I decided to have some letterpress business cards printed up as a gift for Mrs. Penguin recently. We don’t really have official titles here at Weddingbee, so when I got to thinking what Mrs. Penguin’s title should be, I realized that she’s really been the Editor in chief since the beginning of this year. She’s been doing a fantastic job — she loves Weddingbee and it really shows!
Meanwhile I’ve been able to concentrate on growing traffic and building new features.
Mrs. Bird of Paradise recently started her own letterpress shop, so she pulled together these wonderfully clean designs for us. Mrs. Penguin wants you guys to decide on her business cards, so please let us know what you think!
Option A: The logo in “Weddingbee green” with Cathleya’s deets in silver. The hearts would be blind (no ink) embossed into the cards.

Today we’re adding one of our most requested features ever: Weddingbee Bios!
You can post to your bio in any one of 40 categories - from “How You Met” to what your “Cake” looks like. You can see an sample bio here by the incomparable Mrs. Penguin:

The Modern Bride Trendsetter Awards dinner is this coming Monday, and I need your help deciding what to wear! ![]()
The ever fabulous Amy Salinger came over today with dresses, shoes, purses and jewelry for me to try on. The clothes and jewelry were all borrowed, and the clutches were either very inexpensive (under $40) or from Amy’s personal collection.

Jewelry by Kara Ross. I’m in love with all her stuff!
The Weddingbee Gallery has been a big hit, and we’ve been enjoying the almost two thousand photos uploaded by brides.
We’ve been noticing though, that there’s a good number of gallery photos from vendors. We’d like the gallery itself to focus on brides — but it gave us the idea to create a separate gallery just for vendors. So without further ado, we’d like to introduce the PRO Folio - a place where photographers and other vendors can share photos of their portfolios!

We emailed all our PROs and a number of the most talented vendors in the wedding industry, and asked if they’d be willing to share their photos in Folio. Check out the portfolios of Anna Kuperberg, Becker, April Reed, Cheree Berry, Twigs and Honey and much more for inspiration galore!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I thought I’d share some details behind the Modern Bride photo shoot!
Remember how I did redid my workspace back in January? It was this photo shoot that was the impetus! When they said they wanted to shoot in the apartment that I just moved into, I knew I had to get cracking. Kim of Inspired Goodness (aka SIL Cupcake) did a fabulous job revamping my workspace!
We received emails from a few users that their computers were infected with WinPC Defender, a fake anti-spyware application. WinPC Defender claims to be an anti-spyware program, but it actually isn’t. It displays pop-up ads encouraging you to buy the “licensed” version of WinPC Defender software to “remove” it, which itself is a fraud.
We’ve done a security audit of our site and our advertisers, and there’s no trace of WinPC Defender. We’re investigating what could’ve caused this - but in the meantime, I did a ton of research on the program, and thought I’d share what we’ve found.
This isn’t a subtle program: if you’ve been infected, it will probably be obvious. Infected users will see regular ads for a licensed version of WinPC Defender. If you think your computer may be infected with WinPC Defender, a number of sites (like here) recommend you install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software to remove it.
I found an Editor’s review by CNET that gave them a great review: “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a surprisingly effective freeware antimalware tool. It’s a relatively speedy malware remover, with the quick scan taking about 8 minutes even with other high-resource programs running.”

This is a secret I’ve kept to myself since January when Antonia Van der Meer, editor in chief of Modern Bride magazine, called me to let me know that I was one of Modern Bride’s 2009 Trendsetters! It was definitely one of the most exciting moments of my life! Other trendsetters this year include event designer Colin Cowie, hair accessories guru Jennifer Behr, and jewelry designer Ivanka Trump (who is actually featured on the same page I am)!

Weddingbee focuses on all aspects of the wedding planning process, from the proposal to the honeymoon and everything in between. But we’ve always wanted to place more emphasis on how to improve and maintain healthy relationships with our significant others, which is far more important than the actual wedding day. So we’re very excited to announce the first ever Weddingbee Book Club, where we’ll read and discuss books on how to improve our relationships and marriages!
Here’s how it’s going to work: Each month a different Bee will host the book club by writing a synopsis of the chosen selection on the blog. Then anyone can start threads under the new “Book Club” forums we’ll be creating, where all of us will discuss the book at length.
This month’s selection is The Seven Principles for Making a Marriage Work by John Gottman, which is available for purchase on Amazon for $10.17. I’ve already purchased my copy!

In one of our contests last summer, we gave away 100 letterpressed invites from Jaelyn K Design to Weddingbee reader Elizabeth.

She was so happy with the stunning results, she sent us the following email:

While doing a bit of cleaning this past week, I stumbled on my old wedding planning folder. I found some of our vendor contracts, so I thought I’d share them with you! Keep in mind that these are prices from March 2005, but I think showing what was included in our contracts may be helpful.
Mr. Bee and I got married at the Westside Loft, a beautiful 210 person capacity, 9500 square foot loft in midtown Manhattan. It had 4 distinct areas — the room with the fireplace where we held our ceremony, the reception area (a quintessential New York loft space), a cozy lounge area with sofas, and a lovely garden room.

I actually found a picture of our wedding on their website! They must have taken this picture at some point during set-up because that big tree on the right was definitely moved before our wedding started.

Bridal shows can really be hit or miss, and if one was good a particular year, it isn’t necessarily indicative of whether it will be good the following year. I typically don’t attend bridal shows, but I ended up going to three in the past month, and luckily… they were all great!
First up was BFF Bridal. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the images on my camera from that event, but the venue was great, the food was superb, there was a great selection of high end vendors, and the gift bag was tres awesome. I think it’s a mistake when bridal shows don’t give press attendees gift bags, because how else will we write about them? I always give mine away anyway, but who doesn’t like receiving a little gift?
Next up: The Wedding Salon. This event was packed! A little too packed for my claustrophobic self, but there were some big names in the house!
I just discovered a really cool image search engine called TinEye. Here’s a description of the site:
TinEye is a reverse image search engine. You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions. TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks.
It doesn’t have a huge database yet, but it’s great for searching for things like wedding dresses. If you have the following picture of a wedding dress and don’t know the designer, upload the image or put in the url.
I’m attending a special taping of the Martha Stewart show next week, and I need to bring a diy craft with me. I wanted to make something with customized magnets because they’re cute and functional, but didn’t have the time. So Mrs. Green Tea came to the rescue and graciously offered to make me some of her fantastic bee magnets. This package arrived from her today, and it included a couple of surprises!
