I’m off to gargle some apple cider vingegar, ya’ll.

Honestly, I did enjoy my shower for the most part. It was lovely to see everyone in one place (and wearing pink!), and in such high spirits. However, I was really, really, REALLY uncomfortable being the centre of attention for such a sustained length of time. Having everyone looking at me (and laughing when I spilled food on my dress) was such an awkward feeling—I wanted to hide, but where do you hide when all eyes are on you? Read more…

Mr. Shortcake and I aren’t the most regular of folks. In any given moment, either one or both of us will be making faces, speaking in cartoon voices, and generally being rather ridiculous. I’m particularly prone to breaking out into spontaneous song and dance routines in public. We can’t help it - we’re just silly people! Our wedding, as elegant and beautiful as some parts of it may be, is definitely going to reflect that quirky aspect of our relationship. Our cake topper isn’t the most chic and minimalist one out there. Our first dance routine (a surprise!) is definitely over-the-top something (remember, it’s a surprise! No adjectives allowed!). Our centerpieces (which I may or may not get a chance to blog about) are definitely whimsical. Read more…

Mr. Shortcake works out everyday, lifting heavier weights than me, all in pursuit of a Schwarzenegger-esque bod. However, as muscle-ripply as this makes him, it also makes it very difficult for him to find clothes that fit him. It also made shopping for a tuxedo that much harder! If your groom is in such a predicament as well, check out this uber-helpful guide I stumbled across at Cocktails & Details!
If your groom has a different-than-average body shape, how is he finding ways to dress himself for the wedding?

(Sister Shortcake and friend started baking cupcakes at midnight)
Because we had the bridal shower the next day, we had to leave my engagement party early. My mother, Sister Shortcake, a dear friend, and I stayed up until four in the morning setting up all of our decorations and preparing food for the next day.
Good thing too, because the next morning, guests started arriving at 10 AM, instead of at noon as the invitation had stated! Read more…

If you remember, back in June Mr. Shortcake and I made our first, last, and only trip home before the wedding. We had a rather ridiculously large to-do list to accomplish (which we did, with the help of your suggestions!), and one of the items on that list was my bridal shower. Read more…

DIY-ing the calligraphy the invitation envelopes was no easy feat. In all, it took over 50 hours to complete the calligraphy - and that’s not including the 20-odd hours I put into learning how to do it properly. With that in mind, calligraphy is NOT for the the faint of heart, but can be replicated with many different script fonts on your printer, and can even be done fast-and-dirty style with calligraphy markers. However, if you are willing to put in the bride-hours, calligraphy is an immensely satisfying project - but one that is perhaps best-suited for brides with long engagements or ample spare time! *A play on the UBC Arts student body chant: “Bigger is better, Arts kicks %ss!”
We’re so excited! Mr. Shortcake and I are having our engagement pictures taken at our gorgeous alma mater, the University of British Columbia, when we arrive in Vancouver.
I thought I’d share some of it’s beauty with you all before we have our pictures taken. UBC has so many different places to take photographs that it’s really quite hard to choose only a few spots.
Should we snap some shots in the moody and ethereal Nitobe Japanese Garden?

Well, there is less than a month left to go until our wedding, and I am surprisingly more calm than I was at the six-month countdown mark. I think it must have something to do with the fact that I am too busy to think about anything right now. Although I may feel calm, my skin is worse now than it has ever been in my entire life. Boo.
When I was a teenager, I went on three consecutive courses of Accutane, which effectively cleared up my skin and scars (I didn’t have pockmarks or anything, just brown spots), and left me with clear skin for over seven years.
Now, enter sudden-death wedding planning. Read more…

I think there must be a happy medium between a too-long engagement and a too-short engagement. We have been engaged for a year now, and we have been unhappily floating in that sticky morass known as “OMG we can’t wait for this all to be OVER” for at least three months now. Read more…

Well, she is finally here, in our house, on the bed in the “wedding room” (as I affectionately call the guest room now).
She is resting there, carefully folded (squished, she complains) in a cotton garment bag, lightly veiled from the all-seeing eyes of one Mr. Shortcake. Read more…

If you liked my rehearsal bouquet, you’re going to adore this wedding!
Megan Hunt and David Homan got married on May 31st, 2008 at the The Slowdown in Omaha, Nebraska. Like most couples getting married, they were blissfully in love. Also like many couples, these two were unaware that their wedding details would send one Miss Shortcake over the edge into a blissfully sweet, sugary coma of joy.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my wedding planning, is that if it feels good, do it. And if you have little niggling thoughts that won’t go away, don’t do it.
Quite simple really.
One of my glue-fume-induced bouts of creativity saw me making hand sewn felt and vintage button flowers to embellish my and my bridesmaid’s bouquets. I had them all ready to go…
