I have the jitters. No, it’s not from my Tall Pumpkin Spiced Latte that I have been nursing all morning (although, that might be partly to blame). I’m a ball of nerves that won’t seem to go away.
It all started about a month ago when we started having some vendor debacles — I’ll fill you in on the details after the wedding. But once all those issues got resolved, the jitters didn’t seem to go away. I’m not nervous about marrying Mr. Cookie, and to be honest Mr. Cookie and I are already married in each other’s hearts. I’m not nervous about about the day going according to plan, because it probably won’t. I’m not nervous about the weather, although I did set my Google Desktop Weather Widget location to Breckenridge. I am a little nervous about people getting lost trying to find the location, but even then Lil’ Bro Cookie is making signs to direct people up to Ten Mile Station — it’s not enough to warrant the jitters.
As Mr. Cookie and I were getting our marriage licence yesterday, I finally realized what the jitters were — the mounting anticipation of a momentous life event. It’s the time in between serenity and the endorphin rush. Read more…

Mama Cookie has not been too insistent on many of the wedding details, except the need for an aisle runner. At first I wasn’t too keen on the idea, after all we are getting married outdoors. But after Mama Cookie showed me this fabulous blue linen she found at Joann’s on sale for $2 for the aisle runner, I was sold. Although Mama Cookie made the aisle runner, I wanted to add a little extra something to it, so I decided to add a “C” — as C is for the Cookies ;). Read more…

My aunts on my father’s side have this gift giving tradition that involves a yellow purse. In the 1970’s, one of my aunts received this ugly yellow purse as a Christmas present from her aunt. For the last thirty years, this purse has been re-gifted to each of one my aunts. Everyone waits in anticipation around the holidays to see who gets that ugly yellow purse. Now that all of the grandchildren in my family are in their 20s and 30s, the purse is being re-gifted to the next generation, and guess who got the yellow purse last Christmas?
When it came to buying gifts for my bridesmaids, I hated the thought of giving them a “yellow purse”—a gift that they would think was ugly. I was especially fearful when it came to jewelry, because each of my bridesmaids’ tastes are so different. I wanted to get each of them a piece of jewelry to wear for the wedding, but I also wanted that jewelry to be something that they would wear again. So, I searched Etsy for some jewelry makers that I liked, and sent links to each store to all of my bridesmaids. I then asked my bridesmaids to send me links to pieces that they really liked. Here are the pieces that they each picked out for themselves:

As wedding presents seem to be arriving on our doorstep lately, I thought it was time to whip out my Gocco again and get an early start on Thank Yous. And while I was at it, I also printed our escort cards.
Way back when I printed our invitations, I printed the bird and branches which I got from istock on both the cards and envelopes in order to save screens. I also burned the “Merci Beaucoup” and “Table” lettering, but wanted to wait until the final guest count came to get an accurate print number. I used the the RISO ink blocking material to separate the lettering from the invite design, and stored the screen in a Ziploc bag to save for later. Read more…

On Tuesday I had my second and last fitting with Mahin at Anna Bè. Although, the alterations are perfect—nothing more to be done than press the wrinkles out—I got a little lump in my throat. The women at Anna Bè felt like my girlfriends and their service was top notch. After I pick up my dress, there will be no more wandering in to say hi, no more trunk shows, and no more perusing their amazing selection of dresses before a fitting. This makes me a little sad. For brides in the Denver metro area, I can’t recommend Anna Bè more highly!

You voted. We listened. With 86% of the vote, tie it is for Mr. Cookie!
On Monday, I took the day off from work to run wedding errands. On my list to do was finding ties. I had a small budget for the purchase - between $10-$20 per tie. I went to Men’s Wearhouse, a local outlet mall, then finally Nordstrom Rack, where I hit the mother load!
Since Mr. Cookie is wearing a silver vest, he wanted a silver tie to match. Because he was at work, I found two options from which he can choose on the day. Each tie cost $12.95, not bad! Read more…

Call me a feminist or un-traditional, but I am not comfortable with the traditional giving away of the bride. I think it is an incredibly sweet, touching moment in the ceremony when the father gives away the bride, but it’s just not me. We did, however, want some kind of a symbolic gesture.

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) kicked off here in the Mile High City last night (that reminds me, I need to register to vote in Colorado)!
Both Mr. Cookie and myself work in Downtown Denver, and besides the intense security and minor traffic congestion, life is pretty much normal. Although, I am not going to lie. Mr. Cookie and I went to a Rockies game over the weekend and it was a little eerie to see the multitude of police with semi-automatics and guard dogs walking around downtown.

After a quick change into more casual clothing, Mark and Michele of IN Photography took some shots of us in the Red Rocks amphitheater, the best place for concerts ever!
In these photos it looks like no one is there, but in reality there was an exercise class just off to our left and a ton of people working out all around the amphitheater. Even this cookie got a bit of a glute workout walking up and down the seats, especially in those heels! Read more…

Last Tuesday, we met with our dynamic duo of photographers, Mark and Michele of IN Photography, to redo our engagement photos. Boy, the contrast between this e-shoot and our last one was night and day! (I really wish I could show you the other e-photos so you can see the difference, but alas, due to copyright issues I can’t!) Our last shoot was very posed and stiff and didn’t captured the essence of Red Rocks, this amazing park/amphitheater outside of Denver, at all. I am so glad we switched photographers because our shoot with Mark and Michele was twenty times more fun, candid, and they totally nailed the beauty of Red Rocks.
Out of over 85 shots, we are having a really hard time narrowing down our favorites — we love them all. Here are some of our favorite photos in our formal attire: Read more…

When I was a Stage Manager, I had a whole arsenal of tape. Yes, you heard that right, tape! It got me out of a pickle more time than I can count, from: tapping down loose cords with gaffer’s tape so no one would trip, quick changing zipper malfunctions leading to gaff taping an actress’s costume together and pushing her onstage, and toupee taping faux mustaches and beards. The wonders of tape for theatrical purposed astounded me! And I think, to be quite honest, tape can be a bride-to-be’s best friend. I am compiling my bridal emergency kit, and here are two tapes I’ve added to my bridal arsenal.

As we approach the “I Dos,” this last month is going to be a blitz of DIY projects! Escort cards, programs, bridesmaids gifts and our aisle runner, oh my! Yes, this cookie procrastinated a wee bit (two jobs really puts a kink in DIY time), but armed with my trusty Gocco and Photoshop I will accomplish my DIY mission on time! Last night, I completed Project Photos and Memories. Read more…

Lately, there has been quite a discussion about children at weddings. Here’s my two cents: Whether to have an adult only gathering or one filled with children, I think is a very personal decision for each couple. Me, I am riding the fence. Although, I’ve been to more than one wedding where a screaming baby disrupted the ceremony, I’m bummed because we are not having a flower girl, ring bearer, or any children attending our wedding, at all.

I feel so blessed that on our wedding day we will be surrounded with our friends and family, but unfortunately minus my Grandma Alice. I’ve known that she would not be attending our wedding for some time. Almost five years ago, she was diagnosed with liver cancer. And being the feisty Norwegian woman that she is, has survived not one but two tumors in her liver, but unfortunately the tumor has spread to her lungs. Making the trek from Montana to Colorado would be brutal for her, so I’d rather she be at the wedding in spirit than in pain. Read more…
