I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
Working in a bridal shop certainly had its advantages. I got my dress at a wholesale price, for instance. Also, I get to see all the gorgeous hair pieces and accessories on display. However, those don’t come at a discount. And with even the most simple starting at $30, I knew I’d never be able to afford $200 hair combs in our wedding budget (and yes, they really are priced that high! I honestly can’t fathom it). So, I did what any self-respecting DIY bride would do. I went to Hobby Lobby. Read more…

Well, here they are! I hope you’re ready for a photo heavy post, because I am one proud mama of this labor of love. I spent the better part of two days assembling six bridesmaid bouquets and my much spiffier larger bouquet. The colors are vibrant and happy and the ribbons make the look so luxe.

The invites are done! Well, the invites are designed, so step 1 is fully complete. And I’m pleased as punch with how everything came out. The funniest part is whenever I show them to someone, it seems that it must be read in your best deep Southern drawl.
Choosing the wording was a bit of a challenge for me. Read more…

I have a confession to make. I used a template site for my wedding website (cringe). Yes, I know. But I’m only slightly ashamed. Being a professional designer (and yes, website developer) keeps me pretty busy. And the thought of taking those potentially money-making hours away from my schedule to work on a personal site only up for a couple of months wasn’t really sitting well. And since I’ve been using WeddingWire for all my planning needs, I figured, what the heck? I’ll use their website tool!
And I am so glad I did! It was beyond easy, and they have loads of cute options.

Turn on the power of shining light! Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I used to be so jealous of my sister when she got a Lite Brite for Christmas; I played with it all the time. If you’re wondering what you’re looking at, here’s a glimpse of them in full light.

Check out those beauties! Didn’t they turn out fabulous? I love the backer paper, it’s a deep red Strathmore drawing paper with such a great texture. I think the best part was that they were all lovingly crafted by hand. Though they have imperfections, it’s hardly noticeable (in my recent friend poll, at least!) It was worth all the hand screening, X-Acto cutting, and machine sewing. I love the zigzag stich, here, take a look! Read more…

Love. Who knew you could fall in love with painted feathers and plastic wire? I totally did! As soon as I saw this picture I knew that for our wedding, flowers flew out the window. Not only do I get the chance to make this gorgeous little piece of handheld art, it’s really going to last forever! Well, a forever as long as two dogs and future mini-people with jam hands running around can be. I fear the jam hands.

That’s what this sucker is. Maybe not quite blank, but at the very most all we’ve got is a rough outline. This is MacLean Park, our lovely little wedding venue that is waiting for Clinton and Stacie to swoop on in and dress it up “What Not to Wear” style. I think it’s got great bones, it’s just in dire need of a little gussyin’ up for our big shindig. For now, let’s focus on the high points, shall we?

And they’re off! I hand screened a hundred and fifty of these suckers, in red and brown ink. My apartment was covered in 100 sheets of freshly inked paper. But don’t we make a cute couple? Our kiddos will breathe so easily with the giant schnozes we’ll be passing down! I drew these lovely silhouettes in Adobe Illustrator quite some time ago when I started a fabric cameo project. So when I started designing the STDs I knew they’d be perfect front and center. And I’m so in love with the Western feel. It totally fits us both. Read more…

I’m not really a ritzy kinda gal. My favorite places to eat are locally owned; I love consignment shops and parks. So after getting engaged, I started dreaming about our perfect wedding: A Rustic Summer Barbecue in the Park. Read more…

Hiya hive! It’s so exciting to be writing my intro post as an official bee! I never thought this day would come. Of course I immediately called everyone I knew and told them all the good news. It’s not every day you’re accepted to blog for the best wedding website in the world! I’ve been a subscriber since I found the ’bee back in ’07, so I’m over the moon to be the newest addition.
