RSVP, SVP, SVP!

January 11th, 2010 @ 5:54 pm by Mrs. Parfait

I always figured I’d spend the least amount of time on the RSVP part of our invitation suite. After all, people will only have it in their possession for a short period of time. Perhaps the invitation will be tucked in a special drawer (or lovingly framed on the wall?) and the Save the Date magnet will stay on the fridge. But the RSVP? It’s temporary. Forgettable. A glance, and it’s gone.

But then I saw these beauties! Multiple events on one card? Artful designs and fancy dancy letterpress? While writing their names, our guests couldn’t help but touch the deep, flourishing imprints. The cards would come back to us—fingerprinted, slightly worn, and perhaps marked with a smidgen of drool. Oh, the power of stationery.

101 Days to Go!

January 7th, 2010 @ 4:50 pm by Mrs. Parfait

Hello, hive! I hope everyone had a beautiful, joyous holiday season! I’ve spent the last few weeks playing in sunny Florida. Our family of ten slept in three bedrooms, strolled on the beach on Christmas, and road-tripped to Disney World on New Year’s! I’ve spent any free time playing with my puppy Luxi and reading the stack of books I picked up from the library. Weddings? Vendors? Important things I have to do in reality? Meh, phoo, and lolli-loo. It feels like that life was ages ago!

That is, until this morning, when I found the How Long Until Calculator. I punched in our wedding date, and out came the result: We have 101 days until we’re newlyweds!

Part of me thinks, ‘Hurry up already! I’m ready to get married and move on with my life!’

But my Eeyore-like split personality thinks, ‘Um. I probably should’ve gotten on that MASSIVE to-do list a few hundred days ago. I might need more time.’

So I sent Mr. Parfait, who flew back to Chicago early, our 70-bullet-points-and-growing To Do list.

High School Satellite

December 23rd, 2009 @ 5:18 pm by Mrs. Parfait

When BFF and I met for our Christmas celebration, we took a little time to discuss satellite party details! About that: My wedding planning book calls all the events surrounding a wedding “Satellite Celebrations”, so that’s what I’ve taken to calling them.

We brainstormed a list of themes that we could use for any of the events. Since Mr. Parfait and I met in high school, we thought a high school theme would be appropriate! Besides our little brainstorming session, BFF wants to keep the details of these parties a surprise. But I couldn’t resist—as soon as I got home, I did some research to flesh out the theme!

For starters, we could set the tables with simple centerpieces in our school colors. Ours were red and white, just like this. Check out the notebook paper place cards!

Fluffy Snow, Fuzzy Boots

December 22nd, 2009 @ 2:23 pm by Mrs. Parfait

So remember my habit of falling in love with very specific items that I can never actually obtain? Well, I realized that Mr. Parfait totally doesn’t understand the “never actually obtain” part… because he just gave me an early Christmas present:

Fluffy Snow, Fuzzy Boots : wedding shoes Boots boots

MmmMMmMMmmm…now that’s what I call bootilicious!

I spotted these boots in a UK bridal magazine a few months ago. Like all of my object-crushes, I was resigned to loving them from afar.

Our Manly Wedding Website

December 11th, 2009 @ 1:36 pm by Mrs. Parfait

When we decided on a wedding website, we didn’t give it much thought. In fact, my MOH and I first realized we needed a website when she was helping me with the Save the Dates! There was a blank space on the magnets for a URL, and in a rush to fill it, we did a quick Google search for wedding website hosts. BAD idea. We were completely overwhelmed! There were so many options, and at first glance, everything was way too feminine to force upon Mr. Parfait and the more masculine half of the guest list.

So, we went with what I knew: Blogs! MOH and I created a new WordPress blog that would be disguised as a wedding website. It was free, fast, and super simple! Did I mention free? Here’s what we did:

1. Create a new blog, and look for a template that emphasizes separate pages. Anything with large tabs works nicely. Keep in mind that you can usually customize the colors and banners.

A Sensitive Bride

December 9th, 2009 @ 4:00 pm by Mrs. Parfait

I know that I’m a stuck-in-a-happy-bubble, head-in-the-clouds kind of bride, but I’ll take a moment to get real with all of you. There is one thing that plagues and worries me about our wedding, and it’s something I can’t entirely control.

My sensitive skin.

Okay, you can laugh. It’s pretty common and usually not too traumatizing. Unless, of course, you’re like me, and your skin freaks out over every little thing it touches. Like forks. Or couches. Or pants. Yeeeah… all thanks to:

Hope It’s Not Too Late!

December 7th, 2009 @ 4:54 pm by Mrs. Parfait

To ask you to Save the Date!

We finally sent out our Save the Dates! This morning! :) I would give a big “PHEW,” but there are actually a couple more addresses we need to track down. Oh, how I wish I could cross this off my To-Do list. It’s been on there forrrever.

As you know, we wanted to include a short poem to tell people, “Hey, I’m a magnet. Don’t throw me away!” Here’s what they’ll see when they open the envelope:

Our Faces, Your Fridge

December 4th, 2009 @ 3:54 pm by Mrs. Parfait

Once upon a time, in part of the wedding timeline far, far away, we made our Save the Date magnets. I promised to show them to you once we sent them out, and send them we will! Tomorrow. I planned to send them at the 6-8 month mark, but there ain’t no shame in 4 months!

When we left off on this subject, I decided to order from MagnetStreet. My MOH, J, came over to help. Now would be a good time to introduce you to J! She was my roomie all four years in college and the closest thing I have to a twin sister. We met in high school and bonded over a million things, including the fact that we’re both giggle-pants. And together, we were even bigger, more powerful giggle-pants, much to the annoyance of our teachers. :)

Our Faces, Your Fridge : wedding save the dates 1 1

For one afternoon, we stifled our laughter (kind of) and got to work! We started clicking through the 60+ pages of options and chose our favorites. (All images from the MagnetStreet website.)

Save the Date Rhymes

November 30th, 2009 @ 5:04 pm by Mrs. Parfait

It’s five months out, and Mr. Parfait was ready to send our Save the Dates weeks ago. I caused a series of delays (just call me Miss Indecisive), including a last-minute plan to enclose a sweet two-line poem. It would add a personal touch and let people know that the enclosed item is a magnet. We came up with a few of our own, searched Weddingbee for ideas, and asked our rhyming-inclined friends for suggestions. Out of ideas, Mr. Parfait suggested we post the question on another online community.

At first, I asked him not to—I thought most of the comments would be useless, crass, and generally anti-wedding. (It ain’t no Weddingbee!) And many of them were. But we did it for fun, braced ourselves for the worst, and, 308 replies later, actually found a few gems! Here are the ones that made us smile:

We’re having a wedding, as you might have guessed/And this magnet means we want YOU as a guest!

When we met, we knew it was fate/Here is a magnet to save the date.

A magnet for you to let you know/Our wedding’s approaching, we hope you go!

When you go to the fridge to feed your face/Remember our wedding’s time and place.

Put this magnet in your kitchen/So you’ll remember when we’re hitchin’.

Dark Room, Bright Colors

November 23rd, 2009 @ 6:21 pm by Mrs. Parfait

I’ve been a little torn about our color scheme. Since we haven’t met with our florist, there’s still time to switch from our bright citrus scheme to something that would match our reception hall better. I love our colors (especially bright pink!) but burgundy, brown, and taupe would look perfect in our ballroom. Those colors aren’t “us”, but sometimes I wonder if it would be classier and more eyeball-friendly if our colors matched our venue.

Because of this little conundrum, it’s always a pleasure to see examples of cheery colors in dark spaces, as shown in the pictures below!

Our Bunny Theme: Favors

November 20th, 2009 @ 4:51 pm by Mrs. Parfait

To avoid forest animal overload, we’re keeping the bunny theme subtle. Small. In the details.

You see, I would really love to have an elegant wedding. Pretty, sophisticated, and formal. And that’s the plan so far! But my heart lives for cuteness. And the one detail that I can go crazy-freaking-cute with is the favors! We have no idea what we’re going to do for our favors, but I’ll use this time to propose some ideas.

1. First up, silhouette tea tins. Pretty classy, right? I’m not big on tea, but one of my favorite childhood candies came in a tin like this. I think it’s still available at Asian grocery stores. We could easily wrap up the candy tins with any pictures and text we want.

Our Bunny Theme: Decor

November 17th, 2009 @ 5:34 pm by Mrs. Parfait

As I’ve mentioned before, Mr. Parfait’s last name means bunny in Serbian. I love it and definitely plan to bunnify our wedding!

Over the past few months (okay, years) I’ve developed a little habit: Whenever I see birdie details in someone’s wedding photos, I always imagine bunnies in their place. Well, now it’s the bunnies’ turn, I say! Here are a few of the bunny details I’m considering for our wedding. And if you prefer, feel free to replace the rabbits with horses, butterflies, baby deer, harp seals, or whatever strikes your fancy!
