As I mentioned before, Mama Sundae and I decided to make the table runners she’s making look more “finished” with something black around the edges. She tested a few different types of ribbon as well as some bias tape, and the bias tape won out in both look and convenience. I didn’t know anything about this when I started out, so I thought I would pass along some of what I’ve learned!
Our tables are the relatively standard 72″ rounds, which seat 8-10 people. We figured out that in order to get the runners to go almost all of the way to the floor (they’re about 3 inches off the floor on each side) they needed to be 120″ long. We originally thought that we would also be able to pick the width, but looking at the fabric we ordered we quickly realized that to have the pattern centered we had to each runner as wide as the biggest part of the pattern:
Now that you know our photographers, onto the engagement picture discussion! We’re having them taken in 3 weeks, which is a huge “holy s@#$!!” in my world. We scheduled the session back in February, when June seemed like such a long time away…and here we are. How is it possible that it’s June?! When I looked at my calendar last week and realized the pics were fast approaching, I also realized I have nothing to wear. But I did have a jcrew gift card in my wallet…

Well hello, hive! Apologies for my week long absence. I’ve been drowning in work these days and also enjoying a much needed break over the long Memorial Day weekend, but now I am back! There is much to report, but first things first.
I was getting ready to discuss clothing options for our upcoming engagement pictures when I realized I’ve never written about our photographers…the shame! Like a lot of other people, photography was the most important thing to me aside from our venue. These are memories we’ll have forever and I wouldn’t trust just anyone to capture them. We interviewed several people in the Chicago area, and just couldn’t find a right match with style and budget. There were some that I loved, but they were too pricey. (The one we did consider seriously for quite awhile was Jeremy Lawson…his style is amazing, he’s super nice, and his prices are really reasonable. If you’re in the area, check him out).
I kept coming back to a bio that I loved, the infamous MrsJuliaGoolia. So eventually I looked up the photographer that they used, and found out that they’re in the St. Louis area. On a whim I sent them an email to see if they travel to Wisconsin and inquired about their rates. And can I just tell you, these people are wonderful!

I plan on providing all the guests staying in our hotel with “out of town” bags. I wanted to do something a little different, so I ordered canvas totes from cheaptotes.com. The basic cotton canvas totes are just 99 cents, so I figured I couldn’t go to wrong! I ordered just 5 to test them out, but liked them enough to order the rest.

I’ve had my eye on everything at The MacBeth Collection for quite awhile, but I could never justify actually making a purchase. All of their stuff is painfully cute, but I didn’t actually need a damask trash can. Then a few weeks ago I came across a 25% off coupon, which got my wheels spinning, and the very next day someone suggested using the oval tubs for bathroom baskets at the wedding…purchase justified! I ordered this exact tub for the women’s bathroom:
Horrible title, I know. I would offer up the excuse that it’s Friday and my brain is toast, but let’s face it… my titles are always lame!
Anyhoo, this is a post about socks. As soon as I became addicted to photography blogs and saw pictures like this (via whitebox weddings):

I knew I had to have a sock shot of my very own. I figured the hard part would be convincing Mr. Sundae to go along, but he (albeit reluctantly) agreed right away! It was kind of an, “alright, whatever you want” response, but I took it. The hard part was finding the socks.

They completely stump me. I’ve gotten as far as deciding that we’re going to only do table assignments, not individual seats. Mama Sundae is making a runner for the escort card table (which will be a 6ft table) so we’ve got that covered. I know where the table will be placed in the tent. I’ve even found a calligrapher to write each card for a really reasonable rate. What stumps me is how to display those suckers on the table! Originally, I liked the idea of hanging cards from a “tree” (or multiple trees) like this idea via Style Me Pretty:
I had my airbrush tan appointment last Wednesday, and I was waiting to give a review until after my cousin’s wedding (which was wonderful) to let you know exactly how it went. I was skeptical at first, but in the end I think it was worth it!
It’s definitely not something for the overly modest, although you can decide how much you want to expose. The spa I went to provided paper undergarments which in and of themselves were quite entertaining. I stood in a shower stall and was sprayed down…the worst part for me was holding my arms out and away from my body for so long. My arms were killing me! The actual spraying took about 15 minutes but then you have to stand around and let yourself dry properly before you can get dressed. Aside from my arms and the fact that the spray itself was cold, it was pretty painless.

My hair pins have arrived! They came in the cutest little box wrapped in ribbon, which I excitedly opened to find this:
I wound up ordering the long coin pearl necklace from Etsy, and I couldn’t possibly love it more! I was able to try it on with my dress last month (the dress is hanging out safely at my parents’ house, preventing my urges to wear while watching movies and conducting household chores) and I am happy to report that the necklace fits the style of the dress really well. We decided that it looks best with a double strand, like this:
As I am sure a lot of you know, trying to find a place to honeymoon in September isn’t the easiest task. When we sat down to discuss where we might go, we kicked around several ideas - Greece, but we really want to go there with Mr. Sundae’s best friend who still has family there. There’s nothing like traveling with someone who knows the area so well, but it might be strange to invite someone else along on our honeymoon.
I’ve always wanted to go to Italy, but I have also promised my Aunt (and dear friend) that we will make that trip together. Again, extra person on honeymoon not the best idea.
I was extremely interested in Tahiti, but Mr. Sundae despises long flights more than anyone I’ve ever met. Besides a few islands that are less likely to get hit by hurricanes, the Caribbean is pretty much out during that time of the year. Our friends who got married last September went to Jamaica and had beautiful weather, but I just wasn’t willing to chance it. Murphy’s law is always in full effect in my life. Seriously, always.
I’ve made an appointment for next Wednesday, it’s official. I am entering the world of airbrush tanning. I am in my cousin’s wedding next weekend and there is just no chance I can show up as pasty and white as I am now. I am pretty sure I would reflect the light of the camera flash. I’ve tried the self tanning lotions… but, honestly? I am lazy. The whole applying everyday and waiting for it to dry situation deters me. Pathetic, I know, but true.

We headed up to Wisconsin last weekend to test drive the design for the tables, and it went better than expected! There was so much going on that I didn’t take very many pictures but hopefully you’ll be able to get the idea. The runner now has a black border on one side - my Mom used both satin ribbon and bias tape (you can only see the ribbon in this picture) to try and give it a more “finished” look. Both options looked great but we decided it would be easier for her to use bias tape because it can actually be wrapped around the edge, preventing her from having to finish the edges and then attach the ribbon.

I know that I want my hair half up for the wedding, and when I saw this picture on The Knot I also knew that I wanted something like that to go in my hair:

In just a few short weeks, I will be a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding. We’re wearing brown dresses so she asked that we all find some cute gold shoes to go along with them. I tried a few different pairs, but these shoes from Target arrived last night and I thought I would share.

The heel isn’t very high, they’re shockingly comfortable, and at $22 you can’t go wrong! I know a lot of you are on the market for reasonably priced bridesmaids shoes, so if you are looking for gold these are a good bet. They would even look adorable under big white dress ![]()
