Jade and Ron: Let’s Wrap It Up!

July 10th, 2009 @ 4:05 pm by Real Weddings

I would like to thank Weddingbee for the opportunity to write about my wedding. It was a lot of fun for me. I received a lot of positive feedback from many brides and I will try to write about more DIY projects in the future. I hope this inspires some of you, as you have inspired me. I will post future DIY projects to my site diyweddingdetails and the Weddingbee DIY section.

Jade and Ron: Candy Buffet

July 9th, 2009 @ 3:55 pm by Real Weddings

Ever since our wedding planning started, I wanted to do a candy buffet. I wanted to make sure our guests were comfortable and felt appreciated when they left the wedding. I started to collect different jars slowly. I didn’t buy all the jars at once. I just shopped around at Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Target, etc…

Jade and Ron: Candy Buffet : wedding candy buffet diy features Main1 main

I didn’t want to have just candy, so I did some research on cupcakes and came across this site: bakerella.com. She had some cake pops that looked really fun, so I started making them. I normally don’t eat desserts that much, but my husband is a HUGE fan so I thought it’d be fun to make a big spread of desserts and candy.

Jade and Ron: Flowers and Cakes

July 2nd, 2009 @ 4:14 pm by Real Weddings

I love flowers… plain and simple! Since I was little I was always fascinated by flowers. I decided to use roses, gerbera daisies and orchids to spice up the wedding. I wasn’t into roses very much until I worked at Central Market. I saw this beautiful intuition rose and from that point forward I loved that particular kind of rose. I used this all over our wedding and it added a wonderful texture to my bouquet. Roses and gerbera daisies are the most common flowers that people see and they are less expensive than other kinds of flowers such as peonies and orchids. It’s all about how you use the flowers and how they fit into your personality. I added some feathers and beads to my bouquet, which made it a little bit more special than the normal bouquets that I saw. I also added the bead sprays to boutonnieres and hand corsages to make everything fit together.

The dress! Most of us girls think it’s the most important part of the wedding, but we can’t forget about our grooms!

I’m very petite and it was hard for me to find the dress that would fit me perfectly. I went to many bridal shops and couldn’t find one that I liked. I always had in mind that I would want a lacy type of dress. I wanted more of a flowing soft fabric dress, but when I tried them on they didn’t look right. My sister and I ended up going to Terri Costa, a bridal shop that has many different bridal collections. I chose 3 dresses to try on. One had a HUGE train with blue crystal beading on top and some beading on the train, one was all lace, and one had lots of intricate beading and looked like it would fit me. My sister helped me pick the first two dresses, and the third one was just hanging by the dressing room door. I thought it looked different, and just wanted to try on for fun. The first two dresses were really heavy and looked like they swallowed me whole. When I put the third one on, it fit like a glove. It was quite different than the dress I would imagine myself choosing. I didn’t want a lot of beading, tiers, details, or even a corset top, and this dress was all that and more.

I would recommend trying on different styles of dresses even if you think you won’t like them. You might be surprised! The beading on my dress may be overwhelming for some people, but it was perfect for me. It added some mass so I didn’t look too small, and the dress had a vintage feel that fit my venue very well.

Jade and Ron: Let’s Plan!

June 29th, 2009 @ 9:25 am by Real Weddings

Planning! This was the most exciting part of the wedding for me. Before planning, we needed to: make sure we set a budget, got a rough idea of the wedding style we wanted, and sorted out what was most important to us. We didn’t want the budget to balloon out of control, so it was best to really try to plan out where the money would be spent.

Our budget was based more upon what we could afford and less on what our “dream wedding” would be. Ideally, they would have matched, but we had to make compromises. Like most brides, my budget wasn’t big, so I had to pick one thing that I would compromise the least on, and everything else had to be budget-friendly.

I started with picking our colors, which were red and pink, with the idea of wanting lots of lanterns. Red and pink are the most common colors (luckily), so we found a lot of things in those colors without spending too much money. Think about Valentine’s Day… everything is red and pink! So, I got a lot of our decorations the day after Valentine’s Day (when they were on sale). We stock-piled a whole lot of candy, and it worked out perfectly.

Be open-minded with colors! I decided to use different shades of red and pink. By not restricting myself to a certain shade, it made our planning easier. Various shades added a nice dimension to our photographs.

It’s fun to be creative with your table numbers! Since I was on a budget, I didn’t want to spend too much on my table numbers, so I printed mine at home and decided to make a fun project out of it.

Jade and Ron: DIY Ceremony Details

June 25th, 2009 @ 9:29 am by Real Weddings

Today in Jade and Ron’s Real Wedding Series, Jade shows us how she added a personal touch to her ceremony!

~~~
I always love to hang things, so I decided to create something fun for our ceremony site. I find my inspirations from everywhere, not just wedding places. I really love interior decorating and found some fun vases at cb2.com and thought they would be unique to add to our decorations. The best part is you can use them after the wedding for home decor. You can try and find things that you use in your everyday life to add to your wedding. Not only it is a great way to show people your tastes, but you can save some money, too!
Materials:
  • 30 crystal teardrops at cristalier.com
  • Fishing line from Walmart or any craft store
  • 6 teardrop hanging vases
  • 5 round hanging vases
  • Some beads from Hobby Lobby
  • Flowers of your choice
Mrs. Penguin here! If you’ve perused the Weddingbee Gallery recently, you might have noticed reader msblossom’s absolutely gorgeous wedding pictures! I couldn’t get them out of my mind! :) I finally contacted her in hopes that she would be so gracious to share her wedding with the hive… and luckily, she said yes! Without further ado, here’s Jade (aka msblossom) with her wedding story! Throughout the week she’ll share with you all the awesome details of her gorgeous wedding to her husband Ron. Please join me in welcoming Jade to the hive this week!
~~~

I’m very honored and excited to share with you how the various ideas for the wedding came together. I will begin the series by introducing ourselves so you have a better idea of who we are and how we decided on our wedding style.

My husband is Ron and my name is Jade. We met in a college programming class. We have very different personalities, yet we are alike in many ways. I’m very outgoing and a talk-box, whereas Ron is quiet and reserved. Together, we are a bit nerdy and very conservative. I like to do creative things and sometimes have a hard time controlling my creative ideas, while Ron is very logical and witty in his own way.

Jade and Ron: Let's Start From the Beginning... : wedding features Intro1 intro1

After we got engaged I became the “logical” one and didn’t want to waste money on a wedding. I wanted to save our money and buy a house instead. Ron wanted a house too, but really wanted to have a wedding so we could have great memories later to look back on.

{Matt & Angie} ~ Wedding ~ Bali

June 20th, 2009 @ 2:20 pm by Real Weddings

This stunning Real Wedding comes to us courtesy of Brisbane based photographer, Jonas Peterson.

~~~
When Matt and Angie met at the Glastonbury Festival it was love at first sight. Only one problem; Matt had just moved from the UK to sunny Australia. Six months later Angie followed her heart and joined Matt down under. When they decided to get married, they found themselves in a bit of a pickle. They needed a spot somewhere in between the UK and Australia, so that family and friends, both old and new, would be able to join them on their big day.
The answer was Bali.
On the day the 38 guests joined Matt and Angie at Villa Pemutih in Bingin. Overlooking the Indian Ocean - and with monkeys in the trees - we all experienced a very special day. Angie wore a vintage 1950s dress she found in London, the girls got their stunning purple dresses made after they arrived in Bali, and the boys looked equally dapper in grey and blue. Everything had a local touch, even the welcome drinks tasted of Bali with ginger and lemongrass keeping people cool in the tropic sun.
Both Matt and Angie are in to yoga, Angie even teaches classes in Sydney. The ceremony even started with all the guest doing a two minute “om” together with their eyes closed. It was also the first time I’ve seen a groom standing on his head in the bathroom while the guests were arriving outside, and it still made perfect sense.
In fact, most things made perfect sense, during the speeches groomsmen and bridesmaids shared photos and clips from both their lives on a huge screen. It was truly fantastic.
Come to think of it, everything was perfect.
To describe our wedding, all I have to say is YELLOW!! We wanted yellow everywhere. Yellow makes people happy, and being a fashion designer, I knew that yellow was the trending color of the season. At the time, I was designing for famed fashion store Anthropologie so I wanted a rustic, vintage look.
The event design was heavily influenced by our modern tastes and the geeky nature of our venue. We tried to infuse the day with lots of unexpected details that maintained this modern, geeky theme and showcased what kind of couple we are. We also wanted the day to be special not only for us, but also for our family and friends by paying homage to traditions while revamping them to fit our needs.
The boat picks you up from the lobby of the hotel and brings you straight there.
