About Me: I was born and raised in Maine, now living in Annapolis, Maryland and planning a hometown wedding from afar. I’m nothing short of obsessed with wedding planning, and am loving the do-it-yourself madness that has now taken over my life! As for me, I’m a craft-loving, martini-drinking, girly-girl who loves traveling, photography, my schnauzer, and above all, spending time with Mr. Tiramisu.
Just when the gocco was becoming my new best friend, it turned on me. I just spent the last oh, six? hours fighting with this stuff:

Weddings, I realize, are about more than just the bride. Of course there is the oft-overlooked groom to consider, but Mr. Tiramisu almost always graciously takes a backseat when it comes to wedding decisions. This leaves just: the family. Oh yes, just the family.

Am I the only one who wishes they didn’t know about the danger of tanning? The only one who remembers how awesome it was to coat themselves with baby oil, climb out their bedroom window and lay on the roof perfecting the perfect tan? In the wintertime in high school, my best friend Kate and I always bought package plans at the innocently-named “Sun Deck” and I loved my 12 minute sessions, spent rocking out to the personalized stereos inside the little sweat boxes that are stand-up tanning booths. Those were the days.
Now, sadly, we all know someone whose days of tanning caught up to them in a bad way, and every message board post asking about the best way to tan for one’s wedding day has at least one response warning the others with a personal story of skin cancer. If you wanted to hit up a tanning bed now, you’d have to sneak in and out the back door wearing dark sunglasses so no one would recognize you… and it’s taboo for good reason I know.

I love Paper-Source!
LOOK what arrived in the mail late last week:

There you see enough paper to make invites, invite folders + envelopes, RSVPs + envelopes, direction cards and reception cards x 130! (Plus about 20 extra of each for when I inevitably screw up.) Along with my order- which came by way of free shipping!- came the latest Paper-Source catalog. I tossed it aside to get to my beloved paper more quickly- you can see it in the upper right-hand corner there- but happened to pick it up to flip through a little later on.

This coming September I’ll be one of seven lucky girls standing up next to my best friend from high school, Kate, as she ties the knot in Maine. While I chose to go traditional and dress all my bridesmaids the same, Kate is going to mix it up. She chose a fabric and color from Aria Bridesmaids, and we each got to choose the style that we liked best. This is such a great option, and one that I wish I had considered more.
Aria has locations in Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC. If you live near one of their boutiques, you can make an appointment to stop in and try on dresses. If not, they offer a “try-on” program where they’ll send you a few dresses to check out for a $15 credit card deposit per dress. Four of Kate’s bridesmaids headed to the Boston store, 2 out in Ohio used the try-on program, and the lonesome Miss Tiramisu headed to the Washington, DC store this past Sunday.
While in Boston, Kate and the girls had decided on terracotta silk shantung:

I love logging on to stalk my registries and see what’s been bought, and what’s listed in the “still need” category. What is it about getting married that makes me think I’ll suddenly have use for lots of kitchen gadgets, china, and fancy vases? My dad got such a big kick out of me putting a combination cake platter-punch bowl onto my registry that he bought it for me for Christmas. Now how many people can say their dad made such a purchase for them?

I’m going to have to fill this with cake often in order for
Mr. Tiramisu to stop questioning the usefulness of a cake dome.

Hmm… what could be inside the (adorable pink) box?

Yes, more gocco. So sorry if you’re tired of it, because personally I can’t get enough of my new toy…

Here they are! The final design…
The colors are not all there, and the photoshopped colors are a little off, so you have to picture them in dark blue, light blue, and gold (just like the botched Thank You cards). Here are the invitation, RSVP, and reception card designs…

I’m still up in the air about having a groom’s cake… if we do it will hopefully be a surprise to Mr. Tiramisu and look something like this:

*Warning: this post might be a little boring if you’re not doing your own lighting. I really wish this info was out there when I went looking for it though, so I’m going ahead with it. Feel free to skip
In the past few months I think I’ve earned myself quite a few credits in the subject of lighting, with this weekend’s research being about equivalent to a thesis paper. Here’s just another example of something totally unexpected that I’ve had to learn about. Granted, I could have just ponied up the bucks for my rental company to light our tent, but no that would be too easy for the totally cheap frugal Miss Tiramisu. Read on, and take advantage of my research so you don’t have to waste hours of your life on this craziness like I did!
