Piglets in Paradise: The Boys

February 10th, 2010 @ 8:37 am by Mrs. Piglet

While us girls were getting ready at the hotel closer to the ceremony site, the boys were back in Waikiki at the Westin Moana Surfrider. Mr Piglet spent his last night of singledom with his two little brothers and his best man. It was low key according to the Mr, but I’m sure they squeezed in a few celebratory glasses of scotch with friends also staying at the hotel.

The day kicked off at 8 for the boys. When his groomsmen arrived, Mr Piglet welcomed them with a bouncy hug much like I did with my girls. Heehee, kidding. I think they did some macho handshake, chest bump, and man hug… likely followed by, “Dude, you ready?”

As the boys settled in, Mr Piglet stepped onto the balcony, which extended over the ocean, and was greeted with this view. A wedding in Hawaii/rainbow shot over the ocean… real original! But beautiful, nonetheless. :D

Piglets in Paradise: Girl Bonding

February 2nd, 2010 @ 6:29 pm by Mrs. Piglet

I’m gettin’ marrrrrrrrrrried. I’m gettin’ marrrrrrrrrried! *cabbage patch dance* I hopped out of bed at 5:30 in the morning to prep the room for the girls’ arrival at 6 (bless their hearts for being morning troopers). In hopes of beating the heat, Mr Piglet and I scheduled our morning ceremony at 11 am. I booked Dorys Foltin for my pretty ladies, and with 6 of us, we needed a couple hours to get our hair did and faces on.

Dorys and her assistant knocked on the door promptly at 6. The girls came minutes after. After a quick bouncy hug, the girls took their seats and Dorys went to town.

As I watched them work their magic, I was sort of in a daze, still a bundle of nerves. To calm me down, I would occasionally walk onto the balcony to breathe in the fresh ocean air, eat my breakfast burrito from (none other than) Zippy’s, and soak in the beautiful view.

Piglets in Paradise: The Wedding Kick Off

January 27th, 2010 @ 6:34 pm by Mrs. Piglet

It was time to kick off the celebration! We invited all of our OOT guests and my Pop’s bruddahs to join us for our quasi-rehearsal dinner. Quasi, because the wedding rehearsal was scheduled for the following day, and our wedding the day after. Moving the rehearsal dinner up a day was a tactical move on our part. We wanted our friends to get loose and enjoy themselves without worrying about headaches, oversleeping, cravings for pho (best cure for hangovers), etc. on the day of the wedding. They had all day Friday for some R & R. Yup, our friends can definitely throw back a few. :P

We hosted our dinner at Tiki’s Grill & Bar in Waikiki. Wanting something private, we chose the Coconut Club room. It’s on the top floor of the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel, and it has a lanai (Hawaiian for patio) big enough to seat our 60 or so guests. The room itself isn’t all that special, but the sunset view from the lanai was priceless. It was seriously postcard worthy.

We were running a bit late, but thanks to island time, our late was actually early. Our friend, Dan, was the last to arrive. He snapped this photo of us greeting him at the door, and apologized for being late. The waves kept calling to him. Late because of surfing, haha! I love Hawaii.

About Mrs. Piglet

After dropping off the OOT bags, my sister and I went back to our hotel, woke up Mr Piglet, and headed out the door to start on our long list of to dos. First on the list, eat. My sister is happy so long as her stomach is full. Happy sister equals happy Piglet. I love her company, and wanted her with me for as long as she could bear it. So Zippy’s had become a part of our daily routine: spam and eggs, and a huge ass cup of java. :D

About Mrs. Piglet

A lot of our friends were coming a week before the wedding to beach, surf, and play. Before they arrived at their hotel, we wanted to drop-off a little welcome gift. Everyone loves a welcome gift – be it cookies, a fresh towel, or a refreshing cocktail. I know I do!

In our RSVP cards, we asked that our friends let us know where they were staying. Armed with this info, my sister and I headed to Waikiki at 5:30 in the morning (to avoid traffic and easily park on the street) and delivered the goods. I love her. Mr Piglet was sleeping. I still love him, too.

Looky here, that’s us on our wedding day in Hawaii. Has it really been five months?! Is it odd that I’m grinning from ear-to-ear writing this?

A decent amount has happened since then. We’ve finally settled into our cozy apartment near the beach. I quit my job as a consultant, and now work alongside Mr Piglet doing fashion wholesale.

Japanese Stab Binding

July 22nd, 2009 @ 4:03 pm by Mrs. Piglet

After printing and cutting the cardstock for our programs, the lingering question was how we would bind it all together. Initially, we were going to punch an eyelet in the corner to allow the sheets to cascade out and act as a fan, but… I dunno… I just changed my mind. I’m sick of eyelets (kinda sorta). These days, I can’t take a step in the apartment without finding an eyelet stuck to the bottom of my foot, and that bugs me to no end! My hand is a bit cramped, too.

Since we’re short on time, I would’ve been content with ribbon holding it all together, but a YouTube tutorial on Japanese stab binding kept creeping into my head. I first discovered it when looking for invitation ideas. At the time, my obsession was booklet-style invitations. But since we never went down the booklet route, I dismissed the idea altogether. Now, with our programs totaling 7 pages, this idea was perfect.

The tutorial itself is a very basic technique. But if you’re looking for a more intricate design, it can be done!

Kick Off Your Heels

July 20th, 2009 @ 5:00 pm by Mrs. Piglet

Lots of progress this past weekend! We are under the gun to ship things out today or tomorrow so that our boxes are there by the time we arrive. Utter pandemonium best describes the Piglet household. Up until this past month, the Mr and I usually tackled weekend wedding tasks together whether it be shopping, DIY projects, meals, etc. But alas, this is a luxury we can no longer afford. The divide and conquer approach is the name of the game.

And it’s paying off. Our first box is out the door!

Ceremony Aesthetics

July 16th, 2009 @ 6:32 pm by Mrs. Piglet

We’ve been working with Yvonne and Ally from Yvonne Design on our floral and reception decor. Unlike our fabulous Mrs. Latte, I lack the flower gene. I deserve a slap on the wrist, because I was one of those brides that came empty-handed for our first flower consult. After hanging up the phone, I promised to send inspirational photos of what I envisioned for our wedding. And I did… 3 months later. :) See? Very bad.

We’re taking a minimalist approach to the ceremony. We ordered nothing but bouquets, boutonnieres, and a wedding arch. See those flower adornments on the arch? Take those out, and that’s what we’re getting. Seriously, though, how much decor is needed when you’re in Hawaii?

Ceremony Aesthetics : wedding ceremony decor Arch arch

This will be the first visit to Hawaii for many of our out-of-town guests. For this reason, we wanted a tropical feel for our floral selections.

I am over the moon with excitement that we are finally done with the Piglet men’s attire! We nixed khaki suits as an option months ago, and decided on gray for both Mr Piglet and his fellas. With the ladies in yellow, the groomsmen will be donning yellow ties with cute little palm trees (in blue!). I know, I know… it’s spot on for our tropical wedding!

Organza Embellishments

July 2nd, 2009 @ 9:29 am by Mrs. Piglet

The gifts for my birdies needed some sprucin’ up. I’ll have to share what the actual gifts are in a later post when the girls are in Hawaii. They don’t have the self control to resist peeking on here… nor would I! :D

After hopping from one blog to the next, I came across Reese Dixon’s tutorial on DIY organza flowers. Perfecto! This floral embellishment was just what I was looking for to ‘pretty-up’ the gifts. I took a stab at it yesterday, and this project is a cinch!

All you need is:

  • organza fabric (petals)
  • beads (stamen)
  • candle (wilt the petals)
  • needle and thread
