When Weddingbee reader Sarah introduced me to Nicole and Cabel’s wedding, I knew we had to feature it on Weddingbee, so I contacted them right away. Part One of this Real Wedding series will introduce you to the awesome pixel theme Nicole and Cabel created for their wedding. In Part Two, you’ll get a glimpse into how their theme came together on their fabulous wedding day!
Most of the time we have brides sharing their perspective on the big day, but we’re extra excited that Cabel is giving us the groom’s view today!

The Brainstorm
I spent a too-long amount of time brainstorming the foundation of our design. First, I knew I wanted to incorporate Nicole’s love of visual contrast — she who is so fond of a super-dark gray cloudy sky with a burst of a blue showing through, or a beautiful flower popping up through tired concrete. Second, I knew that the design had to represent both of us, a little piece of each. I know, right? As much as I’d love to make a wedding invitation with photos of say, photos of the latest flavors of Sun Chips (”You’re invited to our peppercorn-ranchuptuals!”), it probably wouldn’t play too well outside of, uh, me.
Then, two key words popped into my mind:
Pixel flowers.

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”
On a record-setting hot day in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Kimberly and Ryan stood before 134 friends and family members and vowed to love, honor, and cherish each other. Kimberly and Ryan met on her very first day of school at James Madison University in 2002, and six years later, tied the knot in a beautiful “traditional with a twist” seaside wedding.

Today we’re featuring the real wedding of Lizzie and Howard who were married at a gorgeous beachfront hotel in Santa Monica, California. Lizzie had a hand in most of the design details of their wedding - she created the invitations, menus, programs, place cards, and more. They honored their distinct backgrounds by incorporating Asian motifs into their Jewish ceremony.

This is the final installment of the gorgeous wedding of Nicole & Kent! (Part I, II, III)
Engagement Photographer: Amaris Cavin– A+
Since we knew our theme was a dramatic departure from a “regular 2007 wedding,” we wanted to get our guests in the time warp mood a little early. Thus, we took our engagement portraits in vintage clothes on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. My husband is in the Navy and loves boats, ships, etc., so the Queen Mary was his idea. My friend Amaris, who was also one of my bridesmaids and is a professional photographer, took the pictures and, well, the pictures speak for themselves. She specializes in photographic storytelling using children’s portraits.
We loved the vintage backgrounds (we were wearing vintage clothing too!). Basically she is talented and SO awesome!

We first featured the gorgeous Hollywood glamour inspired wedding of Nicole and Kent back in December. Her day after pictures were just as beautiful and uinque as her wedding and engagement pictures, so we had to share them with you! Enjoy!
Part 1 - The Wedding
Part 2 - The Engagement Pictures
I had been surfing around San Diego wedding planner websites and came across a GORGEOUS picture of a bride and groom sitting together on a bench beneath the most majestic tree. The photo credit was linked to the photographer’s website so after exchanging a few emails and finally talking on the phone, I realized that he lived in North Carolina! I had no idea he wasn’t local. But I knew he had to be our photographer. So, while negotiating, he offered to take day-after pictures while he was in town. He also said it’s a good idea since a lot of brides are stressed out on the actual wedding day; the next day is better for getting totally relaxed, blissed out pictures. We had never intended to have day after pictures taken, but he offered them for no additional charge - so we said OK. It turned out to be a very good decision because we didn’t have time to take couple pictures on our wedding day like we had planned.

We met more than ten years ago as sophomores in our high school honors English class and have been attached at the hip ever since! He was my first boyfriend and I was his first girlfriend. After being crowned Prom King and Queen, going to UCSD together for college, being on opposite sides of the country for two years, and a romantic proposal in Maui, we finally tied the knot on May 12, 2007.

I first met our featured bride, Jenny, at a summer camp when we were in elementary school. We were in the same group and she even came over to my house once after camp ended… but soon thereafter we lost contact. Fast forward nearly 15 years when we subscribed to each other’s xanga sites. We’d been reading each other’s sites for years before we just recently realized… that we knew each other! I can’t tell you how many people I’ve reconnected with through my blog!
Jenny recently had a gorgeous Southern California wedding, so I asked her to share the details with weddingbee…
