Like my last post, this one was difficult to write. My dad won’t be coming to our wedding. He passed away very suddenly from a heart attack when I was 16, almost 12 years ago to this day.

The Dress - To Sew or Not to Sew?

I have been wanting to blog about my dress situation for weeks, but this subject has been really touchy for me! Right after I joined the hive, Mrs. Onion asked me if I would be making my own wedding dress. I’m sorry that I rudely avoided your question, Mrs. Onion! Whether to make or buy my gown was an extremely hard decision to make, and I wasn’t ready to talk about it yet. I seriously labored over the decision for months.
I’ve made some wedding worthy dresses in the past. Lace, Tulle, Satin… these are fabrics that I am very familiar with. My first dress was bias cut and made from chiffon! I was out of my mind. Here are some examples of my work:

Get In Shape, Girl!

I really love to exercise. I actually look at going to the gym as a treat! Don’t look at me like I am crazy, it’s true!!

Before I was laid off, I used to take four aerobics classes a week. I worked in two huge studios and was constantly moving back and forth between the two—walking about four miles a day! (Yes, I was dorky and wore a pedometer to work every day for a month.) My MOH and I were also taking belly dance lessons together once a week. Mr. Taffy lived in downtown Ann Arbor, so I would walk a few blocks to and from my car (and up a flight of super steep stairs) to visit him a few times a week. I would say that I was in pretty good shape!

Rob & Kaylie’s Halloween Wedding - Bridal Details

Kaylie looked stunning on her wedding day! This post is all about her bridal details. Although this was a Halloween wedding, Kaylie chose a traditional look with a vintage twist. (Although she had a few spooky details!) I made her bird cage veil! She really loved it, which made me very happy.

The eyes lit up, and the heart lit up to an alternating pattern in order to resemble a heartbeat—how cute is that!? Rob even put real gauges and dials onto the costume:

Pleated/Ruffled Hair Comb Tutorial

At this point in our planning, I am 98% sure that I will be a two veil bride. I don’t want anything to cover my face during the reception, so I have been thinking about wearing something small, ivory, and ruffled instead. I’ve locked myself in my sewing room (OK, dining room!) and have been testing out some veil alternatives. Here is a tutorial on how to make this lovely little hairpiece:
