On Not Being a Bridezilla

April 20th, 2012 @ 5:58 am by Miss Fox

Us ladies get a lot of shit from a lot of people about being or turning into the ever popular term bridezilla. This annoys me.

While it’s true that some women can get a little…over the top (I mean, hi, Bridezillas on WE tv was created for a reason)…that does not mean that every time someone gets a bit particular or focused on the details that they are automatically a bridezilla. It’s just not fair.

I Feel Pretty, Oh So Pretty…

April 17th, 2012 @ 8:37 am by Miss Fox

I feel pretty and witty and gayyyyyyy!

Ahem. Pardon my brief West Side Story moment.

Let’s forget all about that post office mumbo jumbo for a minute, because today? Today was definitely a pretty day. I’m going to pin it on the fact that I had both my hair and makeup trials. Yep… pretty sure that’s it!

Real quick, before we get to the good stuff: remember how I said brideslady M was going to do my makeup for me? That ended up changing a bit. See, Brianna, both my friend and hair stylist, actually started working alongside someone who does airbrush makeup for weddings and other events. Together, they formed Metro Elegance, an on-location artistry group specializing in hair and makeup. Both ladies also happen to be super close to my good friend Emily (also our officiant) - Brianna is her sister-in-law and the makeup artist, Lauren, works alongside her during the week at a local catering company.

While I booked Bri to do my hair a while back, Lauren and I only briefly chatted about her possibly doing my wedding day makeup. As time went on and my money situation got tight, I never followed up and just figured I’d do it myself/have brideslady M help me out. However! I’ve gotten to know the two of them much better over the past year, and somehow all the stars magically aligned and as of just a few weeks ago, I will now be working with both of them on our wedding day! Brideslady M won’t have to fret about me and my makeup, and I’ll get all primped and pampered from two amazing artists and friends. It’s a win-win!

Now onto the goodies - let’s start with the makeup. I knew I didn’t want anything too dramatic - just an enhanced version of my everyday look. I normally just go with the basics, maybe a little flair around the eyes, but nothing too fancy.

I Feel Pretty, Oh So Pretty... : wedding hair makeup trial Natural natural

Pretty usual.

It’s all I really know how to do. That, and stage makeup from my years of dancing.

I’m Never Staying in a Hotel Again

April 9th, 2012 @ 4:58 pm by Miss Fox

No, not because of a bad experience. Because of a really, really good one in a non-hotel environment.

This past weekend was Brideslady M’s bachelorette party in good ol’ NYC, which I helped organize and plan. After getting thoroughly annoyed at the amount of money we’d have to spend on two decent hotel rooms for seven or eight girls for two nights, I turned to some alternative sources.

Have you guys ever heard of Vacation Rentals by Owner or Home Away? It’s where Brideslady Bunny Love (formally known as Brideslady G…she requested a name change) found that amazing penthouse that we’ll be staying at in Mexico for our friendymoon, and it seemed like the perfect solution for our little NYC hotel dilemma. If you are unfamiliar with the sites or the concept…it’s just a place where house/apartment owners put their properties up for rent for a day, week, month, whatever. Nine times out of ten, it’s about 10000000% cheaper than getting a hotel room, and it makes it feel like a home away from home because, well, you’re in someone’s home. Not as weird as it sounds.

Anyway, without getting too nasty, not one of the eight properties I contacted via Vacation Rentals by Owner got back to me about possibly renting their space this past weekend. Lame. (And terrible business practices.) At this point, M’s bachelorette was two weeks away, and we still didn’t have a place to stay. Yes, I was freaking out like you wouldn’t believe.

Wedding Explosion

April 7th, 2012 @ 9:00 am by Miss Fox

I was on the phone with Foxy Mama the other day, catching her up on all the wedding related things currently happening/being created/that need to paid for soon. I paused, told her I needed to look around the wedding room to think of what else was needing to be done, when she immediately stopped the conversation.

“The WEDDING ROOM?!”

Yes, mom, the wedding room. I guess in everyday life you would call this our office, but it has slowly but surely become the place where all things wedding related are stored/thrown/strewn about. Hence, it is not called the office anymore.

About Miss Fox

I have this (potentially bad) habit of feeling the need to buy something when I think it’s cute, regardless of whether or not I actually have a plan for it or know exactly how I can use it. (I’m also a pro at returning things.) So when I saw these little wooden frames for a buck or two at Michaels a few months back, I bought a whole bunch of them. They had a rustic type vibe and I figured there had to be something I could do with them for the wedding.

On the way home, it came to me: chalkboards!

My Super Easy DIY Chalkboards That Were Not So Super Easy : wedding crafts diy havre de grace tutorial Diylov diy+lov

I know everyone and their mother seems to be incorporating chalkboards into their wedding in some form or another these days, and I’m totally another sucker for ’em. I would love to place one at each of our food stations, one at the bar, one for the restrooms, etc and so forth. However, seeing as the frames I bought were just frames - no backing, no stand, just plain unfinished wood - I figured I could get some plywood from Home Depot to use as the backing, get it cut to size, spray with chalkboard paint, and glue it to the frames. Easy peasy, right?

Well obviously not, if you read the title of this post.

Saying No to Bare Feet

April 2nd, 2012 @ 5:58 am by Miss Fox

There I was, in line to buy a few wedding related items of clothing, when the girl in front of me put her purchase on the counter. It was a pair of crocheted turquoise flats, slightly reminiscent of the ever popular Toms.

I saw, my interest got piqued, I envied. I had already waited in line for 10 minutes and really didn’t want to hunt for those turquoise beauties and have to wait another 10 minutes on the newly formed line behind me. So I let out a sigh, bought my items, headed for the exit.

Basically, a different player becomes the subject of the question asked each turn, depending on where your game piece lands. Everyone secretly votes for their answer, including the subject of the question—the most popular answer “wins” the round, even if the most popular is different from what the subject put for his or herself.

It started out with a cute little picture of a drink in a mason jar.

Lush Lemonade : wedding alcohol food havre de grace Pinkish pinkish

Then I became convinced that we needed to have a signature cocktail (rather than a champagne toast) at the wedding. The next step was to decide what the signature cocktail would actually be.

I debated something simple like a blueberry gimlet, or maybe something more unique like a blackberry basil lemonade. I asked for your opinions, scoured the internet, tested out different cocktails.

Then I noticed this fantastic looking pink concoction posted by our very own Miss Mink a while ago.

Need. Sleep. And a Glass of Wine.

March 22nd, 2012 @ 8:59 am by Miss Fox

The past few nights, I’ve woken up around 2:30am unbelievably anxious with this immense sensation of being incredibly overwhelmed. I’m already prone to anxiety—it’s been pretty good for the past year and a half or so, but I feel it starting to take over my life again. It’s like a panic attack in the middle of the night, for no reason whatsoever. I mean, sure…my to do list seems to be ever expanding and I also volunteered to organize and plan brideslady M’s bachelorette party coming up in two weeks…but in my waking hours, I feel in control. Once I go to bed, it seems to be a whole different story.

The closer the wedding gets, the more I’ve realized I have to do. It’s all stuff that I just sort of assumed would get done at some point, stuff that had to wait until closer to the wedding (think: programs, rehearsal dinner invites, favors, etc). Now that certain details have been settled on and I can actually get started on these things, I’m getting that overwhelmed sensation and I start panicking, especially at night when I’m in bed and have all these thoughts running through my mind.

Of course, money plays a part in all of this as well. Our original budget was for 110 people, but it looks we’ll be closer to 130. There’s at least a couple hundred. The due date for the remainder due for our photog, DJ, flowers, and cake is coming up in May. There’s a couple thousand. Up until last I week I completely forgot that I’m getting my hair and nails done and paying for part of the girls’ hair, so there’s another couple hundred. I still need things for our favors, the guestbook, reception decor, ceremony decor, etcetera. Omigod I’m panicking.

A Floaty Guestbook Part 2—Decision Time

March 19th, 2012 @ 5:16 am by Miss Fox

When we last left off, I asked for your opinions on my hand drawn version of the UP house to use for our finger print guestbook. There were some marvelous suggestions and alternative ideas, but I knew I really wanted to try and use my hand drawn house in some way, shape, or form. Preferably a cleaned up version, but still the house in some essence.

Welp, I didn’t have much time to mull over my options because hive member Miss.E messaged me later that very same day; apparently this awesome lady just voluntarily whipped up a vector image of my house using a program called Inkscape (I gather that it’s like a free version of Illustrator!). When I opened up the attachment, I was stunned. She took this..

March 15th, 2012 @ 4:24 pm by Miss Fox

Not only has Foxy ordered his suit, but so have 80% of the groomsmen (that’s 4 out of 5, right?). And, to top it all off, the ladies have all chosen their dresses and I’m super in love with all of them.

You will need to use your imagination a bit - they will ultimately all be both short and oasis in color (a la pictures 2 and 3).

There’s a good mix of styles going on, but I love how each dress really reflects each of the girls’ personalities. Brideslady M (the picture farthest to the right) even mentioned she loves her pick so much that she’s actually excited to wear it. Perhaps some of them really will wear it again….?

Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!
