Weddingbee

I just stumbled on a little miracle product, and given the current 90-degree temperatures here in Maryland, I thought I would share! The weather has been killing us, as Mr. T and I are moving this week - YAY for our first place together! We’ve been living for the past year in a house together, but we have a roommate- and while I’m going to miss Roommate Tiramisu (ha Brandon, I promised you’d get a little Weddingbee mention!), it’s going to be nice to be living just the two of us in our own place.

Anyway, I was at The Body Shop a few weeks ago buying my favorite body butter, and found this Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream in my bag as a free sample. I have what I consider to be pretty normal skin- a little dry in the winter, and a little oily in the summer. I’ve tried other makeup primers before, but none could seem to stop that sort of oily T-zone look that creeps up on a hot day. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this one works! The key ingredient is “bladderwack seaweed” (mmm, that sounds like something you’d love to slather on your face, right?), and I swear it keeps my face from getting shiny all day long. I used to rely on blotting paper, but I haven’t needed to use any at all since I purchased this stuff.

I don’t think I have ever felt as loved, spoiled, or truly truly lucky as I did this weekend. My maid of honor Carolyn really outdid herself in planning me the most wonderful bachelorette celebration that a girl could ever want, and all of my closest friends helped to make it absolutely perfect.

First off, a humble little confession- I am a blatant Miss Peacock idea-stealer! It started with her goody-bag idea, but it didn’t end there. I mean how cute were the tank tops that she made for her friend Erin’s bachelorette party? How could I resist sending a little link-hint to Carolyn to tell her what an adorable idea I thought matching t-shirts might be?

My bachelorette party is this weekend! I feel like the luckiest girl in the whole world that all of my bridesmaids (well, except for my 12 year-old little sis), as well as two of my best friends from grad school, will be joining me at the Jersey shore for the weekend! My maid of honor Carolyn has done most of the work to put the event together, and much to her credit, has managed to keep the nosy bride (that’d be me) out of it. I’m pretty sure that the girls have a few surprises in store.

I think that it was only to keep me from bugging her about what I could do, but Carolyn agreed to let me put together favor bags for all of the girls. I took a little a lot of inspiration from Miss Peacock. Thanks, Miss Peacock!

I’m the girl from Maine who doesn’t eat lobster, and I actually pronounce the “r” at the end of the word since I lost my accent in college! Despite all of this, I hope our guests will be excited about receiving these this week:

Crazy cheap budget-conscious Miss Tiramisu here, back with some hard-earned research for you all! I posted a while back on the possibility of lighting our paper lanterns with homemade LED throwies. Well we’ve finally gotten around to putting these suckers together. As I said in my last post, I ordered the supplies on ebay. My first mistake was not paying attention to the difference between “diffuse” and “bright” LED lights.

Something old. Check. My Nana is graciously letting me take a piece of lace off of her wedding gown to wrap around my bouquet.

Something new. Check. Take your pick… dress, bracelet, veil, shoes…

Something borrowed. Check. Make that something lost! My friend L. called me this week to tell me that the perfect and beautiful chandelier earrings that she wore on her wedding day- and generously offered to let me wear on mine- have gone missing! Somewhere in Pennsylvania is a box with her wedding shoes, headpiece, and earrings, and no one can locate it.

I had my hair trial last week. It was just so-so and I’m looking into other options at the moment, including totally changing how I thought I wanted to wear my hair. The one thing I do know for sure is that I have always wanted to wear a flower in my hair on my wedding day. I thought about a real flower, but I’m just too much of a planner to not know exactly what it would look like until it arrived on the day of the wedding. Fake is the way to go for me- no wilting, no brown edges, and control freaks like me can know just what they’re getting ahead of time!

There are so many gorgeous hair accessories out there that it was tough to choose one. After searching through a lot of Etsy shops, I found my favorites at Mikiye Creations.

We finally got around to picking out the groomsmen tuxedos a couple of weekends ago. I totally forgot to blog about it because it was such an unexciting experience. With groomsmen spread out all over the east coast, pretty much our only option was Men’s Wearhouse. I don’t think I’ve ever read a review of a wedding tuxedo rental experience that wasn’t without a few mishaps, MW included. So we’re probably looking ahead to some snafus of our own, but hopefully there won’t be anything un-fixable.

Mr. T and I rolled up to our nearest MW, ready to peruse the options. We were handed a book of tuxedo choices, and picked out a couple that we were interested in…

Mr. T: Here are the two that we’d like to look at.
MW employee: Great! But, uh, we don’t actually have the tuxedos here.
Mr. T: Oh. Well I guess this one will be okay then. I’d like to look into purchasing my tuxedo though.
MW employee: Great! But, uh, we don’t actually have those here either.
