whole arsenal of tape. Yes, you heard that right, tape! It got me out of a pickle more time than I can count, from: tapping down loose cords with gaffer’s tape so no one would trip, quick changing zipper malfunctions leading to gaff taping an actress’s costume together and pushing her onstage, and toupee taping faux mustaches and beards. The wonders of tape for theatrical purposed astounded me! And I think, to be quite honest, tape can be a bride-to-be’s best friend. I am compiling my bridal emergency kit, and here are two tapes I’ve added to my bridal arsenal.

As we approach the “I Dos,” this last month is going to be a blitz of DIY projects! Escort cards, programs, bridesmaids gifts and our aisle runner, oh my! Yes, this cookie procrastinated a wee bit (two jobs really puts a kink in DIY time), but armed with my trusty Gocco and Photoshop I will accomplish my DIY mission on time! Last night, I completed Project Photos and Memories.

Where Are All the Kiddos?

Lately, there has been quite a discussion about children at weddings. Here’s my two cents: Whether to have an adult only gathering or one filled with children, I think is a very personal decision for each couple. Me, I am riding the fence. Although, I’ve been to more than one wedding where a screaming baby disrupted the ceremony, I’m bummed because we are not having a flower girl, ring bearer, or any children attending our wedding, at all.

Something to Hold

I feel so blessed that on our wedding day we will be surrounded with our friends and family, but unfortunately minus my Grandma Alice. I’ve known that she would not be attending our wedding for some time. Almost five years ago, she was diagnosed with liver cancer. And being the feisty Norwegian woman that she is, has survived not one but two tumors in her liver, but unfortunately the tumor has spread to her lungs. Making the trek from Montana to Colorado would be brutal for her, so I’d rather she be at the wedding in spirit than in pain.

A Letter to My Dear Aunt Flo

Dearest Auntie Flo,
I am sorry, but you are not invited to our wedding. I know how much we both enjoy our monthly visits together—even though you have been giving me horrible bloating and cramps lately. Mr. Cookie and I have a love/hate relationship with you! Every time you come to visit, Mr. Cookie has to rub my belly and says I become very irritable. But we both like that your visit indicates we will not be welcoming newly baked cookies to the family, just yet!
Recently, it seems like you keep pushing back your monthly visit. Your September visit is nudging closer and closer to our wedding date. I apologize, but during our wedding I just cannot accommodate your demands. Having my bridesmaid lift up my wedding dress, while I try to change a tampon, is just not an experience that I want to share with them. I also want my hormones at a steady level; I am already going to be emotional as is! In addition, Mr. Cookie and I would also like to get to know one another, in the biblical sense, if you know what I mean. 
We just can’t do “it” with you coming between us.

Enough with the Cheese!

With time starting to crunch, I have decided, no, am being forced into delegating wedding tasks. One such delegation was asking my MOH to find non-cheesy ceremony readings.
She is just beginning her Phd work in English this fall, so I thought who better to complete said task than her. But seriously, the non-cheese part of the ceremony reading quest was compulsory! Even though I heart Shakespeare’s Sonnet 130, “Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments…” it didn’t pass the cheese test!
Any Jane Austin fans? Remember when Willoughby reads Sonnet 130 to Marianne in “Sense and Sensibility?” Romantic, but totally cheesy!
