The final leg of our venue search:
Finally we finished with the posh, funky, Parker Palm Springs Hotel. My wonderful friend L had stayed here before and told us we were in for a treat. At the uber cool entrance we were greeted with a valet for our car.

We’re going to the Yucatan for our honeymoon (I’m so excited!). In the beginning of the planning process we were completely clueless as to where to go. Mr. Peppermint wanted city and culture, and while I would like both of those, I definitely wanted some relaxation! After my dad’s suggestion, I called the travel agent that he’s used countless times for our family trips (Classic Travel) and went from there. Sheila has been great! She really helped us hone in on what we are looking for and plan a trip that is perfectly suited to us. So here it is:
December 1oth (the Monday after our Saturday wedding)
Flight from LAX to Cancun (arriving at 4:25pm)
Drive our rental car south to Playa del Carmen
We’re either staying at Hotel La Tortuga (swim-up room!) or Mosquite Beach (La Tortuga is booked, but we’re seeing if it opens up…)

Our search for a venue continues…
Next we went to Spencer’s Restaurant. We had high hopes coming in–always dangerous, I know. But after reading the review in “Here Comes The Guide,” it sounded perfect for us. Rich in history as a hangout for old Hollywood (in Palm Springs Tennis District) and known for its delicious food, it seemed like it could be perfect.
The first red flag was when we walked up. The place was decked out with poinsettias and Christmas trees (we later asked and they would not remove these if we booked our wedding there). Now, ordinarily this wouldn’t be a bad thing. I LOVE Christmas and the whole holiday season. But Mr. Peppermint and I had been clear on the fact that despite our wedding being during December, we didn’t want it to be holiday-themed.
As we met with the coordinator here she took us through the facility. The building was retro, but not in a cool way. Instead, more in the they-haven’t-updated-this-building-since-the-’80’s sort of way. To be fair, on the day we came, there had been some mysterious leak from their indoor waterfall that forced them to clear the room and work on drying the carpet. The space, I’m sure, could be decked out to look really gorgeous. However, that day was not its best day.
As you can tell from the title of this post, I thought I should share with all of you our venue, as well as the journey finding it…
When Mr. Peppermint and I got engaged, one of the first decisions we made was to have the wedding in Palm Springs. Not only is that where Mr. Peppermint proposed, but it’s been a favorite weekend getaway for the last three years. We wanted everyone to see that it wasn’t just a land for retired golfers and spa enthusiasts. We’ve had so many great trips out there and wanted to share that with our family and friends. However, when I first started the planning process, I quickly got overwhelmed (a common reaction, I gather). And having the wedding 90 miles away (and with LA traffic!) has created some challenges–especially because I couldn’t just drop by to view a venue. Instead, we had to have a game plan.
Hello Weddingbee Readers, I’m Miss Peppermint!
I’m so excited to be a part of the hive and hope that you’ll enjoy reading my posts…I picked peppermint because I’ll be getting married in December, I love red & white, and I like to think that I have a bit of a kick to me.
Mr. Peppermint and I met four & a half years ago in college. We live in Los Angeles and love to watch movies, go to odd museums (the Liberace Museum, anyone?), make ravioli from scratch and play the Nintendo wii. I have an unhealthy obsession with Martha Stewart Weddings & In Style Weddings which has really helped feed my wedding planning habit.
As you know, we’ll be getting married in Palm Springs this December. We picked Palm Springs because it’s been our favorite weekend escape for the last three years and we really wanted to share that with our family and friends… It doesn’t hurt that it’s also where Mr. Peppermint proposed and Palm Springs (and the outlying area) has unofficially become “our” place. There have been some challenges planning a wedding 100 miles away, but at least it’s close enough that we’ve been able to drive out there a few times during the planning process.
I really look forward to being a part of the weddingbee community–I’m the first of my friends to get engaged and it’s been so wonderful reading the blog and hearing from other people going through the same thing as I am. Thanks for having me! ![]()
