Hi, Mrs. Bee,

Just wanted to let you know that my FI and I went to register at Bloomingdale’s on Saturday, and they gave us a complimentary pass to the Wedding Salon next week! If any of your readers are planning to register at Bloomingdales (or maybe already are, but haven’t stopped by in awhile), they should head over this week so they can get their awfully expensive tickets for freeee!

Reader Email: Dealing With Depression

March 15th, 2007 @ 8:41 pm by Reader Email

Dear Weddingbee,

I was browsing through archives the other day, and found one about brides worrying about pain due to various medical conditions. There were a lot of comments from other brides going through similar things and it seemed to be really helpful for those dealing with it. I was wondering about the topic of depression… I haven’t seen it on the site. I’ve been dealing with depression for a few years now (it runs in my family unfortunately). The main cause has been grad school. I’m having major difficulties with my research project and my advisor, and it’s been a huge strain on my confidence, leading to several periods of depression.

I’ve been going to therapy and it helped, but then I got engaged and was super busy and also feeling pretty good (really excited about everything) so I stopped going. But over the past month or so I’m dealing with a lot more pressure with school and research, plus my FI and I moved into a new condo, which has been great but also has led to a lot of headaches. I live far from my family and friends so I’m doing the wedding planning on my own, and my FI works long hours, so I’ve been feeling really isolated. I use wedding planning to cheer myself up b/c it’s the one area in my life I’m really happy about, but depression is just an irrational thing and lately it’s been taking over. I started back at therapy but I’ve still been feeling so down.

DIY Crayons

February 8th, 2007 @ 2:51 pm by Reader Email

Dear Weddingbee,

Recently in attempts to get rid of my old crayons in my classroom, I decided to melt them down in metal molds. I chose heart shaped molds because of the upcoming Valentine’s holiday. While watching my last batch cool, I realized that I could use this idea for the underaged guests at my wedding. I would alternate hearts and shell molds to go with my beach theme of course. I thought some of your diy brides might like the idea so I have enclosed pictures and how-tos. I hope the crayon idea works with your readers!

Gocco Invites and STD’s

February 2nd, 2007 @ 4:42 pm by Reader Email

Hi Mrs. Bee!

Just wanted to write real quick and show you our gocco’d save the dates and invitations. I know you posted a while ago regarding the Japanese silk screening toy, but thought you and your readers would like to see a finished product! I did the design work and my fiance helped with gocco’ing, cutting, and assembling. All paper was purchased at Paper Source.

Reader Email: Wedding Review

December 15th, 2006 @ 5:16 pm by Reader Email

Hi Bees,

I am now officially a ¢¢â€š¬…”Mrs.¢¢â€š¬? !

After a year of planning a destination wedding, it’s finally all over. I have read Weddingbee just about every single day (sometimes many times a day) since I found it online. Weddingbee has been my most favorite and best resource for all my wedding needs.

Now that I have been through the whole wedding planning experience, I would love to share some advice with you all who are still planning. So many things I worried about turned out to be silly in the end because my whole wedding went off without a hitch¢¢â€š¬¦ almost.

Let me break it down for you, mistakes, troubles and all. We arrived at our destination (beautiful, snowy Colorado!) the Wednesday before the wedding. The guests and family all trickled in from Thursday to Saturday morning.

Reader Email: Engagement Shoots

November 8th, 2006 @ 4:40 pm by Reader Email

Hi Mrs. Bee!

I know a lot of us brides are really interested in celebrating our engagement with professional pictures. We’ve seen some beautiful pictures on this site already– they inspired me to book an e-shoot of my own, even though my fiance and I had originally planned to skip it. We always thought of it as a non-essential, and the wedding budget being what it is, we thought we’d try to cut down where we could. As a compromise, we decided to hire a photographer from craigslist! Luckily we found one we really liked. I thought some of the other weddingbee readers might be interested in taking this route as well– if nothing else, it’s another potentially fruitful research outlet!

The photographer’s name is Jodi Gibson and she and her husband, Danny, spent 2 hours shooting us in Central Park two weekends ago. They were fun, laid-back and professional (she has an MFA in fine arts photography and has even taught classes at the college level). The best part, of course, is that the photos turned out great. We got the finished product on a DVD in about a week. She took straightforward portraits, as well as specialty-lens shots. She even took the time to do after-production color-work, which I hadn’t expected.

I was at Target and saw the new line from Behnaz Sarafpour. These dresses would make great bridesmaid dresses! Don’t let the online pics deceive you - the dresses look so much better in person!

Reader Email: Young Designer’s Market

October 31st, 2006 @ 3:27 pm by Reader Email

Hello,

I frequent the young designer’s market down in SoHo every weekend in search for one of a kind pieces. I always buy very cute jewelry there, but they also sell handmade clothing, hats, candles, and bags there. Anyways, the point to my email, I met a woman who makes very cute purses / clutches that I thought would be nice bridesmaid gifts. Her bags range between $50 - $75 each.
