About Me: I was born and raised in Maine, now living in Annapolis, Maryland and planning a hometown wedding from afar. I’m nothing short of obsessed with wedding planning, and am loving the do-it-yourself madness that has now taken over my life! As for me, I’m a craft-loving, martini-drinking, girly-girl who loves traveling, photography, my schnauzer, and above all, spending time with Mr. Tiramisu.
This is all starting to get very. real.
I got this in my mailbox this week… I really had to do a double take when I saw my name there!

(sorry for all the ugly blacking out)

When I first started planning, a lot of people gave me the advice to “choose what’s important to you, and spend the money there.” Great advice, right? The flip side of that advice is to choose what you don’t care about, and then skimp on it. Whoa now. That doesn’t sound like so much fun. Something had to go though. In a moment of disciplined budget-wrangling, I picked to throw the cake into the don’t-really-care-about-you category.
I mean really, cake? I’m not even that crazy about it (and believe me, Miss Tiramisu can put back some sugar products). Cake can be highly disappointing. You see it up there on its pedestal, all sugar coated, and you think it will taste as good as it looks. Or you read its buttercream frosted description on a dessert menu and start watering at the mouth. And a lot of the time what shows up on your plate is a crumbly mess coated with a too-sweet paste that makes your teeth hurt.
So cake it is. You’re out.

Justifying gocco purchase = gocco everything in sight until it pays for itself!
Here are the personalized note cards I made for all seven of my shower hostesses. With that many people to gift, it was tough to come up with something easy and affordable. I hope they like them!
Step one: with this much stuff on one screen, gocco foam blocker is your friend:

I’ll be honest and say I didn’t know *exactly* what I was getting myself into. I wasn’t totally naive, and I knew that having a “tent wedding” wasn’t going to be a way to save ourselves any money. I knew the rental costs would add up, and that the planning would be a lot more extensive. Even Mr. Tiramisu agreed that with the new plan to basically rent a lawn and build our own wedding, we’d definitely need the help of a wedding planner.

Part I
Part II
To be honest, I haven’t even mentioned about six other spots that the Tiramisus visited and ruled out. We were starting to get a little overwhelmed with all of the possibilities, and with all of the prices. We made the mistake of starting the search before we really established any sort of budget. The wedding planning had just begun and already we were resigning ourselves to spending a lot more than we wanted at one of these locations which was a lot less than perfect.
Sad little Tiramisus, feeling bad for ourselves, headed to dinner with my dad and step-mom the night before we were to leave Maine. Over dinner, my step-mom happened to mention that one of her friends had been raving about a wedding she attended in the Kennebunkport area, the summer before. Let me guess, I said, we must have visited it- was it at the “$30,000 minimum hotel”? or maybe the “Early-bird special only hotel”? no no, it must have been the “perfect but way too small hotel?” Wedding frustration + usual Miss Tiramisu sarcasm wasn’t a good combination, clearly.

Once upon a time, at the University of Richmond, there lived a young man and a young woman who were destined by fate to meet and fall in love. As was the custom in those days (the far off year of 2000) at the University, men and women’s residences were separated by the pristine (read: leech-filled and murky) Lake Westhampton.
On one fateful evening in November, the stars aligned, and the young Miss Tiramisu ventured across the lake to attend a small gathering of friends (read: get tipsy at a frat party). She hadn’t been at the soiree for more than a few minutes when a young gentleman approached her and offered her some cooling refreshments (read: flat Milwaukee’s Best in a solo cup). She was so charmed by his delightful conversation (read: she liked his dance moves and the way he sang along to Faded by Soul Decision) that she ended up spending the whole evening in his company (read: sure she liked him, but also her friend ditched her and left with some random guy).
The two met again a few days later and shared a decadent dinner, realized how much they had in common, how much the one delighted the other, and eventually, fell very much in love (this part’s true).

Day two of the venue search put us back in my trusty Honda Civic and headed even futher North. We had a long day ahead of us! First stop was Captain A.V.. Nickels Inn in Searsport.

This place advertises online as a $10,000 complete wedding package - how could we not check it out? It was a charming old (very old) house, had a spectacular lawn set right on the ocean, and it certainly would have been a unique spot for our guests.
