About Mrs. Cookie

Hello, Gorgeous!

July 21st, 2008 @ 2:53 pm by Mrs. Cookie

She’s here! After months of patiently and not so patiently waiting, I got the call!“Hello, this is Miss Cookie.”

“Hi Miss Cookie, this is Jordan with Anna Bè. I am excited to tell you that your dress has arrived.”

“Huzzah! Can I come over and say, ‘Hello?’”

“Absolutely!”

And that’s just what I did. Although, my dress will be held in the custody of my fabulous bridal salon, Anna Bè, until my fittings are complete, I couldn’t have my dress in the vicinity without at least saying hello. So, I braved the horrors of rush hour traffic –FYI: I drive like a grandma – to see her.

And there she was! Just as I remembered. Ivory. Biased-cut. Mermaid skirt. It was one of those, “OMG, I am getting married!” moments! Our meeting was brief – just a quick inspection to make sure nothing had been damaged during shipping, and I also set a fitting schedule. But I couldn’t leave the salon empty handed. My veils were also in!

Withstanding a Flood of Tears

I am a crier. When I see a sad movie I cry, when Mr. Cookie does something special for me I cry, when I get stressed I cry. I know that on our wedding day, the tears are going to be pouring. To avoid the Britney Spear’s “Lucky” cryface, I need make-up that will withstand a flood of tears! Read more…

One is Silver, the Other Gold

July 16th, 2008 @ 5:09 pm by Mrs. Cookie

Easy. Painless. And didn’t burn a hole in our pockets. I was shocked that only an hour after we walked into Shane Co., we were purchasing our wedding rings. CRAZY!

Yesterday, Mr. Cookie and I decided to go look at wedding rings — just look! Since, Mr. Cookie had bought my e-ring at Shane Co., we thought we might as well go back to look at wedding bands. Again, we had no intention of buying because we were going to shop around for the best deal; however, we probably would have spent more in gas trying to find a better value.

First up, Mr. Cookie’s. He is a gold kinda guy, but I’m a silver kinda girl; so, he decided that a two-tone ring would be best. Mr. Cookie also wanted a little bit of etching — something that was very elegant but not gaudy. He tried on several different rings, bandwidths, and metals before landing on this baby — a two-tone gold and white gold ring. When he said to me, “This is my ring,” I knew we had to buy it. Sorry, you can’t really see the etching in the photo, but a good photographer I am not!

Knock on Wood

July 15th, 2008 @ 6:38 pm by Mrs. Cookie

I’m weather stalking Breckenridge! I know it seems a little soon to start the weather stalking process, but I am!

Even though Colorado’s climate is dry-as-a-bone, it threatens to storm or rain everyday on cue around 4:00! I kid you not! Breckenridge boasts 300 day of sunshine, but afternoon thunderstorms are common. We chose the location because of the picturesque view of the Ten Mile Range, and although I have been assured by the venue that only two ceremonies last year had to go into Plan B action, it’s still a little concerning. Especially when, at a recent party that Mr. Cookie and I attended, I met a bride whose September wedding was interrupted by SNOW! EEK!

Something Recycled

July 14th, 2008 @ 6:55 pm by Mrs. Cookie

I love the feel of candlelight! To me, it brings adjectives of elegance and romance to mind! I can just imagine Mr. Cookie and I dancing to “Songbird” by Eva Cassidy in the flickering light! *sighs*

My mom is a wedding coordinator for her church — meaning that depending on the couple she becomes a de-facto DOC. Apparently, the bride at the wedding she was coordinating over the weekend was giving way all the candles from her wedding way for FREE! My mom immediately called me to see if I wanted them to which I replied an enthusiastic, “YES!” Yesterday, she brought over these babies — 100 barely used candles.

And They Say Time Heals All Wounds

July 11th, 2008 @ 4:36 pm by Mrs. Cookie

timehealsallwounds.jpg

I have to give my parents credit. They made it 27 years before they got divorced; although, it wasn’t exactly an amicable break-up. Not only was there constant fighting for many years, but a week before I graduated high school my parents decided to have an all out, knock-out, drag-out custody battle in court over my younger brothers. It was a painful time, and being seventeen I wanted to get the hell out of dodge ASAP! So, I found a university 800 miles and moved as quickly as I could away…

A Groom’s Realization

July 10th, 2008 @ 12:49 pm by Mrs. Cookie

As we were going to bed last night:

Mr. Cookie: Did you give my Best Man the measurement requirements to fit his tux?

Miss Cookie: No, I thought that was your responsibility.

Mr. Cookie: It is but I just wanted to check if you gave it to his wife, after all, she is your bridesmaid.

Miss Cookie: No, I didn’t give it to her.

Mr. Cookie: Remind me to call him tomorrow.

Miss Cookie: Ok.

Mr. Cookie: Did I just talk about the wedding?

Miss Cookie: I think you just did?

Mr. Cookie: We must be getting close to our wedding.

Miss Cookie: Yes, we are dear. Now, go to sleep!

What makes your groom realize that the wedding is soon a reality?

You Can Do It, Gocco Can Help!

July 9th, 2008 @ 4:50 pm by Mrs. Cookie

I am one of those people that watch movies and then immediately turns to the DVD extras in order to reveal the movie magic. And after my post on Monday about our invites, I got a lot of questions about Gocco printing. Although there isn’t an exact science to the Gocco, and I am no means an expert, I thought I would share a little advice and some of the tricks I have up my sleeve.

The Agony and the Ecstasy

July 7th, 2008 @ 6:44 pm by Mrs. Cookie

It only took me two weeks, three tubes of brown ink, a few paper cuts, and over 1,500 presses but OUR INVITATIONS ARE DONE! Hallelujah! And as I dropped off the invites this morning in the mail, not only did I feel the relief of finishing our invites, but goosebumps crept over my body! It was a special moment between me, the invites, and the mailbox! Then I promptly rewarded myself with a Tall Iced Mocha from Starbucks – total coffee addict!

I’m really happy with the final product, even though it was a lot of work! Each piece is unique, because of the quality of the press, and a labor of love! I did however have help along the way…

Something Red

July 2nd, 2008 @ 6:31 pm by Mrs. Cookie

I am a slave to lip gloss. In the dryness that is Colorado, I perpetually carry around one tube of Burt’s Bees lip balm and one tube of my current favorite shade of lip gloss to fight against my curse of chapped lips. When I was thinking about what wedding accessories that I needed, a clutch to hold my lip gloss (and other accoutrements) was a big necessity.
