So it’s been a little quiet lately on my end. What am I up to, you ask? I have officially gone into obsessive organization mode. Each day I obsess over my To-Do list, update my wedding day itinerary, and write crazy emails to my wedding party about everything I think they need to know. It’s not easy being your own wedding planner. Here are some things I have done that I think brides may find useful:
On Saturday, I went to NYC again for my final dress fitting. Afterwards, some girlfriends and I went to Kun Jip for lunch. As I was pigging out on yummy korean food (again), a sweet voice asked us what we were eating. After pointing it out on the menu, the girls asked, “Are you on weddingbee?” Stunned that anyone would recognize me, I replied “Uh yes. Yes I am!”
They said, “You’re Miss Snow Pea!” I was beaming with pride! What was even more amazing is that Bride Michelle and her 2 girlfriends came all the way from San Francisco and just happened to be in the same restaurant and were seated right next to me the whole time. Now, that’s fate!

Finally, what a relief! When I got the word from Peggy that my invitations were done and being shipped overnight, I began tracking FedEx like a stalker. I would refresh a million times just to see where they were. Gosh, FedEx online tracking is the best thing ever for a busy bride! It arrived exactly on time! I even took off work to wait for the package and get some invitations out the door before 5 pm.
While I was waiting for Mr. FedEx to show up, I began watching Big Love on demand. Crazy episode. Do you think Bill will take on a 4th wife? I began dozing off and tweny minutes into my deep slumber, I hear a tap tap tap on my door. AH, I swear mom I only wore ladies underwear…oh, it’s FedEx! My invitations are here! Yeah! My invitations are here! Mr. FedEx asked, why are you so excited? You don’t even know what it is yet?
The nerve! “THEY’REMYWEDDINGINVITATIONS!” I was actually jumping up and down and clapping as I said that! Please, take me out now!
Anyway, without further ado, here they are:
…SNOW PEA! (It was just too cheesy to pass up!)
This is a project that I was waiting foreverrr to do; since before we were engaged. As an addition to the OOT bags, I included some useful information, i.e., maps, affordable places to eat, wedding itinerary. Most people (me included) forget to bring the invitation or the map with them on the day of the wedding and need a quick reference. For convenience, I included all this information in one small booklet in the form of a Playbill.

…she’ll want a glass of milk.
I need to be kept contained. Give me an idea and I lose total control of myself. Dr. Phil calls it anxiety. I like to call it a fertile mind. Mr. Snow Pea’s mama told me to include a Thank You note in our OOT bags for the hotel room. Hmmm
Okay. Miss Snow Pea wanders around the streets of Manhattan and finds NYC postcards. Hey, this will work! Just write a thank you note on the back of this postcard! How neat! Good job Snow Pea. (Pats self on her turgid and crisp back) Snow Pea begins hand writing all the Thank You postcards and cursing the day OOT bags were invented, when she decides they need a lil somethin’ extra. Just a pinch of essence.
AND BAM!

For our OOT bags, we wanted to include NYC-themed items. Nothing too over the top. Just a touch here and there. Since soft pretzels would not last long, I was searching for a hard pretzel of substantial size. Mr. Snow Pea’s mom ran to Costco for me and picked up a tub of these hard pretzels for $3.99 (50 pretzels). They are about 4.5″ wide and 5/8″ thick, so they were perfect! Read more…

Line of the Day: “Don’t lose anymore weight!”
Quoi? What? Come again? I don’t think I heard you correctly.
I am going to have to soak this up and remember that when the media tells me I am not good enough.
Yesterday I went for a final fitting of my dress in the “cheaper fabric” before they cut the pattern in the “real fabric”. Last Sunday, it was just sewn in muslin. As a wedding gift, the designer had this sample version made in lavender silk taffeta. I can’t thank her enough. It’s a replica of my wedding gown excluding the lace. She figured if they were going to make this for the fitting anyway, why not keep it as a reception dress. What a coincidence - reader Red was just asking me last time if I get to keep the samples. I guess I do!

Line of the day: “We’ll make it so the hem just *kisses* her toe”.
Yippee! My second fitting! During the first fitting, the pattern maker made a pattern based on my friend Karla’s sketch. She fit the pattern on me and then tweaked it to my body. This time she made a revised pattern based on those revisions and completed the shape of the skirt.
I walked down the hallway and up to the door. I opened up the door and there was My Dress. It took my breath away. I could see the potential in it already and it’s still only sewn in muslin.
…call for some refreshing water from Mr. and Miss Snow Pea! I finished our first batch of water bottles last night. I updated the label since my first mock up and added a picture of us in a bubble and a few extra calories. Hey, they say you gain weight when you’re happy!
A virtual oatmeal raisin cookie for anyone who can tell me where I got the number from?

This weekend, I worked on some little projects to avoid getting overwhelmed at the last minute before the wedding. I wrapped up my thank you notes for the shower gifts, created some labels for our OOT boxes, updated our water bottle label, continued my photo guest book, worked on our wedding program, chose our ceremony music, made flower pens, stamped place cards and still managed to attend 2 parties, prune my tomato plants, and paint our crown moulding this weekend.
I literally schedule myself to do certain projects. This weekend, the major projects were getting the placecards stamped and making the flower pens. From Michael’s, I picked up some silk flowers ($1.19/each) and floral tape ($2.39/3 rolls). It was super easy. Just trim stem and wrap with floral tape.
Father O’Neil: And now for our second reading I’d like to ask the bride’s sister Gloria up to the lectern.
John Beckwith: 20 bucks First Corinthians.
Jeremy Grey: Double or nothing Colossians 3:12.
Gloria Cleary: And now a reading from Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians.

The wedding program text is almost complete! We were given a book called Partners in Life and Love by Giandurco and Bonnici. It’s a preparation handbook covering Catholic marriages similar to the book we received at Precana. However, this book contains the format for a Catholic wedding - all the readings are laid out and Mr. Snow Pea and I just have to check which reading we would like to use.
I typed the program up line by line based on this book. Most weddings that I have attended do not include the readings in their program and I keep hearing comments from guests saying, “Oh how are we going to follow along?” So I thought I would cater to all those would want to follow along. It’s a nice keepsake as well.
I briefly worked on our bathroom baskets this week. I am just trying to get as many of the little things done, so I am not scrambling at the last minute. We went to Target and picked up a few things.
Not shown are the Peony lotion and body spray from Bath & Body Works to go with my peony centerpieces and bouquet. I still have to throw some ribbon around the basket and a sign saying “Hey don’t steal any of this stuff”.
I also need to buy a small sewing kit, clear nail polish and panty liners.
They aren’t as “fancy” as I had intended, but I am officially in the “I don’t care anymore” phase of the wedding planning. Anyone else part of that club yet?
I met up with my friend who designed my wedding gown this weekend. She is overseeing all the details and the process while another woman is making the pattern for the dress. She is so meticulous and the coolest chick you will ever meet. She’s a wondeful friend. I trust her totally and I am so grateful she is designing something as special as my wedding gown.
These are the sketches from Karla of dress ideas. They all seem so beautiful that I don’t know which one to chose. I love something about all of them! Currently, Dress #1 and Dress #5 are my favorite.
Help me decide!
Dress #1
Destination weddings are so much fun and more affordable than you might think. Our best friend (and groomsman) was married last year on Holbox Island, Mexico and we all had a blast! The benefit of this kind of wedding was that we were all able to spend a few days together in a wonderful setting just spending time with one another. Weddings are normally so quick and over that you barely get to talk to the bride and groom.
We couldn’t have been happier when we heard the news that our best friend from college was getting married. He, Mr. Snow Pea and I were all in the same Engineering Calculus class. We called him “the old guy” because he was “much” older than us. We were 18 and he was 24. He’s such a wonderful friend. Now they poke fun at me because I am the “old” girl in class who’s getting married.
And now I pronounce you Mr. & Mrs. Asada!
