She’s here! After ten long months of waiting and growing, baby Sand Dollar has finally made her entrance! Little Charlie is already a total sweetheart, we can’t get enough of that little face. And her Papa can’t be any prouder; they’re already best buds.

Whew! Even though our wedding was nine months ago, I’ve just now finished sewing our guestbook quilt! Why did it take so long? Well, like a crazy person, I decided to hand embroider each and every message on our 40 signed blocks. I was afraid that over time the fabric pen might fade, and I wanted each name and wish to last a lifetime. After all, quilts are often heirlooms, so why not go all out?

This weekend, Mr. SD and I celebrated our official one year anniversary. Confused? True, our wedding was last September. On May 7, 2010 we trekked down to the local courthouse and tied the knot in a civil service. Let me tell you how incredibly romantic it was. To set the scene, the bride donned black cropped spandex workout pants, Easy Tone tennis shoes, and a t-shirt. The groom dressed to match. The young judge then proceeded to chat about boats for a good 10 minutes, then realized we actually came to get married, so we got down to business. Then his phone rang halfway through. Nice. To keep it classy, we celebrated with a post-marriage brunch at IHOP. Yet I wouldn’t change a thing! Read more…

The wedding industry wants us to think that engagements are filled with sunshine and rainbows. Despite all its fluff, the movie Bride Wars got it right during a montage scene comparing Anne Hathaway’s and Kate Hudson’s relationships. Sometimes engagements can bring all the gooey romantic fluff out in a couple, and sometimes it can bring all their conflicts to the forefront. Mr. SD and I were the latter, but instead of duking it out every chance we got, we had great discussions and resolved a lot of our fundamental differences. I love that even though times can get rough (and they always do, luckily we’re finally past all that crazy from earlier this year), you can still band together as a couple and support each other. This post reminds me of our hard times, and how we overcame them to become Mr. and Mrs. today.

It seems that there come times in a relationship where everything becomes a struggle. Nothing works out your way, and normally simple tasks become ten times more difficult. This summer has been one of those times for Mr. SD and me.
Mr. SD has been a student for the past two years. His employer sent him to school to study up on electrical stuff (I have no earthly idea what he does), with the promise that he’ll come back to work with a hefty raise. How awesome is that? Unfortunately, Mr. SD is no financial planner.

Well, hive, it’s about that time. I had a blast planning my wedding with you, reliving the big day with amazing photos, and sharing a few good projects that every bride can pull off post-wedding. I’m not going to say this is my final goodbye, since I plan to pop in every now and then with the Bee Series that are going on, and perhaps an anniversary post or two. I want to thank all of you for all the great advice, support, and bee love you’ve shared with me over the past six months. It’s been wonderful, absolutely wonderful.
For those of you who love nesting, more DIY projects, and taking on a building project (or 10), come take a peek at my revamped blog, Killer b. I’d love to see you around!
All my love, Sand Dollar.

About a million years ago, I won a prize from Apartment Therapy for a Canvas Pop $25 coupon. The one and only time I won a blog prize…hooray! Maybe someday I’ll win some more. But I digress.
Once I figured out a size I could afford, 8×10 (I needed to pay an additional $16 for taxes and S&H), the hard part was deciding on an image. I played around with a few, and finally decided on a ring shot I took at the inn we stayed at just after he proposed. Now, 8 months after I received my canvas, I mounted it on a spare piece of MDF.

Getting an album made can be one of the most daunting tasks post-planning. Which company do I choose? What layout? Paper quality, finish, cover stock? It’s overwhelming! As quickly as I wanted to wrap up the whole wedding process (as is evident from my recap schedule, I like to wrap things up in a very neat package as soon as they’re done), I didn’t want to become overwhelmed with dedicating so much time to an album—especially after I had spent so much time editing and creating a wedding DVD. So, I decided to create a brag book, with Blurb.
In short, a brag book is a small bound book printed with most of your wedding pictures, in a single-photo-per-page layout. It’s normally also given as a gift to parents so they can easily tote it around and show the photos to all their friends, hence the name “Brag Book.” I chose the 7×7 square from Blurb, and for just under $35 (after finding a free shipping coupon) I received a 165 page book with the premium paper upgrade. I chose Blurb simply because I had used it before, and have always been really happy with the results. About a week later, I received my book.

While stumbling around on some wedding blogs, I came across the cutest image. It was a framed wedding invitation, but there was something new added to it. The invite was matted, and written on the mat were words used from the ceremony. I was so inspired, I had to do it myself the week I got back from our honeymoon!
I headed straight over to Hobby Lobby to take advantage of their half price frames, and found a couple of mats (I needed to do one for myself and one as a gift to Bridesmaid Stacie, whose invites I designed and then spent a harrowing weekend making and assembling pocket folds with her) and bought a handful of colored pens. Here’s my result:

I mentioned before that we would be DIYing our wedding video. Bridesmaid Stacie’s sweet husband Kurt was awesome enough to volunteer to be our videographer. We had a tripod, an HD camera my mom gifted me (for her baby Sand Dollars she is convinced will be along ASAP) and a Macbook to get it done. I used iMovieHD to edit everything, and burned a super cute DVD using iDVD. Seriously, it’s awesome! We have chapters and music and menus, and it’s mega cool!
I was a little worried that it would turn out to be super cheesy, but it really is pretty cute! Yes, it looks like a home video. No, it doesn’t make it any less awesome in my eyes. Read more…

Well, it’s that time. Time to wrap up my recaps with our big exit. I polled the hive to help me decide between my scooter and Mr. SD’s mud-hoggin’ Suzuki Samuri. Well, the hive has spoken!
My mom made the adorable little sign on her Cricut, and laminated it just in case of rain. That icky rope is a remnant from our earlier preparations, where we literally had to rope off between each huge support beam to keep annoying soccer families out. When I say these people were rude, I mean, they were RUDE!

We started wrapping up the night with the traditional garter and bouquet toss. Originally I’d wanted to attach gift cards to both so the competition would be more exciting, but in all the hustle and bustle getting things ready this idea fell through the cracks. Which was bad news bears, because nobody even tried to catch either! Mega lame. Hey, at least the bench got to make its big debut! I decided to get a little saucy with it

OK, we’re now back on track, whew! Once we had taken all the pretty pretty pictures, I swapped out dresses and donned my cute little ponytail. We were introduced for the first time as Mr. and Mrs!
Confession: This was hands down the most awkward part of the day. People kind of clapped, a little bit, but not really. Pretty much the only thing they were thinking about was the food. We didn’t know what to do, so basically we just wandered out into the middle of the space and waved like beauty queens. Then I yelled, “Let’s eat!” to which nobody responded. Awk-ward…

I know formals can be pretty boring, but in my case, I actually love them! Those shadows are just so epic, and the sun behind the guys reminds me of a very dramatic DVD cover.
