My dad is an old timer. His first car was a 57’ Chevy, and I remember growing-up and listening to the Beach Boys on vinyl. Being the spunky old fart that he is, he loves to retell his glory days playing college football over and over again. Transitioning into the modern age of technology is not my dad’s thing. He has a computer that he barely knows how to use and doesn’t own a cell phone. Although we’ve had our differences over the years, especially when my parents got divorced, he’s still my dad and I love him!
Now reaching his mid-sixties, my dad loves to dance! He knows the jitterbug like no on else and dances like an old pro. Needless to say, picking a song for our Father/Daughter Dance has been a challenge. It would seem more apropos to my dad’s personality to have an upbeat song to dance to, but being the only girl in the family, our wedding is very sentimental to him. We’ve narrowed it down to two songs, “Fathers and Daughters” by Paul Simon, and “One More For My Baby (And One For the Road)” by Frank Sinatra. Read more…

Since I am a very visual cookie, I did a floral inspiration board for my florist, to better understand the floral palette that I have envisioned for our wedding. (Sorry, my sources are a little incomplete because I didn’t write them down when I made this back in March). How did I decided on what flowers I wanted?

Weddings are expensive, and it seems like every time Mr. Cookie and I say “wedding,” the price seems to triple, if not quadruple. I think what is even worse is the nickel and diming - corking fees, cake cutting fees, food shortage surcharges, photography usage fees - it’s vendors trying to squeeze every last penny out of you! Mr. Cookie and I want to have a nice wedding, but we don’t want to auction off our first child to do so! But one bride did something similar!

Bees, thank for all your input about Mr. Cookie’s tux. After reading the comments Mr. Cookie decided that since he has never worn a tux, and doesn’t know when he will ever wear one again, he is going to rent a tux.

Since none of our families had seen our venue, we decided to take a little trek up into the mountain to Breckenridge on Saturday. Like I said in yesterday’s post, when Mr. Cookie and I toured the venue in November it was ski season – not only was the patio where we would get married buried under snow, but the dinning room was converted into a café for skiers. Now that all the snow had melted and ski session was over, we could get a better picture of what the location would look like on our wedding day. So, my FFIL, FMIL, FSIL, my mom, Mr. Cookie, and myself piled into our cars and drove up to Breckenridge to look at Ten Mile Station. The hour and half drive along I-70 is stunning! Read more…

This weekend was a big wedding extravaganza at the Cookie household. On Friday we picked out Mr. Cookie’s tux and on Saturday my FFIL, FMIL, FSIL, my mom, Mr. Cookie, and myself went up to Breckenridge to look at Ten Mile. When Mr. Cookie and I toured the venue in November it was ski season – not only was the patio where we would get married buried under snow, but the dinning room was converted into a café for skiers. Now that all the snow had melted and ski session was over, we could get a better picture of what the location would look like on our wedding day. Also, none of our families had seen the location, so we made a nice little morning/afternoon out of the trek up to Breck.

Since Mr. Cookie and I are getting married at an elevation of 10,234 feet, I feel it’s necessary to warn our guest about the possibility of altitude sickness. To be honest, I don’t think anybody will get sick, however it affects people differently (I am really more concerned about the affects of altitude on our older guests rather then the younger ones). And with all the debauchery, shenanigans, and inebriation that I know will ensue at the wedding, I thought we would give our guests a heads-up. Read more…

When I joined the hive, I was not only introduced to the wonders of Gocco but to the fabulous world of Etsy. Now, I have joined the Etsy bandwagon! I have an imaginary jewelry collection of Etsy pieces that I drool over, and would bankrupt me if I bought them all! Excuse me if you are an Etsy aficionado, but for those of you who don’t know, Etsy is a fabulous online community to buy and sell everything handmade and it is a fantastic place to purchase unique wedding accessories or gifts at affordable prices.
Mr. Cookie and I are starting our bridesmaids and groomsmen gift search. We both want to show our appreciation by presenting them with a nice, reasonably priced token of our affection. So, I turned to my good friend Etsy for ideas. I typed in “blue, wedding” in the search field, and below are just a handful of what I found. Although not all bridesmaids and groomsmen gifts, I thought I might share some of my favorite finds.

One reason Mr. Cookie and I chose our venue was the inclusiveness of the package –meaning chairs, tables, linens, dishware, food, beverage, and cake are all included in the price. This meant less time and stress running around finding a rental company, caterer, and baker. Another reason that we chose the venue was their pastry chef. When we signed our venue contract, Ned Archibald, Executive Pastry Chef and Chocolate Magician of the Keystone Resort, was the exclusive cake baker for Ten Mile. I didn’t mind having to exclusively go with Ned because his work is fantastic. Read more…

While scrounging around for some unmemorable item a few years ago in the basement of my father’s house, I came across my parents’ guest book from their wedding in the back of a hallway closet. The thick layer of dust that caked the cover confirmed my suspicion — the book had not seen the light of day in over thirty years. As I flipped through the pages and pages of names, I was surprised to recognize a majority of the names — many of whom were relatives or friends of my parents. Also, I found a list of the wedding presents my parents had received, along with my mother’s handwritten notes about thank you cards.
