About Me: I’m a notorious people-watcher who loves all things paper, food, traveling, grubbin’ on food, gossip magazines, food, sock monkeys…did I mention food?! Mr. Sushi and I are both haolepinos (half Filipino, half Caucasian) and hope to be able to somehow incorporate our cultures at our destination wedding in Hawaii. All while planning from the sweetest place in earth, Hershey!
I’m having a shoe dilemma,, which is actually kinda funny since it only took me 5 minutes to find a wedding dress I liked, but it’s been taking me MONTHS to find one pair of shoes. I wanted a pair of fun, funky, red shoes. Preferably peep toe. Here were some shoes that inspired me:

In continuation of should or should I not have a bouquet, I really love the look of peonies.

But I’m not a fan of their prices. Ouch! Carnations, on the other hand, look similar to peonies when bunched together and are great on the wallet. I’m really loving the look of carnations.

I’m a budget bride. While our guest list is small (15-20 peeps), trying to plan a Hawaii wedding from the East Coast can be quite costly. To save some cash, we’ve
cut out the bridal party and have decided to forgo the traditional reception (more on that later). We also hope to save in the flower department. While flowers can definitely jazz up a place, we can’t justify spending thousands of dollars on them (if we had the $$, it might be a different story). Plus, the wedding is in
Hawaii; there is
sooo much natural beauty, why should we pay for more?
Here’s our ceremony site…

So how can I add some color without adding major cost?

Ring orbs are a great alternative to the traditional ring pillow! Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so; Mrs. Bell Pepper and Mrs. Kiwi both loved this idea too.
For those who liked this idea but are having problems finding such a thing, look no further! Here’s a lil’ twist on the idea…

Money. A sensitive issue. Although, one of the first questions we’re asked when we tell people we’re planning a wedding in Hawaii is, “Who’s paying for the wedding?” Well, we are, although my dad has generously offered to pay for our luau reception/dinner. Mr. Sushi and I will be paying for the bulk of the trip/event.
A few months ago I applied to a few retail stores in hopes that having a part-time job (on top of my current full-time job) would bring in extra income. Well, during the summertime, retail stores aren’t exactly booming with new hirees. Now I’m relieved that I wasn’t called for an interview, because I’ve been doing sooo much freelance photography that I barely have time to myself (let alone time for Mr. Sushi).
I’ve enjoyed photography for as long as I can remember. I actually can remember being in a dark room at age 8, not really knowing what I was doing, but it was fun. As a young kid in the ’80s, my photography skills were pretty much limited to how to push a button on a point and shoot camera. Growing up in a military family, I got the opportunity to see many (and live in many!) countries as a child. My dad was an intermediate-novice (oxymoron?!) photographer and had a manual Minolta SLR camera; he would document our travels. His camera would end up being my first SLR camera.

While I don’t have any good, juicy stories, here are a few tidbits about me (that took Mr. Sushi 3 years to find out).
- I am a total daydreamer and I have a tendency to totally space out while I’m driving—to the point where I don’t pay attention to where my destination is and have a habit of missing my turns. Mr. Sushi is now in the habit of reminding me when I need to turn, and when he doesn’t (and I totally miss the turn), I blame him for not reminding me.
- I swear I’m dyslexic. I’ve never been diagnosed, but I swear I am… especially when it comes to numbers.

I have a habit of starting craft projects and then never finishing them. There was the pair of bell bottom pants I tried to hand sew in high school, or the sock monkey I never finished and I have a couple scrapbooks that are less than halfway done.
Most of my projects end up looking like this… not finished. source
Last year, when I was a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding, another bridesmaid and I started meeting once a week to scrapbook the bride’s wedding events. In 6 months, we were able to scrap all the bridal events; the shower, the bachelorette party, and the wedding. We had gotten sooo much done that we decided to continue to meet once a week and start scrapping our own memories. She worked on a book for her husband and I started to scrap all the dating memories of Mr. Sushi and I.

Once upon a time, before I had the honor of being a bee, Weddingbee honored me with 10 free tickets to see Tony n Tina’s Wedding; an interactive off Broadway play.

Okay, okay, so I wasn’t the original winner, but apparently the original winner of these tickets couldn’t use them, so they were offered to me. There was no hesitation on my part to accept these “golden” tickets!
I was able to gather and coordinate with 6 of my bestest girls (do you know how hard it is to schedule a date between 7 girls?). We rented a 7 seater mini van and 6 of us drove the 2.5 hour drive to NYC together; the 7th girlie met us in the city.
We got to NYC a lil’ early so we stopped in at the M&M store and walked a good mile to try Beard Papa’s infamous cream puffs (and mochi ice cream! Yum!).

In my “college” years I attended a 2-year art school. Towards the end of my 2nd year I started getting the worst migraines. They were the kind where any light or noise would make my head feel like it was being stabbed by an ice pick. I was prescribed Imitrex and later figured out my massive and frequent migraines were due to stress. The stress of graduating from school and having to venture out into the real world with hopes of finding a job.
Last week I had my first “ice pick” headache in 7 years.

Back to the OOT boxes… the contents!!
I talked earlier about the exterior of our out of town boxes, and now it’s time for the fun stuff… the goodies! The majority of our guests have never been to Hawaii before, so I thought this would be a good way to introduce them to some of my island favorites. Hawaiian Sun (yum!), obviously macadamia nuts (Mauna Loa is actually a Hershey product now), Li Hing Mui covered candies, and island inspired chips, to name a few.
