I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married.
Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.

Mr P and I love to dance, especially at wedding receptions. We burned up the dance floor at our wedding reception in Seattle and absolutely loved our band. I was looking forward to having a DJ at our Midwest party because that meant a wider range of music. Read more…

I had no sooner put the finishing touches on the details and on my makeup when guests started to arrive. Mr P has a huge family, many of who we hadn’t seen since the prior Christmas, and we hadn’t seen my dad’s family for longer than that. The beginning of the reception was a whirlwind of hugs and hellos.

About a month ago I celebrated my two year anniversary as a Weddingbee blogger. I figured since the one year anniversary of our hometown reception is just days away that now would be the perfect time to wrap things up.
Our Seattle wedding and reception in July 2010 was amazing and we were blessed to also be able to have a second reception November 2010 in my husband’s hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana. My mother-in-law was an indispensable partner in planning the party. The days leading up to the party she helped me craft silk flower arrangements and put together the centerpieces. Fellow bee and dear friend Mrs Bunny drove in from Ohio to photograph the event. All images courtesy of Lisa Rice Photography, unless otherwise noted.
The party was the day after Thanksgiving at Ceruti’s Diamond Room. Our guests were welcomed by this decidedly “Pretzel” sign. Because I wasn’t a bride—we’d been married four months already—I had no qualms about doing the set up myself with help from Mr P and my in-laws. Of course this meant running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get ready at the last-minute, but whatever. It made me appreciate my amazing DOC from the Seattle wedding even more. All of the little details came together so nicely. Read more…

Hiya! Just popping my head back in to share a really great experience that I had at a last-minute backyard wedding a couple of months ago. I realized how much society is wrapped up in the idea that weddings take a long time to plan and cost a lot of money when I had the privilege of attending a wedding that was planned in just a few weeks time, was inexpensive, and was full of love and joy.
It started when my husband’s coworker, Jamie, asked him if we were doing anything on August 20th. He replied that we weren’t and Jamie said, “Dru and I are getting married, we’d like you to come.”
A bit of back story: Dru and Jamie had been together for close to 10 years. He had asked her to marry him a few times and she had said no each time until this summer when she looked at him and said, “let’s get married.”
He got our mailing address and a few days later, a nice homemade invitation arrived. Read more…

Hi there! I know I said I was going to take the summer off of wedding blogging but I wanted to share some recent successes that Mr P have achieved. Mr Pretzel and I recently lost some weight together and it got me thinking: Why didn’t we do this before the wedding?
Before the wedding, both Mr P and I were about 20 lbs heavier than our ideal. We had both gained the weight during our courtship due to our mutual love of beer and cooking. We ate healthy, but our portion sizes were a bit too big and our activity level dropped the year that we were planning the wedding. I was worried about juggling a diet, workout routine, and wedding planning on top of our already busy lives so I made a decision for myself and ultimately for both of us: no trying to lose weight before the wedding.
After the wedding our busy lives continued to be busy. We cooked a lot of yummy meals in our first 6 months and then slowly we started to eat out more and cooking less. Soon another 10 lbs had crept up. I was the heaviest I had ever been and I did not like the way I felt.

I love when bees compare their inspiration boards to the real wedding. It is fun to see how inspiration changes over time and how things are executed. It was a lot of fun to look back at my first inspiration board and see how our wedding stacked up.

As I am wrapping up the last posts of Twisted Together: Pretzel Recaps, I keep finding detail photos that I hadn’t worked into our story. Detail photos are one of my favorite parts of wedding photos and it became clear that I would need to do a detail post to catch some of the fun touches and elements of our wedding.

After our photographers left the party just kept going. The dance floor got crowded, the band was rockin’ and our ushers decided to create a little mischief with a shirts-off-dance-off. Yes you read that right—a shirts-off dance-off. I kinda knew this might happen and I blogged about it in January 2010. Read more…

I know what you are thinking… “It’s garter time!” Except we weren’t doing a garter toss. Sure, I rigged up a bouquet toss for my cousin but i couldn’t produce a garter out of thin air. So why was I sitting on a chair in the middle of the dance floor? Read more…

I would like to take a scheduled break from Pretzel Recaps for a little tutorial on how to deal with wedding crashers. Before our wedding I did have some fears about crashers. We had an unfortunate situation where a messy divorce caused us to not invite a couple people after they had already received save the dates (horrible I know…). I was afraid that the man in the relationship might show up and cause a scene (he has a history for being a loose cannon and can do and say some pretty outrageous things). Thankfully our awesome ushers promised to play double duty and serve as “bouncers” if this person showed up. I am happy to report that he stayed at home and didn’t cause a problem.
What about crashers that you don’t know? The random guy stumbling upon your reception and joining in the fun? How would you feel about that? Some bees have invited the crashers to join the party and had a blast. In my last post Mr P and I were curious about the Punk concert going on across the street from our venue so we went over and visited—I guess you could say that we “crashed.” Apparently some folks in the area were curious about our party too and came to check it out. Can you really blame them? Our band was rockin’!

I heart my family. My uncles kept a vigilant eye out during the reception, when there were people walking around our cars in the parking lot they moved outside and kept an eye on things, and when Mr P and I snuck off with some mohawked character they concerned. So when the two guys pictured above showed up at the bar, they were concerned. Read more…

The day of our wedding was particularly warm. As such, it required that we take little breaks from the busy dance floor to cool down outside. Our photographer caught some great candid shots of the boys and girls on the steps.

We had no plans to do a bouquet or garter toss. At 32 yrs old I was the last of my friends to get married. There was only a small handful of unwed women at our wedding and I figured it was just easier to skip this tradition.
My family had other ideas. Meet my cousin M and his girlfriend A. Aren’t they absolutely adorable? Soon after dinner was served my cousin M approached me to inquire when the bouquet toss would be. He wanted to make sure that his girlfriend caught the bouquet. I told him that we weren’t doing a toss but this information didn’t compute. Not doing a toss? Unbelievable. Read more…

Cuppy cakes! I’ve heard stories about kids (and adults) stealing cupcakes off of the table before the bride and groom have a chance to “cut the cake.” Thankfully our guests were quite restrained. I’m not sure how they managed to do it; look at that cupcake goodness.
Rhienn at Look Cupcake! did a fabulous (and yummy) job.
