Rainbow Bride: For Posterity

January 27th, 2011 @ 8:35 am by Mrs. Rainbow

Can I just say I have the best family in the whole wide world? Because I do. Of course, we have our little tiffs here and there, but at the end of the day, they are always there to give me love and support and a shoulder to lean on should I need it. I have a pretty amazing support system. Want to meet them? Of course you do!

Rainbow Bride: Organized Chaos

January 14th, 2011 @ 5:10 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

On the day of our wedding, Mr. Rainbow and I woke up around 7:30. We both lazed in bed for an hour or so, just smiling at each other like idiots and trying to wrap our minds around the fact that it was finally happening. Today was our wedding day. Crazy.

Against my dear mother’s wishes, we spent the night together on New Year’s Eve, woke up together on New Year’s Day, and got ready together at our apartment. She said it was something about bad luck, but I didn’t care. I was finally marrying the man of my dreams, and according to me, there was no such thing as bad anything.

When 10 o’clock rolled around, I went to my regular nail salon and got a mani/pedi. It may be a little odd to get your nails done on the day of your wedding, but let me tell you, having that relaxing few hours was exactly what I needed for the start of a sure-to-be-hectic day. If you’re having a late afternoon wedding, I highly recommend doing this.

Immediately afterward, we went to the reception restaurant and dropped off the flowers, menus, and cake. By the time we got back home around 1 o’clock, it was officially go time!

Rainbow Bride: Happy New Year!

January 13th, 2011 @ 3:21 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

Let the Rainbow recaps commence!

In the days leading up to New Year’s Day, our wedding day, I was surprisingly calm. Looking back, even though there was a lot to be done, I think the fact that I kept crafting to a minimum really helped in maintaining my sanity. Keep this in mind, ambitious DIYers! Sometimes you just have to say “screw it” and let some projects fall to the wayside.

On the morning of New Year’s Eve, my mom’s side of the family came to help me run errands. We picked up the chairs, the cake, and bought flowers. I packaged macarons, made flower arrangements (including my bouquet), and made sure our apartment was somewhat photographer ready. In the afternoon, we had a quick rehearsal. All this on the day before our wedding. I’m not sure how I wasn’t frantic. Maybe it hadn’t hit me yet.

When night fell, Mr. Rainbow and I, along with the rest of the Rainbow clan went and rang in the New Year at a little waterfront restaurant across the street. When the countdown started, I specifically remember thinking, “In ten, nine, eight, seven seconds, today will be my wedding day.”

Be Our Guest!

January 10th, 2011 @ 8:12 am by Mrs. Rainbow

Considering Mr. R and I decided to get married two and a half months before New Year’s Day, I didn’t even entertain the thought of commissioning anyone to do anything for us. I didn’t have time to stress and micromanage, not to mention thinking about the labor and shipping time. No thanks!

Instead I decided to craft our invitations myself. I ordered some Stardream paper and coordinating envelopes online and bought the rest of my supplies at my beloved Michaels. Working off of our new color scheme, I (surprisingly quickly) whipped these up in PowerPoint, had them printed at Kinko’s, and cut and pasted them together. Wanna see?

The Secret Starts.

January 5th, 2011 @ 4:07 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

If you haven’t run across my archives, let me catch you up!

We got engaged, found a location, and chose our color scheme. Then, the drama started to set in. We decided not to have bridesmaids and groomsmen, then we changed the date and decided to have a small wedding. Once word got out that not everyone in the whole wide world would not be invited to our wedding, the shit officially hit the fan. There was a constant influx of crazy family drama which ultimately led to us cancelling the whole damn thing back in March.

Best of the ‘Bee - Ace your Face (Pt. 1)

November 19th, 2010 @ 9:11 am by Mrs. Rainbow

My favorite would have to be my “flawless foundation” tutorial.

I know this post helped so many ladies when it first went live, so I’d love to re-share it with the new members of the hive that may not have seen it!

~~~
Miss Rainbow here, reporting for duty.
It’s tutorial time, yet again! We’ve talked lashes, we’ve talked brows, and now it’s all about the face. I’m not going to go on and on about how important a smooth canvas is, but suffice it to say—it is, so take care of your skin. Now, back to the makeup! I’m going to teach you a few insider tips and tricks so you’ll have the most fabulous face in all the land. Enough chit chat; let’s get started.
Best of the 'Bee - Ace your Face (Pt. 1) :  wedding best of weddingbee makeup tampa tutorial 11.jpg
First and foremost, start with a clean face (please excuse my no makeup face). After I wash my face, I always use toner. Biore Triple Action something or other. It’s inexpensive and works amazingly. It always gets off whatever make-up/dirt/oil that washing may have left behind.
Ugh, But Do We Have To?
March 8th, 2010 @ 4:28 pm by Mrs. Rainbow
I’ve found that when it comes to weddings, sometimes there is very little to do with the bride and groom. Besides the dress and the flowers and the I dos, a big part of a lot of weddings are all about pleasing your guests and pissing off as few people as possible. Brides often have to roll over and do things that they don’t really want, or eliminate things they do really want, in order to keep the peace.
“Ugh, do we really have to have daisies? I’m not really a fan of daisies.” If you want to continue speaking to your mother, you’ll carry the damn daisies.
“Ugh, do we have to do the bouquet/garter toss? It’s so uncomfortable.” Do you want your family to look at you like a 12 headed-freak for shunning tradition? No? Then you’ll let your groom stick his head up your dress for your guests’ amusement, because that’s much more “normal”.
About Mrs. Rainbow
It’s officially March, and we all know what that means—check in time! We’ve now got exactly 7 months until the wedding, and let me just say, this month was pretty much a fail month. That’s right, I’ve been one slackin’ ass bee.
I’m a bit disappointed in myself that I slacked off so badly this month, but—although I don’t like to make excuses—it has been an exceptionally difficult month for Mr. Rainbow and me. Let me explain.
In the past, I’ve never had issues with my weight. It always stayed pretty much the same, and if I wanted to lose a few pounds, it was never too difficult for me. But a little while ago, I started gaining weight, quickly and seemingly uncontrollably, and the worst part was that no matter what I did, it just wouldn’t come off. I know my body, and I know how it works, so I had a funny feeling that there was something medically wrong with me, but no one would believe me, and I had no health insurance to get my suspicions confirmed.
That was until this month.
For The Love of Dahlias
I think the title says it all.
When we had originally planned to get married in May, I thought, ‘Oh fabulous, right in the middle of spring! I can have any flower I want!’ Yeah, apparently I was wrong. Granted, our original date was smack dab in the middle of peony season. Great right? I mean, what bride doesn’t love peonies? So fluffily and ruffily and beautiful.
