My parents threw a big ol’ full-scale wedding for their 25th anniversary in 1995. My mother wore a gorgeous Carolina Herrera* couture gown that was absolutely fantastic. A few months ago, she suggested that I take that dress and have it made into a short rehearsal dinner dress. I thought it was an amazing idea.
We pulled it out of the storage closet, and it was still beautiful and in perfect condition. We played with it for a few minutes, then put it away so that it wouldn’t get damaged by us or the 60-pound poodle that was also jumping around with us. Read more…

Mr. Scissors and I are food-lovers. We can nom like champs.
When it came time to start discussing food for the reception, we were torn. We wanted to be able to have some kick-butt food, but weren’t really thrilled with the idea of a sit-down 45-course meal. We wanted dancing! Revelry! Mingling! Bouncing around! After eating a big sit down meal, I know all I want is a n-a-p. Read more…

Or: Why I’m glad Matron of Honor Scissors tells me what to do and has a set.
Or: The story of how we met.
Gather ’round, children, and I’ll tell you the story of how Mr. S and I met.
On New Year’s Eve in 2007, I was pissed off. Really pissed off. A few days prior, the largest d-bag on the planet, also known as my ex-boyfriend, told me that he was going to Las Vegas with his frat brothers and blowing off our plans for NYE. MaOH Scissors told me that we were going to a party that night, and I didn’t have a choice. I did not want to go. At all. I whined and tried to make up excuses, but she’s pretty good at standing her ground. Read more…

So, I like to write things down. A lot. I may be a super computer person, but I also find comfort in the act of writing things down. Also, I need something to keep me occupied at all times for fear of bouncing through windows or climbing into cabinets. I always keep 2 Moleskines on me at all times, which is another whole post a’ comin’, but yeah. I doodle, I sketch. I write stuff down or I won’t remember it. I think I’ve made my “I need something to write on” point clear.
In comes the idea of a wedding planner. Not the human kind, but the paper kind. Read more…

…then we would totally use Obsessed with You by The Orion Experience as our first dance song. It is our song. It’s awesome, super fun, and I know we’ll have it on our playlist for the reception.
We might just wait until people have a few more cocktails in ’em to play it.
Anybody else have some “couple” songs that are not exactly first-dance appropriate?

Neither Mr. S nor I are very dancily-inclined. We’re both pretty awkward people, to be perfectly honest. I forget how long my limbs are. Mr. S has big feet. I have tiny feet. I giggle or act like a fool when I’m nervous. I think our idea of dancing is jumping up and down. We’re really good at that. Mr. S can totally rock the Nathaniel Dance. Regular dancing? We’re not so good at that.
I took ballroom dancing in middle-school. The only thing I remember about it is always being paired with the shortest dude and how to do the boxy dance move doo-dad.
I’m not sure how Mr. S and I will handle our first dance as far as “moves” go. Maybe we’ll just wing it? That sounds like us. We do, however, have a pretty good idea of what we want our first dance song to be– “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson. It’s a sweet song, but also sort-of fits in with our omnipresent “We’re going to be who we are, damnit” theme. Life and love are not always ponies and rainbows, but we’ll always be there to back each other up.
Without further ado, here’s the song if you haven’t heard it. (And yes, it was on that Old Navy sweater commercial. Leave me alone). Read more…

A month or so ago, Mr. S and I went on an epic adventure. We went to visit Tiffany & Co. to look at wedding bands! My engagement ring is from T&Co., so naturally we want to have our wedding bands from there, too.

I haven’t really talked much about the general feel of our wedding. I think I’ll do that, mmkay? But instead of blabbering in sentence form, which I love to do, I’m gonna make a LIST! That’s right. It’s going to be repetitive and awesome. And not comprehensive, because I tend not to roll that way. In no particular order. So, yeah. You’ve been warned. Read more…

In July, I found this post by Mrs. Candy Corn. She wrote about her ceremony reading—excerpts from Sandol Stoddard Warburg’s I Like You. By the end of the post, I was trying not to start boo-hooing. I thought it was sweet, lovely, and fit Mr. S and me perfectly. I added the book to my laundry list of things to get.
I looked for the book everywhere. Nobody had heard of it, and I think they thought I was batnuts crazy, to be honest. Why would I want this little ol’ children’s book written in 1965? I’d end up blabbering on about how fabulous it was, how I couldn’t read through the excerpts I’d read without crying, and other crazy things. I was a woman in love. Read more…

All I want is you, will you be my bride Take me by the hand and stand by my side All I want is you, will you stay with me? Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.
Ever since we’ve been engaged, perhaps even before, I’ve wanted “All I Want is You” by Barry Louis Polisar to be played as we walk down the aisle after we’re married. (Recessional, I think, in fancy-wedding-speak.) I just think it’s perfect, magic, and, well, awesome.
Imagine being surprised as a guest as that played at the end of the wedding! Somebody singing the song up front! Instruments popping up (banjo? harmonica?) and playing it! Just fantastic.

Hey guys, you might have seen me around these parts before, non?
From now on, you all may refer to me as Scissors, or Miss Scissors if you’re nasty.
I was checking my email, doo-doo-doo. Just a normal email check. It’s not as if I were hoping for an email about my application. Me? Pfft. I nonchalantly opened my email, read it, gave myself a pat on the back, and moved along with my day.
