I wish that I could say that our wedding was perfect. Not many weddings are. I just wish our wedding had been a little bit closer to what I had been expecting. I’ll post in depth recaps later, but right now, I just have to get this off of my chest.

What do I say to my readers on the night before our wedding? What can I say that expresses my gratitude, my overwhelming thankfulness for all of your support, for all of your encouragement, for all of your love during the last ten months? Being thousands of miles away from my family, from my friends, from my vendors (!), I couldn’t have made it without you all.
Thank you.
And do you know what the funny thing is? I wouldn’t have done all of this without you either - all those little words, like "awesome," and "beautiful," and "woot! woot!" were tiny little seeds of creativity that you, my readers, planted in me. And my, how our wedding has grown! I go into tomorrow with a song in my heart, a smile on my lips, and with a knowledge that if our wedding is beautiful, it is because it was a team effort.
Thank you, everyone, for everything.
With all of my love,
Shortie

It was sad really. Shortcake had had a nice run on the WB, and then, *POOF*, one pre-wedding visit to her floral event designer’s studio and she “kicked the bucket, shuffled off her mortal coil, ran down the curtain, and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible”…

I’m scrambling to get pictures of all our details before we pack them off for the reception venue, and scrambling to write posts before I have to leave my darling readers for our wedding and honeymoon (poor me, hey ). So, with that in mind, here is the fastest DIY post ever!
- get cheap frames from a dollar store
- spray paint them
- fill them with paper and designs of your choice
- insert the paper into the frame
- display!

Perhaps I’ve been spoiling you guys with too many details of our big day, or perhaps you haven’t had your fill of Shortcake quite yet… in either case, I’ve decided to keep some aspects of our wedding semi-secret. However, as anyone close to me will attest, I am SOOOOOO bad at keeping (my own) surprises - so maybe I’ll just share some eensy weensy little snippets of our favors. Can you guess what the tag and label theme is?

One of the most thrilling parts of getting married, I’m sure many of you will agree, is getting dolled up. Whatever your personal style is, there is just something so special, so very magical about choosing your wedding day attire (ignoring the fact that finding those pieces can be very frustrating).
For me, a never-to-be reformed sparkle lover, a vintage-detail collector, and a bona fide girly-girl, putting my big day ensemble together was especially enjoyable.
I was heavily inspired by these following images (warning: those readers with overactive salivary glands should not proceed past this point):

We made these bouquet charms as a handy dandy way for the bridal party to keep their bouquets separate (why does “keep it secret, keep it safe” immediately spring to mind? ) They were very simple to construct, and took very little time to put together.

We really, really need some prayers and well wishes for a sunny Saturday, please!
Does anybody know of some cool indoor locations for wedding photos in Fort Langley, or Langley, British Columbia?

One frustrating aspect of having a 1950s-inspired vintage wedding is that many people, after having asked you about your wedding, simply don’t understand what on earth you are talking about. “Ooh!” they cry, “A 1950s wedding? So, like Grease? Are you going to wear a poodle skirt?” D’oh! Yes, we are having a 1950s wedding. Yes, poodle skirts were a fad in the 1950s, but for the teenager set! I’ve always been a fan of mid-century romantic comedies (Tea For Two, anyone?), so my wedding vision was predominantly inspired by those celluloid film images, rather than Rizzo and crew. In particular, Marilyn Monroe served as the direct inspiration for our colour scheme— Read more…

After much trial and tribulation, the bridesmaid dresses are finally almost altered.

As many of you know, I’ve been greatly influenced by mid-century weddings. The time period between 1948 and 1964 holds so much charm and fascination for me that it was a natural choice and source of inspiration for our wedding. Many of my earlier posts at Weddingbee explored this topic in great detail!
Below is a compilation of my favourite vintage links, comprised of websites and some unusual sources of invaluable information!

I’m going to have a really, really hard time letting go of MS Weddings magazine after our wedding.

Many of my afternoons as a teenager were spent squirreled away in the corner of my high school’s library. My father, who taught at the school, often had PM A.P. courses to teach, and because I was ride-less, I had to come up with after school diversions. So, when I wasn’t singing in the choir/captaining rugby/making strange machines for the Physics Olympics/volunteering it up, I would head for the library and curl up between the stacks with a stack of Lynn Johnson collections. I followed For Better or For Worse devotedly until a couple of years ago, and returned in time to read her farewell post. Luckily, and unexpectedly, Johnson is not only rerunning the 29 year-old comics—but redrawing and redoing many of the story lines!
Here are some of my favourites from Elizabeth’s wedding to her childhood sweetheart, Anthony (click to enlarge):
