When I was told that we’d be running a new bee feature here on Weddingbee where we’d share random pictures from our weddings that y’all might not normally see, I knew I wanted to participate. I was really surprised by how ten randomly chosen photos could really tell the story of our wedding. I just finished up my recaps this past summer, but there are definitely some photos in here I didn’t share with y’all. And in case you don’t remember, Mr. Plaid and I got married in October 2010 in Austin and celebrated with a very casual affair.
This first picture is one of the small favors I made for guests. Wildflowers are huge in Austin so I crafted these seed matchbooks I found from Martha Stewart.
We chose to include a handfasting ceremony in which we “tied the knot” with the help of our moms.

I think I’ve put this off long enough, but today’s the day I wave goodbye to the Hive. Not for forever, but for now. My wedding’s over and I finally finished my recaps. It only took me a little over 7 months. And now we’ve got another life event to look forward to: the arrival of our son sometime this month!

I decided to show y’all all the details of our programs since some of you were asking. They were definitely one of the most involved projects I took on, but probably the one I was most proud of.
I started by scoping out other people’s programs to see what they included in their programs. I love you Google search! When researching I fell in love with two types of programs: the booklet and the fan. So what’s an over-achieving DIY addict to do? Combine both ideas, of course!
I started with blue and yellow card stock. I cut them to size and used a crease-r to make the program cover.

As y’all know I got bit by the DIY wedding bug big time. I want to share some of my finished projects and details that I wrote about during the planning process. I hope this inspires y’all to try some DIY too because I had a blast with each of these projects!

As the evening was coming to a close, we danced one more dance to Last Dance by Donna Summer and then it was time for the guests to head out to the front of the house for our sparkler send-off.
When Mr. P and I exited the front door the house to descend the stairs we were met by a cloud of smoke. Apparently the wind that had died down shortly before our ceremony decided to return making for a very smoky exit, instead of the expected sparkly exit. Read more…

I told y’all about the sweet deal my photographer gave us and how he surprised us about a month before the wedding offering to through a photobooth in for free. Some of the best pics of the whole night were taken in this photobooth.
We chose to stick with a simple bright yellow backdrop and between our photographer and us, we provided guests with lots of props: glasses, hats, feather boas, foam fingers, chalkboard signs, burritos, and lots more.

I told Mr. P from the beginning that once the dance music started I wasn’t leaving the dance floor. I kept to my word, except for a couple quick trips to the bar to grab another beer. It wasn’t a huge dance party by any means, but I had a blast and those that stayed out there with me were awesome. And my mom and step dad danced to every single song. They were freakin’ all-stars! Mr. P even made it out there more than I expected!
I believe this a very passionate singing of “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks.

I figure we’ll start off with the special dances and then move into the dancing free-for-all that ensued.
I knew I wanted to do something special for my dad, but I also knew that I didn’t want our dance to be a traditional father-daughter slow dance. Growing up my dad, big sis and I always listened to oldies and one oldie in particular: Do Wah Diddy by Manfred Mann. We even had individual singing parts for the song. I decided this was the perfect father-daughters dance. I invited my sister to join us on the dance floor.

As y’all might recall, I decided from the very start that I would be making myownweddingcake. I’ve been dreading writing this post ever since. Unfortunately, our cake did not turn out the way I’d hoped.
I think I just over thought the design and didn’t anticipate how muggy it would be in late October in Texas outside. Don’t get me wrong, it tasted delicious. However, the actual look of the cake left a little to be desired. It started melting. I was going for simple and sparkly. Instead I got drippy and sticky. And sadly, I’ve been beating myself up over this ever since our wedding day. I kept seeing the wedding as my one opportunity to prove to my family and friends that I could succeed as a cake designer. Unfortunately, in my eyes I failed.

It’s food time y’all! We opted to keep our reception simple and laid-back by having a customizable burrito bar provided by Freebirds. Let me tell you, they did an awesome job. It was freakin’ delicious!!!

We wanted something upbeat to walk into the reception to and I sure do love me some Aerosmith, so Walk This Way was an easy choice. Our wedding party strutted their stuff into the reception and we quickly followed behind them and took our place on the dance floor for our first dance.

I’m sorry I haven’t been back in so long (I can’t believe three months have gone by…)—I’ve been busy working on My New Project. But I’m back now and ready to write some recaps!
When we left off, Mr. P and I had just walked up the aisle after the official husband and wife announcement.
After we made our way up the aisle we were definitely ready to get our celebration on. And what does a girl need to kick off an epic celebration? Party shoes, of course. I, like Mrs. Cardigan, traded in my gorgeous heels for a pair of wonderfully comfy Converses. And I couldn’t resist taking them for a spin. Read more…

I want to explain to y’all why my recaps have been so touch and go lately. A couple days before our wedding my husband jokingly said to me, “Once this wedding’s over what’s gonna be your next project? A baby?” I’m definitely one of those people that always has to have a project or I’m just flat out bored all the time and it’s just miserable. Ask my husband.
Apparently my husband is telepathic or something, because guess what, Hive? I’m pregnant! That’s right, less than two weeks after our wedding I found out I was pregnant. When we’d talked about having kids before we got married, my husband and I agreed that after the wedding we’d just stop trying to prevent a pregnancy. We figured we’d have some time for my body to transition from being on birth control back to normal before we’d even have to consider the possibility of a pregnancy. Read more…

I want to start out by giving our officiant, our friend Guy, a huge shout-out. He worked very hard to write our beautiful ceremony and it was perfect.
Now I’m just going to let the ceremony words do the talking. It’s going to be quite a bit of text, so if you don’t want to read it, just scroll through the pictures.
