I’m not unique in this fact. I don’t even have a sob story to tell about how my life was ruined, and in fact I had a happy childhood during which my parents never fought. Both my mom and my dad are now remarried, and in the end I got an extra (both awesome) set of parents out of it, not to mention a brother, sister, and a slew of cool step-relatives. So I’m really not here to complain. But the truth is, sometimes having divorced parents sucks.
There’s the obvious split up holidays, which I’ve mostly gotten used to, but still manage to have a yearly mini panic attack over. There’s the awkwardness that is unavoidable at events with both sets of families. There’s the question of what to call my brother and my sister- really my step-brother and half-sister if you want to get technical, but those titles seem so weird to me and we’ve never used them. And at the moment, there is the huge bummer of not having my mom and dad sitting together, smiling proudly at my wedding. Read more…

I was SO happy to mail my invitations and get them out of here I thought I was going to burst. We finished the invites about a month ago, but getting all of them assembled, numbered (I almost forgot to number the RSVP cards, even after lots of bee advice!), addressed and stamped took awhile!
My mom and my grandmother helped me to put the finishing touches on our envelopes. First, my grandmother carefully glued these liners into our envelopes:
We only used two different papers because we ran out of the first, but I ended up liking them both.

Like a lot of you, I’m not really all that into the idea of the garter toss. I was planning from the start to leave it out of our wedding festivities, certain that no one would miss it. But I was wrong. And the one who swore up and down he would miss it the most? None other than Mr. Tiramisu.
“How can we not do the garter toss?” he questioned.
“I’ve never been to a wedding that didn’t have it!” he insisted.
The man sees no reason for linens, menus, programs, heck even flowers, but don’t take away his garter toss! So I relented. And now I have this embarrassment to look forward to-

I’d like to introduce you to two of the most excited flower girls ever:
I’ll call the older one “A” and the little toothless one there is “C”.
These two cuties are Mr. Tiramisu’s cousins (A. is his Goddaughter as well), and I have no doubt that they will play their roles as flower girls flawlessly! They take their jobs very seriously, and ever since we asked them to be in our wedding, they have reminded me about it on every occasion where we’ve seen them. Their Mom and I have been emailing back and forth about flower girl dresses for awhile now, and I think we’ve finally settled on this one from Flower Girl Dress For Less:

A lot of ideas have passed through my little head about table numbers. For a long time I wanted to do photos of Mr. T and I at the age that corresponded to the number of the table, like this gorgeous example. When those photos proved hard to track down (Mr. Tiramisu is one of five… it’s tricky to dig through so many piles of photos!), we thought about photos of places we had traveled or were important to us. At one point we considered photos that featured our dog, Duncan, posed with signs showing our table numbers. With time quickly slipping away before the wedding, I decided to go with the obvious choice that is right in front of us- our engagement pictures (all photos taken by the lovely Girls With Big Cameras).

Sorry I’ve been a little MIA this week… I finally made it home to Maine late Thursday night after sitting in some pretty terrible Memorial Day weekend traffic. My big news to share is that on Thursday I graduated from Optometry School! It was four long years (three of which were spent away from Mr. Tiramisu), and I’m so excited to finally be finished with being a student! Read more…

I’m following Miss Cherry Pie’s lead, getting in my car, and making the looooong drive to my wedding location! After a stop in Philadelphia tomorrow, I’ll be on the road to Maine. On the agenda is my first dress fitting(!), a hair and makeup trial, a meeting with the florist, meeting with the rental company to choose linens, stuffing our invitation envelopes, and mailing them out! Fortunately I’ve got a couple of weeks to get all of that done.
Since I’ve been planning from here in Maryland for months, I’ve accumulated quite the pile of wedding stuff. It’s been slowly taking over our dining room, but the time has come to move it to Maine. I’m sure my mom is super excited about all of it showing up at her house in a couple of days- and adding to the piles that I’ve already had shipped straight there.
Take a look and let me know if you think it’s all going to fit in my Honda Civic… and my wedding dress is coming along too!

Mr. Tiramisu graced my left hand with an engagement ring almost exactly one year ago (we celebrated our one year engage-aversary last Thursday! and yes I’m pretty sure that is a word), and now it’s almost time to add another ring to the finger- and one to his as well.

Animoto is this great slideshow making tool that I found out about on the Soiree Special Events blog. I tested it out by uploading some of my favorites from the engagement shoot we had with Girls With Big Cameras. It turned out so cool that I wanted to share it with you all! It’s super easy to use - basically you just upload your pictures, choose music to set the slideshow to, and voila! It’s free for a 30-second slideshow. I decided to pony up the three bucks to try out the full-length version, and here’s what I came up with:
