Making Up is Hard to Do

September 11th, 2008 @ 6:25 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

I have been painting since I was 5 years old, but hand me a makeup brush and I freeze. Invitations, aisle runner, centerpieces, programs, guest book? No Problem. I just try to DIY almost any project I can imagine. Makeup? No thank you.

Saturday morning, before the bridal shower and bachelorette party, I will be going for my hair and makeup trial. I am not sure where to begin when asked what kind of look I am hoping for. Here are some photos I collected from ProjectWedding.com. I think these ladies are hot and I am hoping it is partly because of their makeup, and I can have a bit of their hotness.

1 Little, 2 Little, 36 Little Wedding Cakes

September 11th, 2008 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Pineapple

Since Sister Pineapple (my Maid of Honor) lives in New York, Mom Pineapple and I are giving her a hand by doing some of the bridal shower projects she had originally planned to do when she got here. One of which is the one I had heard whispers about a couple months ago: a wedding cake decorating contest! I know that games are usually a surprise, but I am glad to help my sister out. I can’t imagine her doing everything the night before the shower.

Thank You! Already!

September 9th, 2008 @ 9:29 am by Mrs. Pineapple

It’s five weeks before the wedding and we have already received three gifts! They are all very thoughtful, and we knew that we needed to get our thank you cards made, or Emily Post would find a way to track us down and haunt our dreams of wedded bliss.

We wanted to make something clean and simple that would fit in with the look of our invitations. So, using the copper paper and typeface from the invites, Mom Pineapple and I made these:

If you are new to DIY stationary and want to make your own invites, I think that making your own thank yous is a great place to start.

Wined and Dyed

September 8th, 2008 @ 10:25 am by Mrs. Pineapple

A little while back I asked for the hive’s help in trying to decide what color to dye my crinoline/slip. After reading your suggestions to dye it yellow or orange as a nod to my pineappleyness, I thought it would be funny if I tie-dyed it like this:

It’s a pineapple!

However, when I saw Miss Avocado’s post about helping her friend dye her crinoline, I fell in love with the wine color. I thought it would look just oh so pretty with the color of my gown. Plus, trying to dye my crinoline like a fruit could have been a nightmare.

Yesterday I had scheduled what was hopefully to be my final fitting at David’s Bridal. You may remember it have been a bit of a prickly journey. Dress shopping was great! My first fitting was extremely traumatic. My second fitting was such a relief. And my fitting yesterday?

Perfect.

Okay Mr. Pineapple, no reading beyond this point…

A Something Old; What to Do

September 2nd, 2008 @ 2:40 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

When my parents were married in 1980, my mother borrowed her sister’s gown and they had a pot luck reception at the local church. My mother’s “something new” was her veil. 28 years later my mother has offered her something new as my something old. I already have and love my veil, so how should I use hers?

We would like to make more than one piece from the veil so my sister can have a something old for her wedding day. We have thought about making it into handkerchiefs or wrapping my bouquet handle, but we just are not in love with those ideas. What do you creative readers think?

Roll In the Reinforcements

August 29th, 2008 @ 4:10 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

Yesterday I mentioned that my wedding nap was over and I would soon be getting some help. Well, help has arrived!

Dad, Mom and Oliver (check out that crazy lamp and pair of rain boots!)

My mother wanted to come to Pennsylvania a week or so before my shower to help my sister and my bridesmaid. She also wanted to come a week or so before the wedding to help us finish any last minute projects.

take a nap.

This is advice my mom, somewhat jokingly, gave me growing up. (Along with “you don’t have to be hungry to eat” and when dad asked for some single dollar bills to “always trade up.”) Well, aside from mailing the invites and a first/first and a half dress fitting, the last couple months I have taken a much needed wedding nap.

My to do list, which I should really write down, is a mental mile long. There are so many things I haven’t even thought about. There are even guests that I didn’t know about.

The good news? I am finally starting to go through wedding withdrawal. I went from planning overload to missing all the little projects. I am itching to get started on programs and the favor scarves. The even better news? Only 200 miles away from me (and closing!) the reinforcements are rolling in! (More on that tomorrow.) The next 51 days are going to wedding packed and fabulous!

Did anyone else have to take a wedding nap to get their second wind?

And They’re Off!

August 21st, 2008 @ 2:28 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

After almost 3 hours of writing our new address on response envelopes (and spelling my own name wrong about 20% of the time) I was ready to invite our loved ones to the wedding!

This was a big day for the Pineapples, a big day at a teeny tiny post office.

Brush Valley Post Office complete with Amish Buggy Crossing sign

When stuffing the envelopes earlier I couldn’t actually do any stuffing. I had forgotten to get stamps for the reply envelopes, oops! So, instead I organized the contents. To avoid any confusion about who was invited and to make sure no one forgot to write their name(s) on the reply, I wrote them in ahead of time. Once I was at the post office I added the stamp to the reply envelope and doubled checked that the reply card and outer envelope belonged to the same guests.

Hair Doing

August 20th, 2008 @ 11:57 am by Mrs. Pineapple

So finally after 18 months I have made an appointment to get my hair cut, colored (back to brown) and have my trial. I scheduled my appointment for the morning of my shower so I have a reason to have fancy hair. I am going to wear my hair down or down-ish. When I have my hair up, I feel really young and not pretty so that much was easy to decide. Here are some styles I am considering:
