I love all things design, sewing, flea markets, and a good book. I’ve been known to swoon over a well-designed chair and often find myself craving a new addition to my chair collection regardless of the lack square footage in our home. I’m Mexican American girl who hates all things spicy but loves her rowdy Mexican family and her Latin roots. We knew early on in our wedding planning that we wanted to have a first look. Not only did our first look give us tons of time to take pics with our family, wedding party, and each other, but it was also a wonderful moment for the two of us to share.
Before our first look I was so giddy and excited to finally see Mr. CC—to hug him and share the moments leading up to our wedding ceremony together. When I saw him on the lawn of the city library, all I wanted to do was bum rush him and wrap him up in a big bear hug! Thankfully I listened to our photog Heidi and took it slow as a means to give her enough time to capture some of my favorite moments of our whole wedding day.

While us ladies were busy primping, the boys were across town at Mr. CC’s step-dad’s house doing what they do best…
Drinking beer! (J/K) Don’t you just hate how it takes them two minutes to look cute? Seriously, I think it took the groomsmen all of five minutes to get dressed that morning, which left plenty of time for them to indulge in some adult beverages.

I originally planned to kick off my recaps with a rundown of all the madness leading up to our big day including the late night hours spent wiring a million and one pom poms to our giant wreath and my bridezilla moment at the bank after they informed me my debit card was canceled and I couldn’t take out any money. But really, who wants to read that? So, I decided to just jump in feet first with all the day-of goodies. I hope you enjoy it! Read more…

We’re baaaaack! It’s official: the Cotton Candies are officially man and wife!
Our wedding was the most amazing, loved-filled affari we could have ever asked for. As expected, we had a few minor hiccups (ahem…eight non-RSVPed guests), but looking back, all I remember is the rush of joy I felt as crept up to meet Mr CC during our first look. Read more…

It’s that time! Finally, after over a year of planning, 10 years of dating, and 100 of yarn poms later, we are finally ready to walk down that aisle and make it official! The last couple of days have been a whirlwind of activity and unexpected roadblocks, and I’ll admit that some tears have been shed (at Bank of America, no less) but I’m ready to finally get this show in the road.
Words cannot express my gratitude to you all and this wonderful community. I’m honored and humbled to call myself a member of such a supportive and creative group of women, and our wedding would not be the same without all of your wonderful comments and support.
To the man I love, because I know you read this blog, I big puffy pom pom heart love you. You’re the one person in this world who gets me and all my little quirks. When I said, “let’s make a 3-foot wreath entirely of pom poms,” you didn’t ask me if I was crazy. Instead you said, “OK,” and asked how you could help. It’s that undying support that has made this whole wedding process easy. Thank you for being my best friend and for a shoulder to cry on, and for always supporting me, regardless of how crazy my ideas are. After 10 years, I cannot wait to finally walk down the aisle and officially get to my husband. I love you, Misters.

It’s wedding week in the Cotton Candy house! As I type, brother CC and SIL CC are sitting out in our living room cranking out pom poms for our giant pom wreath, I just got the second phone call from our DJ asking for our music list, and my hands are covered in Gocco ink from our favors. It’s been a busy couple of weeks for us but we are sooo ready to get this show on the road and finally be able to call each other husband and wife.
Projects are quickly being completed, and the one project I was so excited to see finished also happened to be the one I had absolutely no control over. Remember way back when I shared with you my love of chairs? Well, I finally figured out how to bring that love into our day. I happened to have two matching Louis-style chairs in my collection, so we decided to have them reupholstered in coordinating fabrics, and voila! Fancy shmancy bride and groom chairs. Our upholsterer delivered the chairs, and they look beautiful.
To finish of the look I threw together matching glitter banners, and our chairs are complete: Read more…

A while back I shared with you my idea to top our cake with miniature Eames chairs to represent my obsession with chairs and our love of mid-century design. Since Mr CC refused to associate his likeness to something as large as a chair I hit the internet again in hopes of finding a cake topper that represented us as a couple and was a little quirky.
Since the cake topper was such a small element in our wedding I wanted to keep the overall cost low, at under 50 bucks. This meant that my 2nd favorite cake topper, sweet little love birds from Ann Wood, were out of the question.

Back when our wedding was just a glimmer in Mr CCandy’s and my eyes, we never envisioned our final month before the wedding to be so hectic, stressful, and downright heartbreaking. The past two weeks have been an emotional one for the Cotton Candy family. On Thursday June 2nd, Mr CC received a phone call from his step dad informing him that his mother had been complaining of severe pain and was taken to the ER but was stable. Since his step dad had assured him his mother was stable, Mr CC wasn’t too concerned when he took off for the hospital and declined my offer to tag along. About an hour later as I was on my way to work, I received a phone call from Mr CC: his mother had suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and due to its location in her brain stem, she would most likely not survive.
The next few days were a blur of hospital waiting rooms, bad cafeteria food, and lots and lots of tears. On Saturday June 4th, Mr CC’s mom passed peacefully surrounded by those who loved her and was laid to rest this past weekend. Read more…

Back when I first began searching for inspiration photos for our wedding I found myself swooning over initial wreaths like the one above. I love the simple symmetry of the wreath and it seemed like such a simple DIY project that would pack a lot of visual punch. Read more…

A couple of weeks ago Mr CC and I had a chance to meet up with our oh-so-fabulous photographer for our e-pics! For those of you doing the math: yes, we waited until less than 2 months before our wedding to take our engagement pictures, and yes, I’m pretty sure our photographer thought it was odd that nearly one year after we signed our contract we had yet to contact her about our session. We had waited so long that she had to reach out to us to schedule it.
What can I say? Procrastination is the name of the game in the Cotton Candy house. The wait was sooo worth it because our photographer brought it hardcore—when I got the proofs in my inbox at work I almost started crying.
On the day of our e-shoot I was so nervous that our pics wouldn’t fit the vision in my head and that we would end up looking like two puff balls of chub in really nice clothes (kinda like my icon, but less pink and with cute shoes). Let’s face it: the Cotton Candies are not your svelte supermodel types, but I should have known better than to stress. One of the main reasons we chose to go with our Photog Heidi Ryder was because of her amazing ability to make anyone look gorgeous. Her blog and website are full of images of couples (and families!) of all different races, ages and sizes, and everyone looks picture perfect, so I should have known that we would be no different.
Enough with my rambling…on with the good stuff! Our shoot started off at a newsstand by our favorite restaurant in Hollywood called The Daily Planet.

By now you’ve probably noticed that the Cotton Candy wedding isn’t your typical formal affair. It probably goes without saying that the some of the more traditional wedding day traditions and accessories such as a garter, cake cutting set, and toasting flutes aren’t high on the CCandy must-have list. Actually, these items are on our don’t need/don’t want/please don’t waste your money on it-list.
Mami CCandy apparently hasn’t gotten the memo. For the past 6 months she’s been insisting that it is Sister CC’s duty as maid of honor to gift us toasting flutes and a cake server. We couldn’t go to one family gathering without her bringing it up. The most mundane conversations would lead to a discussion about toasting flutes and cake cutting. I’m not sure why she was so obsessed, but no amount of reason would change her mind, so it was no surprise when I unwrapped sister CC’s shower gift and found this:

Alternative title: How the Wrong Linens Cost Miss Cotton Candy 500 Bucks and Her Sanity
Yesterday I received what I’d describe as a barf-inducing call from our coordinator regarding our linens. I’m not sure what spurred our coordinator to reach out to our rental company to confirm the dimensions of our linens—maybe some sort of wedding coordinator sixth sense—but I’m thankful that she did, because the linens we reserved are too short for our tables. This isn’t the end of the world, but this isn’t really what I had in mind when I envisioned our tables:
The simple fix would be to reserve new floor-length linens from our rental company and call it a day. Read more…

I’ve said it before Hive: I have the best bridesmaids on the face of the planet and there is no great evidence of this than the amazing shower that they threw in our honor this past weekend. Bridesmaid S and SD (who happens to be 7 months pregnant with her first baby!) thought of everything from a perfectly coordinated candy buffet, to yummy homemade sweets, a plethora of tasty wines and spirits to get the party going, and even went as far as having a professional photographer to document the day!

This past weekend Mr CC and I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful shower in our honor, thrown by my amazing bridesmaids. I had mentioned earlier that I had offered to take the favor portion of the party planning off my bridesmaids’ plate, so the Friday before our shower I got busy cranking out these easy peasy DIY sachet favors.
You may be surprised to know that they’re bits and pieces of yarn I’ve been saving from my pom pom crafts. For some crazy reason I’ve spent the last 5 months saving all of my yarn trimmings from my poms, so when the idea of making scented sachets for the shower came up, I knew I had the perfect filler.
