Like the Lovebirds, the Toucans also went out to buy WiiFit yesterday! I’m hoping that it will help me get back on the exercise wagon. As a former college athlete, I used to be in tip-top shape but since quitting the swim team a few years back, I’ve been on “break” for a very very long time. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to make exercise as my daily routine, that I’m so out of shape and it’s actually frustrating when I work out because I can’t do the things I used to be able to do. You would think that the wedding would motivate me to get in shape, but it really hasn’t been the case. So… I’ve resorted to video game work outs - and enter Wii Fit.
Last night, as soon as we got home from dinner, Mr. Toucan and I hopped onto the Wii Balance Board to test it out. The first order of business was to enter in your height and birth date, so the machine could calculate and track your BMI and weight (sorry no pictures of me doing this :P).
Next, a series of balance tests to determine your “Wii Fit Age.” I didn’t fare so well…
On Saturday, the girls threw me a fabulous surprise bachelorette party! They had planned out a full day, and all I knew was what day, and what time we started! I’m not gonna lie - I was a little nervous about what they had in store for me!
The party started off nice and tame when the girls took me out for a little pampering at Nami Spa.

I think I should first start off by saying, I don’t think I need to lose weight. However, as the wedding gets closer and my stress level gets higher, I’ve found that I also have a never ending appetite (hello stress eater!).
I don’t exactly want to gain weight either. So, instead of limiting my food intake (I seriously feel ill, like I’m going to pass out if I don’t eat when I’m hungry), I’ve been watching what I eat.
I’ve been consciously trying to:
I was doing really well… until today. I caved. I ate my favorite food in the world - FRENCH FRIES.
I really, really love the look of flower girls carrying pomanders. But with 6 flower girls (and 7 children total in the wedding party), having the girl carry pomanders with real flowers might be asking for it… (I’m totally picturing these flower balls being thrown in the air, all around the room, and ending up all squashy). So, the solution was to have the girls carry silk flower pomanders. My uncle in Hong Kong, who works with silk flowers, offered to make us our centerpieces, so I also asked him to make us some pomanders as well.
Here are the ideas/designs that I sent him:
On Saturday, I had my second fitting with Anahit, and let me tell you - the lady worked wonders. The alterations that my dress needed was definitely no easy task. The hem needed to be taken up 3 inches. The neckline was changed to a less severe sweetheart neckline, and the bust needed to be taken in a few inches. The back zipper needed to be taken in 4 inches. And because of the 4 inches that she needed to take from the back, she needed to replace some of the ripple-y ruffles (…technical term you know
) that I lost in the back. Yup, all that in a few weeks, and it came out FABULOUS.
****Mr. Toucan, you can stop here****
Even though we asked a friend to bake our wedding cake for us, we didn’t miss out on a cake tasting! Alex, our baker extraordinaire, was gracious enough to bake us FOUR cakes this weekend for us to sample! She had previously emailed a few ideas for cake flavors, we selected a couple, and she made 2 extra for us to try!
Here’s what we sampled:
On small plate: chocolate with hazelnut mousse and marshmallow frosting. On large plate, clockwise starting on the top: Lemon with white chocolate frosting and raspberry filling, Fiddler on the Roof (not sure how to describe this one - it’s a yellow cake with cocoa and sour cream and almond extract) with chocolate marshmallow frosting, and half lemon, half white layered cake with almond butter frosting and raspberry filling.
Mr. Toucan and I were talking about how close our wedding is, and how we can’t believe that it’s almost here! I asked him if he was nervous at all. He replied that he was just really, really excited! He said he couldn’t wait to be finished with his actuary exam (which is next week) so that he could finalize our honeymoon plans! It was weird, because after he said that, my first thought was, “oh yeah, that.”
Don’t get me wrong - I’m SUPER excited about our honeymoon, but now that we are getting really close to the wedding, I’m just really, really super excited about that. It’s funny because about 6 months ago, I was more excited about the honeymoon than the actual wedding. Now, I’ve flopped. Maybe, it’s because the wedding is so close, it’s starting to feel… REAL.
Are you more excited for the wedding or the honeymoon?
A while ago, I asked the Hive’s opinion on a dress for the end of the night. As I mentioned then, it is customary for Chinese brides to wear multiple dresses on her wedding day - the traditional white wedding dress for the ceremony, a Chinese wedding dress (or qipao) during the reception, and another dress at the end of the night to bid farewell to the guests. Some of you had thought that the dress was probably better suited for the rehearsal dinner or day after BBQ, and Daddy and Mommy Toucan agreed with you! So… it was back to the drawing board!
After my hair and makeup trial, I went shopping with Mommy Toucan (ooooh, I felt so high class with my makeup and hair-did!
). I still wanted a shorter length gown, but it had to be more formal than the previous dress I picked.
We finally agreed on this (click to enlarge):

On Friday, I had my hair and makeup trial with Lypor*! I was really excited, because I haven’t had my hair done since….err… high school prom?Anyway, here’s the obligatory “Before” picture:
Miss Toucan sans makeup, sans hair product.
I have my hair and makeup trial today. I’m excited, but I’m a little nervous, because this is one area in my wedding planning that I really have NO IDEA of what I want. I know I can’t walk into the salon today and just say, “um… make me pretty, please?” I’m pretty sure she’ll want a little more instruction than that…
I printed out some pictures of hair, but they are ALLLLL over the map. I think I want to wear my hair down or at least mostly down. At the same time, will I feel like my hair is actually “done” if I wear it down? I plan on having the stylist try a couple styles today, so we’ll see…
Is there anything that you’re having a really hard time making a decision on just because you have no idea what you want? Please share!
