I told already you one of my truths from my 2 truths and a lie game. My other truth? The proposal. Mr. Toucan did propose to me in a dark, almost empty, parking lot of a hotel! Mr. Toucan faced lots of little obstacles to make the proposal happen, so I thought it was best if he shared the story with all of you.
A Lovely Day For An Engagement
As told by Mr. Toucan
When we told people that we were engaged, they had one question for us.It wasn’t about how we met. Everyone knew that we were college sweethearts and had been together for 5+ years. It wasn’t “What do your parent’s think?” We have known each other for so long, people know that we get along extremely well with each other’s family (Both my and Miss Toucan’s family get along so well, we are all vacationing to Hong Kong together over Christmas.)The question was of course:How did it happen? Where did you get engaged? And the answer was simple. Sort of…

I wanted to thank everyone who played my little game in my very first post! Before I tell you my lie, first one of the truths! For those of you who guessed #3…
(“Wedding Expenses”: I’m guilty (and on more than one occasion) of justifying non-wedding related purchases as “wedding expenses.” Even worse, I think my parents are more guilty of it than I am.)
… you lose! It’s sadly true…
The line between what is really a wedding expense, and what I justify to be a wedding expense is starting to get really blurred. In other words, I totally cheat.
Back in August, I went shopping to buy a dress for a wedding we were attending. I found 2 dresses. One was a strapless black dress with white rose print, and the other a white halter dress. Here is your classic example of me justifying the purchase:

I’ve been kinda excited about the movie, 27 Dresses, ever since I first heard about it on the bee a little while ago. I’m a big Grey’s Anatomy fan, and I love Katherine Heigl!

While at my neighborhood Starbucks this morning (which was already decorated for Christmas!), I saw the sign for personalized Starbucks gift cards! As one of those people who buys gift cards for themselves so they don’t have to carry around cash, I always get excited when new cards come out. This is better!
While Starbucks is advertising them as great holiday gifts, I thought these might make good little gifts for ceremony readers or other wedding helpers.

Since getting engaged, my favorite part of “researching” for our wedding is looking at bridal gowns. Even now, after already purchasing a dress, I often find myself browsing hundreds of pages of magazines and websites, ooh-ing and aah-ing over various designers. It’s my little guilty pleasure.
This morning I was browsing the recent Spring 2008 collections on The Knot, and I noticed how many designers are making short dresses now. Here are some of my faves:

I recently tested out a few different options to decorate votives for my co-worker Sam’s wedding. The inspiration came from none other than Preston Bailey:
Sam’s votives are 2.5 inches tall, so I bought 3 inch skeleton leaves from HQPaperMaker. Shipping is expensive because the company is located in Thailand, however, even with the extra shipping cost, I found that purchasing leaves here were still cheaper than anywhere else I looked.

Greetings, everyone! Before we get to the little game I have planned, I’ll run through some quick little details about me.
First off, I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the hive! I hope that you’ll have as much fun reading about my wedding ideas, as I have writing about about them!
Second, since everyone seems interested in why people chose their characters, I’ll let you in on how I became Miss Toucan. Honestly, I couldn’t decide, so I let Mr. Toucan pick. He picked “Toucan” because it reminded him of a certain favorite beer of his (must be his Irish blood!), and therefore, the most manly icon… go figure!
Third, I like to break-up wordy posts with a picture or two. Since this already seems wordy to me, and we haven’t even gotten to my game, here’s a picture for you. Meet the Toucans!
Here’s us celebrating the end of the summer school semester during Boston’s Restaurant Week. A random fact about Mr. Toucan, he has really long arms- almost freakishly long. He took this picture of us himself!
