Wedding Envy, Take 3

November 21st, 2009 @ 2:45 pm by Miss Snow

As I’ve been researching our wedding and elements I want to include, I’ve noticed that I struggle to isolate something like "shoes" or "flower ideas" and find a bunch of different examples. I get too overwhelmed. However, I am excellent at isolating entire weddings I want to steal (is steal too strong a word? Borrow? Be "inspired" by? Hah!). There’s something about seeing one seriously gorgeous wedding and pinpointing all the stuff you love from it!

Oh Snap

November 20th, 2009 @ 10:33 am by Miss Snow

One aspect of our wedding that we really enjoyed researching was wedding photography. Mr Snow works with quite a bit photography as part of his job, and my dad is a photographer. We like snapping pictures, and we like thinking about and trying out interesting styles of photography. In the end, we chose our photographers because of their composition. To us, composition, or how photographers…

Going Green

November 19th, 2009 @ 3:50 pm by Miss Snow

In the first few months of our wedding planning, we’ve been pretty humbled by the process of planning an eco-conscious affair on a budget. In many instances, our desire to take the more environmentally friendly route has meant we’d also need to go green(er) in terms of expense.

“So, How Did You Meet?”

November 19th, 2009 @ 10:16 am by Miss Snow

Oh, the question I dread: "So, how’d you two meet?"

Usually, I mumble part of the story: "At a punk rock show." Then I quickly change the subject.

But this is obviously a big ole fib. The aforementioned show was where I decided that Mr. Snow was actually pretty darn cute. He was publishing a punk ’zine at the time so I got to sit in on interview with the band and watch him take pictures on the stage. He was so cooooool, and I was officially smitten.

The Great Napkin Debate

November 18th, 2009 @ 4:00 pm by Miss Snow

I am having a major napkin crisis. OK, not really, but sometimes it feels that way. Napkins are total utilitarian items; you wipe your mouth, maybe cover a sneeze, and then you forget about it unless things get rowdy a la this:

Oink Oink

November 17th, 2009 @ 11:17 am by Miss Snow

Right now, Mr. Snow and I are in a bit of wedding limbo. We’re too far out to be ultra stressed about our DIY projects (or at least we think we are!), and we’ve already booked all the major vendors. I’m sure the pace of things will increase rapidly after Christmas/New Year's, during which time we’ll finally meet our aforementioned vendors and shoot engagement photos, in addition to seeing family and enjoying the whole Christmas thing.

Honeymoon in Copenhagen

November 16th, 2009 @ 3:32 pm by Miss Snow

Mr Snow and I aren’t planning much of a honeymoon. The wedding itself was all the financial burden we could take on comfortably without incurring debt, so we decided we’d use Mr. Snow’s family’s beach house for a few days after the wedding (all but free!). Or (more likely) drive back to Wisconsin so I can start summer school. :)

Built For Speed

November 16th, 2009 @ 11:13 am by Miss Snow

That’s what I tell people when they ask about my engagement ring. “Yeah, it is built for speed!” It’s a strange answer that’s partially true and partially reflective of my insecurities about how I received it.

See, we don’t have a conventional engagement story. On our seventh anniversary, Mr. Snow and I had a moment of “Are we or aren’t we… ever?”

Flowers

November 13th, 2009 @ 4:08 pm by Miss Snow

A few weeks ago, I promised to discuss our floral decisions. Now that we’ve finally paid our deposit and confirmed some of the details, I can chat a bit more about our floral designer.

For our wedding, we’re trying to avoid wastefulness. Both Mr. Snow and I believe a beautiful wedding can happen without a lot of (for lack of a better word) stuff that inevitably gets tossed out. This extends to our florals. Even though I love love love flowers, I don’t want to be too extravagant, and if there are ways to conserve resources and money in our floral design, we’re going to go for them.

Cake Freak

November 12th, 2009 @ 1:58 pm by Miss Snow

I have a confession:

I am wary of pretty cakes.

Don’t get me wrong, I watch Ace of Cakes and Cake Boss with the best of them. I find cakes shaped as people, automobiles and wintery mountaintops fascinating feats of artistry. I ooh and ahh over little gumpaste butterflies during the Food Network’s “Make a Tropical Paradise” Cake Challenge.

Still, I am utterly confused by the wedding-cake-as-art phenomenon. Comments…

Shower Time

November 12th, 2009 @ 9:29 am by Miss Snow

Tonight I met my only WI bridesmaid, V, for our bi-weekly workout sessions. One of V’s many lovely attributes is her enthusiasm for organizing social functions, outings, and general fun-times. She’s great at getting my introverted self out of the house and doing fun things.

For my wedding, she’s also been great about helping me be OK and excited about being a bride.

Save the Dates

November 11th, 2009 @ 2:17 pm by Miss Snow

This was the first draft of our save the date. We were in a bit of a debate over whether or not our little logo looked too much like the MasterCard logo. I really liked it, but Mr. Snow was undecided. In the end, my mom (Mama Snow?) sealed the fate of this version when she said (jokingly), “So, your wedding theme is MasterCard? Priceless.”…
