After a six hour drive (with lots of stops for sight seeing along the way) we made it to Hotel Parador located between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Once again, everyone was so nice and helpful. On our first morning, with no plans, we decided to explore the hotel grounds. There were trails all over the place.
It was probably not yet seven in the morning in these first two pictures. I should not that our sleep schedule went with the sun while on our honeymoon, so we were in bed around eight or nine and up by five. Read more…

Have y’all missed me?! I had planned on getting down to honeymoon recaps sooner, but my computer decided to kaput on me. I’ve been using the public library down the street, but the librarian wasn’t so keen on my using a public computer to blog. So now with a new computer and our hundreds of honeymoon pictures transferred, I’m ready to share!
I mentioned before I knew very little about the honeymoon. While we waited at our gate the (very early) morning after our wedding, I got Mr. Skunk to spill. The itinerary involved two days at Arenal Volcano and three days on the beach at Manuel Antonio. I was excited but also a little apprehensive. Mr. Skunk booked the whole honeymoon through LivingSocial. In case you didn’t know, LivingSocial is a flash sale site that has one deal per day. I usually research the heck out of vacation deals, and here I was leaving the whole thing up to Mr. Skunk and deal site? Call me converted. I think this post and the next will help convince you if you’re on the fence like I was.
My worries were eased as soon as we got on the plane and I managed to get a few drinks in me. We totally blabbed that we were on our honeymoon to get these babies fo’ free!

I think, at least. We left our wedding without signing the marriage license, so we’re going to get working on that soon. But we’ve been declared husband and wife by a practicing member of the clergy, so I’m calling it. I’m officially Mizzus Skunk.
The past two weeks have been a whirlwind. We are so happy to be home, though. First thing we’re doing is cookin’ up some collards, bacon, and fried eggs for breakfast and settling in with all the Walking Dead and Survivor (don’t laugh) that we’ve missed. I’ll get down to the nitty gritty here soon, but for now, here are two teasers.

Y’all I’m sitting here with my ladies painting our nails gold. Yes, it’s just before midnight the night before our wedding. But for the second night in a row, my usual narcoleptic self can’t seem to get sleepy. I can’t imagine why.
Hive, thank you for your support, wisdom, and encouragement. I feel so honored to be in y’alls company.
Skunky bridesmaids, I’m so lucky to have you by my side. You’ve been nothing but the absolute best and I love you all so much.
Mr. Skunk, words cannot explain how much I love you. Let’s get this adventure started!

Way back when…okay really like ten months ago, I was a regular on the waiting boards. I was speculative about when the big day would be.
For a while, I was sure we were on the same page and that it was going to be a holiday proposal with plenty of time to plan. But then mid January rolled around. Mr. Skunk’s grandfather passed and I felt selfish for even thinking about a possible proposal. I stopped lurking around on Weddingbee and tried to be as supportive as possible to Mr. Skunk. It was a really hard time for all of us.
And then out of the blue, he proposed. It was magical and fantastic and we promptly decided to plan a fall wedding.
And then a couple weeks later, Mr. Skunk lost his job. I honestly think he handled it a lot better than I did. I cried. Read more…

Yea, yea, yea. It’s our wedding week. And I’m just now getting around to posting engagement pics. So shoot me.

Several weeks ago, I got a beautiful invitation in the mail. It was to my very own bachelorette weekend! BM C. Bear totally outdid herself (and even put our wedding invites to shame!). The first card described that Friday night would include a movies and lingerie shower. Saturday, we would tour a few north Georgia wineries and then head back to the cabin for dinner and a kitchen shower, and Sunday, we would shop ’til we dropped at the North Georgia Outlets.

Friday night was soooo much fun. I had come down with some seriously yucky sinus infection, so naturally, I started downing some whiskey. Everyone got in on some drink of their choice and pretty soon we were a giggly bunch. We played Loaded Questions (Bridal Edition, thanks to BM C. Bear) and opened gifts. I got lots of frilly things that I won’t post on the interwebs, BUT there was one gift that had me cracking up. For the record, this is a terrible picture of me, but I just had to show off what BM C. Koala said was, “really the only thing you’ll need to be wearing anyways.”

Yo dudes and dudettes. I’m finally ready to share the Skunks’ RSVP turn out.
We sent out 83 of the 85 invitations that we bought. I ended up giving the other two to my mom, so now, I sadly don’t even have one for myself. Those invitations belonged to 168 potential guests.
That number may or may not be right. I tried to guess whether or not whole families would come or not. And while I didn’t count little babies, I counted bigger babies if I thought they might eat or have a beer. (You never know, we Skunks get wild.)
I thought I’d thought of everything when it came to the reply cards. Read more…

Y’all I’mma fixin’ to get up on my soapbox. And it might get ugly.

I’ve been wanting to write this post for a while, but I was sure that once the wedding got closer, it would no longer be relevant. That hasn’t happened, so here goes.
We’re less than two weeks out to the wedding. In addition to schlepping bread to farmers’markets five days a week, babysitting three, and helping out another pastry chef as needed, I’m also supposed to be getting bride brain. Or so I’ve heard. When I do have a few moments that aren’t devoted to sleep or sneaking in a quick sesh at the climbing gym, I’ve shopped for two awesome Halloween costumes. And last night I carved a pumpkin.
(personal photo)
Actually, Mr. Skunk carved (word up y’all, if you want your mister to join you in cheesy holiday traditions, get power tools involved) while I looked on giggling in excitement.
I keep getting asked if I’m stressed or nervous. Read more…

Our pastor requires that we meet with him a few times before the big day, but with Mr. Skunk in Madison, we’re just now getting around to it. Our pastor is actually my best friend and MOH L. Bug’s dad so I’ve known him, trusted him, and thought of him as my second dad for all of my life. I was worried it would be a little awkward, but this week we had our first session and it was actually really insightful.
For the most part, everything he asked about, we had already discussed. Finances, kids, alone time. We had it covered. And then he asked, “So why marriage? Why now?”

I wish I had cute handwriting a la Mrs. Seashell. Everyone I talked to spoke about how easy it was just to buy a calligraphy pen and go to town. There was always the ’tracing’ method. And my fiance left me a Leroy Lettering Set before he left for Madison. I opened this thing and almost started crying for all the pieces and confusion! Turns out it’s some sort of drafting tool that will probably sit under my bed until we decide to move.

In addition to the super awesome gifts I have planned for my ladies, I’m also paying to have their hair done by my awesome stylist. I’ve been going to see Becca since I first moved in town and haven’t seen anyone since. She’s seriously amaze balls.
I sent a quick email to everyone to find out what they want so that I could give Becca an idea on timing. BM C. Bear and C. Koala want their hair down in loose curls with either a half french braid or just some pieces pulled back.
BM L. Bug is smitten with low messy buns. You know the ones that look like you just effortlessly rolled out of bed with an amazing thrown together bun, but in reality sat in a stylists chair for over an hour? Yea. Those. I’m kinda smitten too. Read more…
