Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.

About Miss Sweet Cream

OK. I have to admit it.

After Mr. Sweet Cream proposed and the sparkly new accessory grazed my ring finger, I didn’t get a manicure!

I know.

And it’s almost been a full year, and I have yet to get one(!!!).

Don’t get me wrong—I love painting my nails and making them look like shiny and kempt. And I am the person who gets that feeling you get when you’re five on Christmas day when Sally Hansen comes out with a new color.

But for some reason I’m not one for shades the color of roses, and going to a nail salon is a rarity for me. I do love painting my nails, though!

This is the laquer color that made me let out a little shriek in the drugstore that made heads turn.

About Miss Sweet Cream

Since Mr. Sweet Cream and I moved into our own adorably cute mid-century house that just needs a little tender love and care, we didn’t get a computer until just recently. I can already hear jaws dropping around the bride community—but it’s true. I did have my work laptop that I took home (of course to do work but also) to browse wedding blogs, research vendors, create detailed Excel sheets, and all the other things essential in the new millennium of wedding planning. So I am not entirely living in the Stone Age.

We were thrilled to finally get our own computer, but I didn’t realize what an absolute pain it could be for a do-it-yourself-er like me. I can’t download fonts on my work computer, so it was off to Mama Sweet Cream’s house to download cursive, bold, and retro fonts from Da Font, Urban Fonts, and Kevin and Amanda.

Here is the font that makes me swoon.

About Miss Sweet Cream

We planned for an October wedding. I knew—although not firsthand—how quickly time would fly. Mr. Sweet Cream on the other hand thought that we had all of the time in the world…until, that is, it came to booking both our dream vendors—our caterer we were lusting after and our church—in the fall. I wish I had a picture of his face when the person at the venue told us the dates left in October. And then the caterer told us the same thing. Luckily we snatched up that date before it was taken by another couple with similar dreams.

Once these big things were signed and sealed we—or I—started to think about the big picture. I had so many ideas, and ultimately I knew that they would eventually have to be edited. I think that I was truly meant to have a small, intimate wedding with the details that paraded through my imagination.

Look at how gorgeous these mismatched, kitschy, vintage place settings look. I certainly could collect 130+ plates, cups, wine glasses, dessert plates, and utensils in over a year! I swear!

About Miss Sweet Cream

I am a bride who loves paper. I love combing through Etsy looking at invitation suites. I love seeing other brides DIY invites and all of the time and planning that was put into them. I love getting invitations for weddings and seeing how each one fits the bride and groom—an invitation with its own personality, whether it’s the font, phrasing, or colors. Before we could get to the invitation stage, I was on a mission: To find the perfect idea for the save the dates.

With a 15-month engagement, I just knew I wanted to send something in the mail announcing our date. Never mind the fact that most of the relatives learned our date during phone calls or at someone’s christening. This date was ours and it needed to be saved in something worth saving—at least for us to save and pull out to remember.

I first fell in love with something like this for the save the dates…

A BBQ Stain on My White T-Shirt

June 7th, 2011 @ 10:41 am by Miss Sweet Cream

Besides crafting and sewing—and loving Mr. Sweet Cream—my next favorite thing has to be food. I’m not talking about shoving some Doritos down my face (although the Spicy Nacho are my fave) or a box of mac & cheese. (Although I may not admit it to some, mac & cheese has gotten me out of a jam after cooking a meal too exotic for Mr. Sweet’s palate.)

I love reading cookbooks, picturing the ingredients simmering together and the possible delishness that could be tasted. I love watching old episodes of Julia Child’s show on the Cooking Channel. And I LOVE looking at the thoughtfulness of delish arrangements of food that compliment each other like instruments in a symphony. So that especially makes me prone to sigh over wedding menus.

I was definitely excited to get some trendy food goodness woven into the wedding.

Think food-truck fun! (Mrs. Earrings makes it look like such a good choice!)

The Hunt Begins

June 6th, 2011 @ 5:05 pm by Miss Sweet Cream

After we got engaged and got our chance to celebrate with friends and family—and reenact bits of the engagement to the shrieks of joy of excited girlfriends (“He literally pulled up onto the lawn of the mansion where—there was a full picnic waiting for us…”), it was time to try to figure out the big things about our wedding.

We both love the fall, so we decided on having it in either September or October. We both wanted something that felt like a great big party—not too fancy, something more laid-back. That’s when the hunt began to find the perfect venue. With dreamy inspiration like this…

About Miss Sweet Cream

Hello, hive!

It’s so nice to meet all of you—even though I’ve been getting your advice and offering input on the boards since Mr. Sweet Cream put a ring on my finger. I wish I could give you all a cupcake! That’s what my college roommate did our freshman year on moving day; she handed out cupcakes to all the new people on our dorm floor. Much to my surprise, it worked out wonderfully in making us new friends. I guess nobody could ever say no to a really good-looking cupcake.

So although I come bearing no cupcakes, know that you can count on me to bear good stories, inspiration, tips, ideas, and bridal-blogging pics that will make you, my fellow bees, weak in the knees.
