About Mrs. Pineapple

When I was a teenager I had some weird passions. I never spent a day of my life on a sports team. I wasn’t particularly interested in school politics. And I quit my first job at Target so I could spend more time (not getting paid, but working longer hours) as a Girl Scout leader.

My biggest passion as a teenager was blood donation. For my 17th birthday I organized a blood drive birthday party. I made invitations and used my door-to-door cookie salesperson skills to invite the whole neighborhood. It turned into a huge bash with two blood mobiles and dozens of donors I had never met. After that I was inspired to keep trying to recruit donors and in college created a group called Carnegie Mellon Life Savers.

My sister called me last fall because she wanted to pick my brain about a new design project. The brief for this project was to design something to touch the hearts of people in a community of her choosing. Of course, I suggested she try to do something for blood donors. She made sixty fleece scarves embroidered with abstract blood related designs and a “Blood Donors Warm Hearts” tag.

The Bridal Party: An Introduction

July 2nd, 2008 @ 10:25 am by Mrs. Pineapple

You all know what their dresses will look like (well sort of - you know as much as I do, they will be black). And you know they live all over the country. However, that’s it. That is all you know about the lovely ladies who are so important to me that I couldn’t imagine getting married without them by my side. These women are much more important to me than invitations or cake so here is a proper introduction (in order of life appearances).

First off we have my maid of honor and big sister (but she is actually littler), Kristina
Krissy and I in New York the night before Mr. P proposed, Krissy out and about, the 3 Pineapple kids - my sister is on the right

About Mrs. Pineapple

Okay, I’m going to flat out say it: you should read this book. Hana Schank writes about planning her own wedding and in the process really puts a lot into perspective. Her writing is quick witted and honest. She describes everything from searching, to the dress, to dealing with family drama. It is refreshing to read such honesty about guest list tug-of-wars and trying to hold your own against the wedding industry. Read more…

Multiple Minimoons

June 30th, 2008 @ 11:57 am by Mrs. Pineapple

Mr. Pineapple and I would love to go to Ireland for our honeymoon. We looked into several different trips to the emerald isle, but in the end decided to skip the honeymoon for the time being. Hopefully, next summer we will have enough saved for the trip or maybe next year we will buy a house. Either way, we’ll make it there eventually. We do want to do something after the wedding. Just to get away and be together for a couple of days. I know many couple do it, but I couldn’t imagine getting married on Saturday and going to work on Monday. So, Mr. Pineapple and I are going on a couple of mini-moons.

The first stop: Cleveland. That’s right, tropical and exotic Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland is just a hop, skip and a jump from Pittsburgh so it would be an easy get away. Mr. P and I love to watch Iron Chef America and their new chef Michael Symon. Symon owns two restaurants in Cleveland, Lola and Lolita. Dinner at one of the two locations was the starting point of our planning. For the rest of our plans we will scope out some of Mrs. Dahlia’s recommendations.

About Mrs. Pineapple

With surgery approaching I assumed that I would have a lot of free time to lay around and not move my right arm. So, I decided to look for some new reading material. Since I love reading wedding blogs so much I thought that wedding memoirs would be right up my alley. I searched amazon and ordered two, both were less than $1.50, brand new from the “used” books section. This is probably the only time in my life I could really relate to the authors and possibly get some insight as well.

The first to arrive was “The Toaster Broke, So We’re Getting Married.” It was short and sweet with a bright pink cover, fun right?

I LOL’d For Real

June 24th, 2008 @ 12:20 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

I mentioned in my life goes on post that Mr. Pineapple recently landed his dream job. One of the reasons he wanted this job so badly was the community in which he would be working. He is an alum of the Honors College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and now he is also the assistant director. The students that Mr. Pineapple works with knew he was engaged, but it wasn’t until they stumbled upon his facebook profile that they also discovered he has a secret life, where he was known solely as a sweet and tart, prickly fruit.

At the end of the day yesterday a group of students presented him with a welcome gift, a nameplate for his desk:

It is Just a Wedding.

June 19th, 2008 @ 12:37 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

That’s right, I said it. Just.

Just a wedding.

Not the “most important day of our lives,” not our “big day,” not an extravagant party where we have to please everyone. It is just a wedding.

When it comes to planning our wedding I have asked for little advice from our friends and family. When I come up with an idea about a detail our of wedding I share it with Mr. Pineapple and he generally has one of two responses “sure, great!” or “yeah, I don’t think so.” It is a pretty simple system. This method works for us, because I get to be swept up in all the little details that I think are great fun and Mr. Pineapple doesn’t get overwhelmed with 10,000 typefaces.

The Big Picture

June 18th, 2008 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Pineapple

I have shared with you a lot of the little details of our wedding, but have yet to give any sort of “big picture” visual. What better way to do so than to create one of the ever so popular inspiration boards. (I guess a few of the images below are no longer inspiration since they have been created and/or paid for.)

If You Give a Guest a Cookie

June 17th, 2008 @ 8:23 am by Mrs. Pineapple

When Mr. Pineapple and I visited our first venue, the hostess kept mentioning wonderful places to put our cookie table. Our cookie table? Weddings have cookie tables?
