DIY Heaven… or Hell?

February 21st, 2012 @ 7:50 am by Miss Petit Four

This is the story of my life right now…

Remember all those DIY projects that I started, oh, four months ago, that I thought I had a lot of time to finish? Yeah, well now I have about 19 days to finish them. Doh! How did the wedding sneak up so fast??!?!?!

DIY Heaven... or Hell? : wedding diy isla mujeres Picture051 Picture via Hand Made Ryan Gosling

Making our own menus and programs seemed like such a good idea at the time, but now I could honestly care less about them. I’m sure I will get them done, but instead of actually doing them tonight, I will just write about how I should be doing them. :D

So here’s my advice to all the brides to bee that are still months out from their wedding:

Dad AND Mom?

February 14th, 2012 @ 4:45 pm by Miss Petit Four

I’m talking about the big march down the aisle.

My mom and dad are two of the most important people in my life, and they both had their fair share of fun while raising me. I thought about it a lot and realized that I want both parents to walk me down the aisle.

Gifting the Girls

February 10th, 2012 @ 6:03 am by Miss Petit Four

Searching for bridesmaids’ gifts was one of the hardest tasks I have yet to come across while planning this dang wedding. I needed to find something that was small enough for me to take to Mexico and something the girls wouldn’t mind lugging back to the states.

I liked the idea of getting them jewelry and I probably still will get them each a nice necklace or something, but I wanted to do something a little different. (I promise, this is cool! Keep reading.)

Gifting the Parents

February 8th, 2012 @ 6:50 am by Miss Petit Four

On the cheap, of course. If you haven’t noticed by now, I like gifting things that look really awesome, but don’t cost a lot of money.

Gifting our parents was something that I totally overlooked until someone told me I was supposed to. And why not, really? They are the reason this whole shindig is happening. The best part about it is I don’t think they will be expecting anything, so they will be surprised. Hopefully my mom isn’t reading this right now…if you are, please stop reading. :)

I went to my one-stop shop to check out some popular gifts for the parents. Etsy. It’s not always the cheapest place, but there is some really nice stuff that’s meaningful too.

So, I’ll start with dad. I found these awesome cufflinks that brought a tear to my eye.

Our Petit Wedding

February 2nd, 2012 @ 10:58 am by Miss Petit Four

See what I did there with the title? Petit? hehe.

Our final count on guests is a whopping 33! It’s to be expected since we are getting married so far away, but I am actually really excited that we will get to spend lots of time with our favorite people on earth. Since the wedding is quickly approaching, the reality that certain people won’t be at the wedding is starting to sink in.

Certain people like my grandma, one of my favorite aunts and two cousins that I grew up with won’t be attending. I realize that’s the price you pay for having a destination wedding, but it didn’t hit me until recently.

Sometimes I wonder if we should have done the big, traditional wedding like many of my cousins did, so everyone would be able to see us get married.

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to DIY Amateur Hour on Weddingbee! Just kidding, it’s not a new feature we are starting up…it’s just me, Miss Petit Four.

Sometimes when I am in the middle of a DIY project, I honestly think I am doing it the completely wrong way and there’s probably a better way to do whatever it is I’m trying to do. Nevertheless, I am here to share with you how I made our table numbers. It was super-easy and pretty basic and I think they came out awesome.

OOT Bags

January 28th, 2012 @ 8:40 am by Miss Petit Four

Or Out-Of-Town bags if you’re not hip with the wedding lingo yet.

I decided a long time ago that we would do OOT bags for our guests, since they are going to be traveling so far to come and see us. We want them to be as comfy as possible and not have to worry about little things that they may have forgotten at home.

I bought these tote bags last summer from Dollar Tree and literally drove around to every DT store and cleaned them out. Our OOT bags are going to be pretty practical, but we hope our guests still enjoy them!

Steak or Fish?

January 24th, 2012 @ 10:15 am by Miss Petit Four

We are having a seated dinner for our guests, so we had to come up with a way to designate a way for the servers to know who was eating steak and who was eating fish. I didn’t really like the formality of place settings that much, since we were going for a laid-back feel at the beach, but I figured it was the best way to identify people to the waitstaff.

After tracking down the people that didn’t send their response cards back (that’s a brand new stamp on that response card, y’all!) to find out what they wanted to eat, I was able to do a little research on some cute place settings.

I knew I had seen a really cute picture where the bride had used these mini wooden clothespins to hold the place setting onto the napkin. Somehow I didn’t save said picture in any of my many inspiration folders that I have. Fail.

It looked something like this…

Relocating for Love

January 19th, 2012 @ 12:05 pm by Miss Petit Four

After talking about the whole shacking up deal, I got to thinking about one of the main reasons we started living together.

Mr. PF is from Austin and I’m from San Antonio and we met somewhere in between. I ended up moving to Austin first to be with him, but we didn’t live in the same abode. After living in Austin for about a year or so, I realized that I really missed being home and I told Mr. PF that I would be moving back to San Antonio at the end of my lease.

It’s funny because I didn’t really think about it as leaving him, but I thought of it more as going home to be with my family. Since Mr. PF couldn’t resist my charms, he surprised me by telling me that he wanted to move with me!

Shacking Up

January 11th, 2012 @ 6:34 am by Miss Petit Four

Mr. PF and I have been living together for three out of the five  years of our relationship. I can honestly say that when we first moved in together, I didn’t have marriage anywhere on my mind.

I know a lot of people have rules about at least being engaged before they move in with their man, but a lot of my friends were living with their guys and I didn’t really see anything wrong with it. At the time, it was the right thing for us to do. We were both relocating from Austin and it just didn’t make sense for us to be in a serious relationship and living in separate spots in a new city.

I was chatting with one of my friends the other day and she was telling me about how she and her fiance have never lived together and how she feels like she is doing something wrong. She had been getting a lot of bad feedback about how she will be in for a rude awakening when they start living together, but I actually really admire the way she is going about things. She and her FI love each other very much and they obviously know that marriage is hard, but they are confident in their love to make it through the hard times whether they have lived together before or not.

Back in the day, that’s the way people did things.

San Antonio is a really fun place to have a honeymoon, or even a mini-moon for all the Texas bees out there. The sun is always shining and the people are always smiling. The weather is great most of the year, but it can get REALLY hot during the summer, so make sure to pack your swimsuit if you’re going to travel then. Mr. PF and I love to play tourist in our own city, but if we were going to do it up big, this is what we would do…

Budget Smudget

January 6th, 2012 @ 9:56 am by Miss Petit Four

Now that we are about two months away from the wedding, the reality of how much we are spending is finally starting to sink it.

Eight months ago, $2500 did seem so bad for photography. Now that we have to pay it, I’m in full-on freak-out mode.

My parents have been very gracious and have offered to pay for most of the wedding, but even though it’s someone else’s money, I can’t help but think of all the other things we could use it on.

Most people I have asked have been in favor of having the wedding of our dreams. After all, it only happens once, right?

After the party it’s the after-party, right? The after-party is something that I have been torn about during the whole planning process. At my best friend’s wedding, the groom’s parents rented a party bus for after the wedding, and let me tell you, it was SO. MUCH. FUN.

You Don't Have to Go Home, But You Can't Stay Here. : wedding isla mujeres 66052 8

Here we are on the party bus. It came complete with a fully stocked bar and there may  or may not have been a stripper pole. The only thing I didn’t like about the party bus was that the bride and groom weren’t there. I’m sure they were tired and wanted to get back to their hotel room, but it would have been really fun to have them there with us.
