Mrs. Socks nominated Mrs. Sewing’s photo editing tutorial as a post that really helped her. She says, “It came at just the right time for me and encouraged me to continue playing around with Photoshop.”
~~~
In my possession are all the engagement photos we took! *claps hands excitedly* However, Sewing-Mom was a little stressed out at the idea of me posting her unedited pictures up on the internet. Now, I don’t really want to wait for her to go through and fix them all (as we all know, this can take a while!), so I asked if I could fix them up instead.
“Sure… just make sure you said that you did the editing, not me.”
Of course Mom, I wouldn’t want to taint your image.
So since photo editing is a relatively unexplored, new territory for me, I thought we could go through it together. Today we’ll go through some of the basics. (There are many, many more complicated and professional methods, but the following will be good to start off with, I hope!)
First, open up your photo (in this case one of my e-pic teasers) in Photoshop.
One of the best wedding cards we received was actually made from our own invitation (hence why I would think it was the best? How narcissistic).
But really, I think it was a really clever way of re-purposing our invite!
And since I just so happen to have my cousin’s wedding to attend, I thought I’d do something similar with her invitation. Read more…
Welcome back, wedding season! My cousin H is getting married next week!
Her mom decided that it would be good to give the bride a scrapbook full of advice from all the married ladies in the family. Sounds like a nice present right? Not that I think she needs advice. She’s very practical and smart.
Anyway, my aunt gave me a page to complete, despite my warnings. I haven’t even been married a year yet—my advice isn’t worth beans.
But it was a serious assignment, so I took it seriously.
Workplace all set up, with cousin-in-dress picture ready to go.
Leaving Hiroshima, we headed to Fukuoka to meet up with Mr. Sew’s parents. They live in Sasebo, which is near Nagasaki, and decided to bus up to visit with us for a day.
Mr. Sew’s dad wanted to check out a nearby park (Ohori), which had a traditional Japanese garden and the fastest-swimming koi I have ever seen.
As we left Tokyo on the shinkansen that Saturday morning, we traveled back in time to a more traditional, more historical Japan: Kyoto.
I cannot say enough about how awesome the Capsule Ryokan we stayed at was. The owner greeted us at the door (in very good English, I might add), and showed us how our room worked. Yes, the room required explanation. It even came with a binder of instructions! Every Sew’s dream room! Read more…
After we traipsed around Tokyo with animals, the Glasses and more anime than I’ve ever seen in one place, it was time to get into full-tourist-mode.
We bought a one day free pass for the Tokyo subway, and off we went. Our first stop was the Ginza.
After about five seconds we realized we were way too poor and frumpy to actually do anything in the high-end shopping district. So we bought an $8 dollar salad (with pumpkin in it!) and considered our journey there essentially over. Read more…
Three of the last four weddings I have attended have involved Asian brides. And you know what that means, right? Dress changes!
Though I may only be half-Asian, I fully look forward to and embrace the tradition of changing one’s dress several times throughout the reception. Indeed, I had it all planned out. In addition to my traditional white gown and Chinese cheongsam, I would also wear a uchikake - the Japanese wedding kimono.
After 20 days, I feel like I could write 50 posts on our honeymoon. But this is a wedding blog and not a deranged-fangirl blog, so I’ll *try* and keep it to a minimum.
Now, here’s basically how this trip happened. Mr. Sew planned everything. He did all the reading, all the talking, all the guessing, and all the map-directioning. I, his wifu, stood faithfully by repeating the same litany of Japanese words I had picked up.
Sugoii! (Unreal!)
Atsuiii…(It’s hot)
Itaiii…(It hurts)
Onaka ga peko peko! (Grumbly stomach…or something)
That, and the repetition of a commonly aired commercial I happened to get stuck in my head… Read more…
Wow, hive. Finally full circle, it’s been a year since my debut as a blogging bee. Happy New Year, indeed!
2010 proved a most excellent year for us, and I will always remember you all for being such a huge part of my life. You know, in that honest, sentimental-yet-still-slightly-creepy fashion of virtual friendship. You welcomed me in, solvedallmyproblems, sent me off, and welcomed married-me back again. You even shared your love with Mr. Sew, though the silly man remained too chicken to stop lurking and create an account. And know that I hold you responsible for giving him the biggest ego ever, seriously.
But now that the wedding is over and re-capped, it’s time for us Sews to go back to the underground we came from. Who knows what’s in store for us next, but God willing, we’ll be hand-in-hand to explore, tackle, chew on, and sew together whatever-it-may-be.
Before I go, I wanted to share my very favorite wedding picture of the day. Which, oddly, is most definitely not Mr. Sew’s favorite picture.
I never found a real guideline for how to plan a second reception (though Mrs. Pretzel helped me figure it out, retrospectively). I guess it’s more a regular party than an expected set of traditions like its more formal cousin, the wedding reception. And I think that’s what our at-home reception was: a chaotic party (revolving mostly around food).
When my family friend said he was building a portfolio for his new videography business, and wanted to use us Sews as guinea pigs, you better believe we were excited!
Ross was super professional, and one of the quickest, most attentive responders of all our vendors and friendors. He asked us repeatedly for our input, things we liked, didn’t like, songs, etc.—but I tried to stay vague! After all, I wouldn’t want to weird-it-up with some wacky request for synchronized light saber fights.
But you know what? Even without any direction from me, I think he captured our spirit perfectly. Check out our highlights video:
With everyone seated with cake and champagne, my very first college friend and Mr. Sew’s roommate for two years stepped up to the microphone.
As our friend who knew us before we knew each other—he shared a short, sweet, and slightly silly sentiment before delivering his Japanese toast, which was written on a piece of paper by Mr. Sew’s dad the day before. Read more…
