Grazie, Danke, Merci, Gracias…

October 15th, 2009 @ 2:43 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

There are so many ways to say thank you! But my favorite? Why, the favor, of course! It’s just a sweet little sentiment to say a non-verbal thank you. From the beginning, we knew that we wanted to do edible favors. With edible favors, guests rarely wait 30 seconds after sitting down to gobble the goodies. Here are my top contenders for edible favors:

Silver Jordan Almonds: I love that they fit our color scheme, are pretty inexpensive, and very yummy. The only downside is that they may be a little too traditional for me. Jordan almonds are probably the most standard edible wedding favor, and I don’t think I want standard. Coating them in silver does turn them into chic little nuts though, don’t you think?

Location Limbo

October 15th, 2009 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Rainbow

That’s where the FI and I have been recently, and it hasn’t been fun. With 9 months ’til our wedding and no definite location, I was in a bit of a freak out mode. Why, 9 months is plenty of time, you say? Not when I was expecting to have everything—that’s right—everything done six months before the wedding. Maybe I was reaching a little bit, but… ’tis the curse of being Type-A.

When the Mister and I first got engaged, I already knew exactly where we were getting married. No if, ands, or buts about it! I wanted to get married outdoors, under a big oak tree with Spanish moss, and I had already scoped out the perfect location thanks to Brides Magazine. Yeah… that was until I visited the location and got the quote for said wedding. $4,000 for a Sunday, and that includes… well, the location and not much else. At almost a third of our budget, that place was out the door faster than I could say “bankruptcy”.

This post is dedicated to cake, sweet cake. I LOVE wedding cakes. Not necessarily what’s inside (I don’t really like cake, more on that later), but the beautiful, delicate, gorgeous outside. Needless to say, as soon as the FI and I were engaged, the cake hunt had begun. I scoured pages and pages of wedding cakes before we chose “the one”. Here are a few of my favorites:

The Rainbows

October 14th, 2009 @ 9:27 am by Mrs. Rainbow

So, I’ve given you some pretty prime details about the wedding, but I haven’t spoken much to the wonderful man that set all this into motion—my fiance. I promised you in my first post that I would tell you all about him, so here it is! I apologize in advance if I start to gush; it’s just so hard not to!

Mr. R & I met during Christmas at my aunt’s house in Florida. He was my cousin’s best friend and I was instantly smitten. He was so different than anyone I’d  ever met. He was hilarious, sarcastic, extremely intelligent, and had the most amazing stormy blue eyes you’ve ever seen. He chased me around my aunt’s back yard with markers—I guess that meant he liked me, too. After the holidays, I went back to Alabama with my family, but he never left my mind. That was in 1998, and I was 11.

We saw each other every other Christmas for the next few years—only 4 times between 1998 and 2003. We spent the time between, chatting on Instant Messenger, sending ridiculously long emails, and occasionally talking on the phone. We never fully came out and said that we liked each other, but it was obvious. We’d go months without speaking, and then pick up right where we left off. Despite the distance, there was something that just kept drawing us back to each other. The last time we came to Florida for the holidays was in 2005. I was so excited to see him. I had just turned 18, I had grown up a little, and I just knew that if he was there that Christmas, I would finally tell him how I felt after all those years. He didn’t show. I was 16 the last time I saw Mr. R.

When I was 19, I got engaged to my then-boyfriend, J. Soon after he proposed, we moved to Florida so he could pursue his education. I hate to admit this, but as soon as my then-fiance decided to move to Florida, Mr. R crossed my mind.

We’ve all seen those photos of sweet little pink-cheeked children looking oh-so angelic at weddings, with their mussed up curls and their cute little dresses. Seriously, who doesn’t love a little boy in a tiny suit?:

… besides saying “yes” and “I do”. The Colors. Dun, dun, dun… cue the ominous music. Okay, maybe it’s not THAT serious, but it’s close! Wedding colors dictate the whole feel/mood/ambiance of a wedding, or any space, for that matter. Think about it… you go to a spa and everything is soothing and calm: blues, greens, greys. A nice restaurant: rich reds, browns, and golds; it’s warm and inviting. This is not by accident, people! It has been proven time and time again that colors really DO affect our mood and perception. That being said, my first instinct was a peacock theme. Anyone who knows me knows I ADORE feathers, any and all types. My senior prom dress was covered in feathers, and yes, it was fabulous. I think they are just the absolute most dreamy, fairy tale-esque, whimsical thing on the planet. So, peacock it was!

These Shoes Rule.

October 10th, 2009 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Rainbow

Let’s get some shoes. Oh my god. Shoes.

Kudos to anyone who got that reference. If you didn’t, you need a Kelly refresher course, stat.

Similar to a large chunk of the female population, I LOVE shoes. There’s just something about them. The shape, the colors, the endless variations of styles, that feeling you get when you see a shoe that you just can’t live without. I left behind one pair of Nicole Miller shoes in high school because of the price tag, and to this day I still think about them. I’ve gone to stores and have literally had my breath taken away by some of the shoes out there. Like any self-proclaimed shoe addict, there is but only one Shoe Goddess:

Bridesmaids’ Dresses

October 9th, 2009 @ 2:56 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

While shopping for my bridesmaids’ dresses, I end up wanting every cute silver dress I find for myself! It’s driving me nuts! I DO want them to look good, after all… even if I AM a bit jealous that I won’t be the one wearing fabulously chic little grey dresses like these:

Bridesmaids' Dresses : wedding bridesmaid dress Z193102 gray_bridesmaids

How fabulous are these? I would love for all 3 of my girls to have different dresses, but apparently it’s very difficult to find 3 different silvers that go well together and aren’t obscenely expensive. One is either too blue, too dark, too taupe, too… something! BM dresses are basically the bane of my existence at this point, can you tell?

My First DIY

October 9th, 2009 @ 11:06 am by Mrs. Rainbow

For whatever reason, as soon as I entered the world of wedding planning/blogs/craziness, one little thing stuck out to me: the card box. Random. Yes, I know. Such a small detail. Most brides put the card box on to the back burner and deal with more important issues first (uhm.. finding a dress anyone?), but I couldn’t get all those cute little card boxes out of my head! Oh, the joys of being Type-A.

Un-bee-lievable!

October 8th, 2009 @ 2:40 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

I. Am. A. Beeeeee!!! Squeeeeeeeal! WOW! Is this really happening?! Why yes, I think it is! I cannot tell you how absolutely excited and honored I am to be able to share my wedding planning trials and tribulations with the hive! I must admit, along with that excitement comes absolute terror, but it’s a good fear! I started my blog a little over two weeks ago with the (sole, tee hee) intention of applying for the ’bee. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be accepted, much less find out a long and grueling two whole days later! ;) Needless to say, when I got the email from Pengy, I squealed, jumped, flailed my arms, danced, rinsed, and repeated.

So, why Miss Rainbow? Firstly, I have a penchant for deeming everything—the good, bad, and ugly— “sunshine and rainbows”. As in: “Honey, you might wanna give it a few minutes before you go into the bathroom, it smells like sunshine and rainbows in there…”

Okay, too much sharing for day one? *blush* Second, I am a big advocate of gay rights, especially when it comes to marriage. I can’t wait until the day when all of us, every single one, can live in a just and unprejudiced nation and truly share equal rights as human beings. And lastly, well, have you seen those puffy little clouds?! Too cute!
