The majority of weddings that I have attended have all been open seating kinds of events, where guests sat wherever they wanted. So when we were planning our wedding, we decided to kick it up a notch and have assigned seating. This meant that we needed escort cards which in turn lead to an escort card display! I had already pulled this picture out of MS Weddings because of the centerpieces shown on the bottom of the page, so when we decided to do assigned seating, I knew exactly where to look for an escort card display.
I am still not sure how comfortable I am giving out the entire details of our budget, but I’m going to do it anyway because I am almost certain that no one who would care (except our photographer) knows that I blog on Weddingbee. It seems to be of interest to the WB readers, and so hopefully by posting this, I will be helping someone else plan their wedding.
So, here it is kids! The first ever Canadian bee budget. Since our dollar is doing so well lately, these figures are pretty comparable with the US prices. But please do keep in mind that all of my figures are in Canadian funds, and that some items were purchased as far away as one year ago (so the exchange may be a bit funky).

One of the best parts of coming home from our honeymoon, besides sleeping in our own bed and having clean laundry again, was that we finally got to open our wedding gifts! What wonderful, thoughtful, and generous friends and family we have! We were given so many lovely gifts, but three that stood out for us are a quilt, our wedding invitation framed for us, and a bottle of Dom Perignon! Check these out:
This quilt was made by my BFF’s mom for us. It is so beautiful, and I can’t believe that she went to that much trouble for us! She even matched it to our invites!
We are having a fantastic time in Italy! Venice was amazing and now we’re in Florence. I’ve seen enough old men in Speedos to last me a lifetime and there are a lot of mullets around Italy. I don’t know if they are local mullets or tourist mullets but regardless, they are here! Our Airmiles hotels have been incredible and I will have lots of pictures to show you when we return. Hi again! It is raining here in Amsterdam so I had a few minutes to chat! We have already been to London and Dusseldorf and are in Amsterdam until morning when we will take the train to Paris. We are having a wonderful time so far and it is so much fun telling people that we are honeymooning and saying “My husband…” whenever possible. Our hotels have been fantastic. I especially love the European beds with the two separate long and narrow blankets so that you can snuggle and then when you eventually fall asleep and roll away from one another, no one is stealing the others blankets!! Mr. Pumpkin and I are both notorious blanket stealers so we are considering doing this at home too!)
Anyhow, since I have some time I thought I would give you a more detailed description of the wedding! Mr. Pumpkin’s ankle held up fairly well! (Thanks for asking) He had gotten a boot type thing earlier in the week and so he started putting a little weight on it on Thursday. He walked down the aisle unassisted and we had our first dance without anyone being the wiser! After the first dance though the boot went back on.

The wedding went really well (I will write a more detailed account when I get back from honeymooning) and so far, London is fantastic! Mr. Pumpkin and I inadvertently spent some time in The Azure House, an Indian brothel, last night while waiting for a cab, but other than that the traveling has gone really well. 
I just thought that I would check in and let you know that I haven’t forgotten you all now that I am married! (So fun to say that!) I was hoping to be able to post a teaser picture at least but the cafe won’t let me upload anything so you’ll have to wait a couple of weeks for that. Okay Weddingbees! I need your help. Here’s the situation - my parents went away on a weeks vacation and they left the keys to the brand new Porsche - would they mind? Hmmmm well, of course not. Just kidding. Sometimes I need a little Fresh Prince in the morning to get me going.
Okay, *here’s* the situation. We are having a day-after brunch at my parents house on Sunday. Mr. Pumpkin and I talked it over and decided that we were not going to open our gifts in front of everyone so that it is a brunch, not a gift opening. The other night we were talking about it with my SIL and she said something like, “Well, of course you’ll have all of your gifts opened and on display then, right?” And I said, “no” to which she replied, “You have to! It is rude not to! People want to see what you got!”
My personal feelings are that it is nobody else’s business what we “got” for wedding gifts. As I have said before, I think comparisons surrounding gifts and money almost always lead to hurt feelings. When I explained this to my SIL she said, “Well then display the gifts without the cards.” Well, what is the point of that? To me that just seems like we are showing off or something. It is all a bit weird, isn’t it? It never once occurred to me that it might be “rude” to not have our gifts be the focus of the brunch. My intentions surrounding the brunch were just to have a more relaxed setting to visit with our friends and family and to thank them once again for coming to the wedding. Read more…
We all know that rain on your wedding day is not ironic (right, Alanis?), it is simply bad luck. Well, that is exactly what Mr. Pumpkin and I have been having this week! On Monday, Mr. P and I were helping my Mom fix and paint her deck, and Mr. P sprained his ankle! Poor Mr. P - he feels so badly about the whole thing. At the moment (three days before the wedding) he still can’t put any weight on it and I don’t foresee that getting much better before Saturday. What to do? I feel as though we’re in the middle of a John Irving novel, as we are just “waiting and seeing”. We go to see the doctor again tomorrow, so if I have time I will post an update for you after that. I spent some time cutting the silk flowers for our centerpieces last night, and then I put everything together to see what a table might look like for the reception dinner.
Isn’t Momma Pumpkin the cutest? This is a pink and brown tiramisu she made for my girls only shower last night. First without and then with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.
Absolutely the most frustrating part of this whole process has been negotiating with Mr. Pumpkin and Momma Pumpkin to try to make everyone happy. I think that we are all pretty clear on the fact that Mr. Pumpkin and I will be making the final decisions and that input is certainly welcome in all areas of planning, but nobody seems able to articulate the reasonings behind their answers to my questions. My problem is particularly with the word “no”.
I loathe the word. I cannot stand it! Well actually, I should rephrase that. I hate the word “no” without any sort of explanation accompanying it. If you are going to say “no” then you had better be able to tell me why. Lately these are the kinds of conversations I have been having:

Me: Hey, what do you think about cutting down the late lunch to only cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries?
Momma: No.
Me: *blank stare for about a minute…* What do you mean “no”?
Momma: I don’t like it
Me: Okay…….., why don’t you like it?
Momma: I don’t know…
Me: Okay! Great! I am going to go jump off the roof now.
I finally painted one of our shepherd’s hooks and got my jars and ribbon out to see what they will look like. Originally we were just going to have the jars hanging on ribbon like so:
My hair trial was so much fun! I do not get my hair done, like, ever, but I really had fun today working out what to do with it for the wedding. As is the case in most situations, it is all about the company you keep–and Grant and I hit it off immediately! We talked politics, we talked celebrities, we talked love stories (both his and mine), we talked travel, we just blathered on and on until we were done and I hardly even noticed that a whole hour had passed!
We started out looking at this picture of me in my dress and decided that my head looked waaaaay too tiny in comparison to the rest of my body when my hair was slicked back like that.
