Darn you Martha Stewart and your impeccable use of vintage stamps! (Sorry, Martha!) Ok, first off let me say that I love vintage stamps, and I love the look of them on wedding invitations; however, I am trying to prioritize our wedding splurges. Already our splurges have been on location, food, my dress, and hiring a string trio for the ceremony (which I haven’t posted about yet). But, I am always in the mood for hunting for a good deal! So, I did a little vintage stamp investigation to see if I could possibly add one more splurge item. Read more…

My apologizes to all vegetarians, but Mr. Cookie and I like to eat meat! We are a meat and potatoes kind of couple. There is nothing better for dinner than a good steak (medium rare) or a slab of pork spare ribs and all the fixings: corn dripping with butter, corn bread also dripping with butter, potato salad and baked beans. It’s a heart attack waiting to happen, but we love to eat it — once in awhile. Yummy! Read more…

Mr. Cookie and I love chocolate, especially truffles and hot chocolate! There have been so many chocolate related memories intertwined in our relationship: a romantic email about hot chocolate in the autumn, sipping homemade hot chocolate by a fire on a cold December night, making chocolate covered strawberries at Thanksgiving, handmaking truffles for Valentine’s Day, sipping the best hot chocolate in the world in Brugge, Belgium, and the list goes on and on…

There, I have admitted it! I am a coffee addict. I have one cup of coffee every morning — either a Tall Mocha (with whip) from Starbucks or just a plain old cup of jo. It’s my ONE guilty pleasure in life (ok, maybe I have several guilty pleasures).

Please be forewarned: this is a rant of an overworked Cookie!
I have two jobs. Yes, not one but two jobs. During the day, I sit behind my computer and either write grants or plan fundraising events for an affordable housing nonprofit, and then at night I moonlight part-time as a designer and painter for a children’s theatre. Both jobs are equally rewarding, because I feel like I am doing some good in this world, but both are equally tiring! I took on a second job to help pay-off student loans quicker, but with planning our wedding on top of two jobs, I feel like I am being pulled in a million directions.
Currently, I have two major projects at both of my jobs. I’m planning a fundraising event for my first job, and I’ve got a gigantic muraling project for the theatre. My time is being gobbled-up with an endless to-do list that keeps expanding instead of shrinking. My days and nights are consumed with work, and my weekends are consumed with either work or wedding errands. I feel my life spiralling out of balance with working 60 to 80 hours a week.

I have always had straight, short hair. When I was five, my mother cut my hair into the infamous Dorothy Hamill haircut. Although I had several different hair-dos –including really bad perms in the early 90s –the next fourteen years of my life I had nothing but straight, short hair.
In college, my short hair was fantastic. I would roll out of bed, grab a quick shower, blow dry my hair, toss a little product, and run out the door. No fuss, no mess. I loved it! To illustrate how short my hair was, below is a photo of me, circa 2005. Please note the differences and similarities to the Dorothy Hamill do.

Too often, the focus of wedding attire is solely on what the bride will wear and not the groom. Like the bride, I think the groom’s attire has equal weight in revealing the groom’s personality and setting the tone for the wedding. From a Hawaiian shirt and shorts at a beach wedding to a tux with a bowtie at a more formal wedding – anything is possible! Lately, Mr. Cookie and I have been discussing his wedding attire.

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry. I am a very simple person, and the only piece of jewelry I wear on a consistent basis is a simple metal bracelet with “Simplify” inscribed into the band – my personal motto. Needless to say, I wanted a very simple engagement ring.
When Mr. Cookie started to slyly ask questions about what I wanted for an engagement ring, I told him my dream ring was the Tiffany and Co. signature setting – a single round cut solitaire. Simple, elegant and completely me!

Three weeks after I sent the STD cards, Mr. Cookie and I received a card from my paternal grandmother. At first, I found this very odd because my birthday was coming up, and I had already gotten my birthday card from her. When I opened the envelope there was a wedding card with a check, and in the memo it said “Wedding Gift,” as well as, an open date on the check. At this time we were five months from the wedding so I thought, “Oh, no. She thought the STD card was the invitation!” I quickly called my father to investigate!
Time for a little background story: My grandmother is 89 years old, and being the feisty Norwegian woman that she is, has survived not one but two tumors in her liver, but unfortunately the tumor has spread to her lungs. Currently, she is undergoing radiation treatment and is doing pretty good. She says that she is going to try to make the wedding but with her health, the 12 hour drive from Montana to Colorado will just be too hard on her, and she doesn’t fly. I have known that she was not coming to the wedding for months, and considering the circumstances was really ok with her not coming. Read more…
