Weddingbee

Okay, maybe they aren’t exactly tied up with string but getting packages in the mail is definitely one of my favourite things! Our apothecary jars for the refreshment table at the ceremony finally came yesterday. One thing that I don’t like about our ceremony site is that because the ferry can only take 20 people at a time and it takes about 12 minutes per trip to take people to the island, we have to ask some of our guests to arrive very early for the wedding. So, we are trying to make the island as comfortable as possible while those guests wait. One of the things that we are doing to make it a nicer wait is a refreshment table with juice and maybe some appetizers.

We ordered these jars on ebay (a great seller who runs the following store), and since they are so heavy we had to go with the slowest shipping option to keep it as cheap as possible. So I have been waiting a LONG time for these babies. Consequently, the day after I ordered them I found some similar jars at Home Outfitters (isn’t that always the way?), but these were worth the wait - they are exactly what I wanted. Our wedding cake is being made for us by my sister-in law’s Mom. She has done wedding cakes for years and always does a really good job, so I was ecstatic when she offered to do ours. Our original plan was to use the following picture as the inspiration, but to have the middle two layers be styrofoam iced to match the two real layers.

I just wanted the top layer to freeze for our 1st anniversary, and then the bottom layer for the obligatory cake cutting with the obligatory cake cutting pictures.

Whew! Last Thursday was my last day of law school! I can’t believe that 3 years has gone by so quickly. It seems like yesterday when I walked into the College of Law, scared that I couldn’t do it, scared that I wasn’t smart enough, scared that no one would like me, and now here I am, 3 finals away from an LL.B.! I still can’t wrap my brain around that.

What does this have to do with wedding planning you ask? A lot! Not only am I 3 finals away from an LL.B., but that means that I am 3 finals away from full time wedding planning! All of those red exclamation marks screaming at me on The Knot will finally get taken care of. Not that I have really stopped planning, I just haven’t been able to blog recently because I was writing my last paper (a 50 pager no less!) and was sick of looking at my trusty laptop. But, we’ve made up and are best friends again so here are some pictures of the signs we are going to use for the wedding:

Thank you so much for all of your warm welcome wishes! I am so excited to be a part of the Weddingbee community and I hope that you find my blogging to be interesting, thought provoking, helpful and above all entertaining!

One thing that I have realized while planning my wedding is that I may be in a very different place with very different options, but the basic ideas are the same. So even though I know that 99.99% of you will never even visit Regina (although you should, it really is a pretty and very friendly city!), hopefully some of my DIY and more universal ideas and advice will still help you!

Now, to answer Iris’s question on why I chose a pumpkin as my character, you may know that 2007 is the year of the Veggies on Weddingbee. So I chose pumpkin from the list of possible vegetables because I think it is a cute name, my body sort of resembles a pumpkin and I was very close to having a fall pumpkin themed wedding - so it seemed appropriate.
