Finally - Favors!

February 28th, 2008 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Toucan

I’ve had my favors bought since our trip to Hong Kong in December/January, and I’m finally ready to share them with you! I started with this idea:

Martha Stewart Weddings Spring ‘o7

I was first introduced to blooming teas through Weddingbee Contests, which linked back to one of Mrs. Violet’s posts. Since our reception is a Chinese Banquet, I wanted our favors to match the theme. Drinking tea is strongly embedded in Chinese culture, as it can be used as a sign of respect or gratitude. So this idea worked perfectly!

When Did You Know?

February 25th, 2008 @ 4:55 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Last week, Mr. Toucan and I met with THE MAN - the man that would be marrying us. I was really nervous about meeting with the priest because:

1. I am not Catholic
2. I had no idea why we were meeting, or even what to expect, and
3. I was ridiculously and irrationally afraid that all my nightmares would come true and I’d feel super uncomfortable, and all of a sudden get up during our meeting yell, “Don’t judge me!” and run out of the church. (Luckily, this didn’t happen)

I had really no reason to be nervous at all because the priest just wanted to meet with us to get to know us and get a feel of who we are as individuals and as a couple. After asking about our childhood and our families, he asked us when we knew we wanted to marry each other. I was really unprepared for the question, and had to think about it for awhile. I couldn’t pinpoint one moment in time that I knew I wanted to marry Mr. Toucan. I think it was more of a gradual thing for me. You see, Mr. Toucan and I met when we were in college. Even early in our relationship, at the age of 19, I realized that what I had with Mr. Toucan was special - that he could be “The One.” Over time, I became more and more sure I wanted to marry him. Now, I have no doubt in my mind that he’s the one for me.

When did you know? Was there a specific moment? Or was it a gradual thing?

Toucan Tips For Running Of The Brides

February 19th, 2008 @ 5:00 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Beantown ladies, Filene’s Basement Running of the Brides (RotB) is THIS FRIDAY, February 22 at the Hynes Convention Store! As you may recall, I bought my dress in the last Boston Running of the Brides! Since RotB season begins again this Friday (Upcoming RotB events will also be in New York [2/29] , Atlanta [3/21], Paramus, NJ [2/28], and Tysons Corner, VA [4/4]), I thought I’d share some of my Running of the Brides tips.

First, you don’t actually have to “run” with the brides. You can avoid all chaos and go to the store after 10am, and leisurely browse the racks. It’s true that all the racks are stripped in the morning in less than 1 minute, but there are WAY more dresses than brides at the running event, and all the dresses are back on the racks by 10am. I heard of lots of brides who even went to the sale after work, and still found dresses.

However, if you do choose to “run” with the brides (and I will say that it is a BLAST, but not for everyone), here are Miss Toucan’s Tips for Running of the Bride- Hardcore Style.

Husband Of The Year

February 13th, 2008 @ 3:09 pm by Mrs. Toucan

For this Valentine’s Day, I found Mr. Toucan the BEST present EVER*. I’ve decided to enter him into the Husband of the Year Contest**. Unfortunately, I am sad to report that our entry was disqualified since we aren’t married yet (boo! silly technicality!). Anyway, after seeing the results, I’m not sure he would have stood a chance anyway!

Getting The Guest List Is Like Pulling Teeth

February 11th, 2008 @ 12:51 pm by Mrs. Toucan

While I don’t really rely on the Knot checklist, I do check it from time to time. After all, it’s fun to check off things! However, there is one thing that has been on the top of the list for MONTHS that I’ve been trying to check off, but haven’t been able to.

The guest list. Getting the guest list together has been more complicated than I imagined. Since our wedding is mostly family, I had a general idea of who was on the guest list, so the fact that I hadn’t received a list from my parents was fine - until now. I’m getting ready to send out invitations, so as you might imagine, I actually need to know who I am inviting!

Finally, I asked my dad about the list again, and out spilled another complication. First, I got the usual, “Why do you need to know right now?” Then, the rest of the exchange:

Sad Face, Happy Face

February 5th, 2008 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Toucan

Beantown 0, Big Apple 1.

It was a sad night in Toucanland. And a happy one for the 95% of football fans (I am well aware of the hatred towards Boston sports).

Sunday night, we held a small football party. We were really loud. And then, at the end, really quiet. After all our guests left, I sadly started cleaning up. Mr. Toucan got up and walked to the bedroom. I assumed he went to quietly sulk by himself.

A couple minutes later he emerged - like this:

The Boy Liked The Wedding Mall!

January 31st, 2008 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Before our trip to Hong Kong, I was told by many people to go check out the wedding mall.
What?! There’s a wedding mall?!Oh yes, in Hong Kong, there’s a whole mall dedicated to wedding stuff.
Why isn’t there one in the US? Beats me - there should be wedding malls everywhere!

Anyway, at the news of the the existence of this wedding mall, I felt obligated to go. After we finished touring for the day, I dragged Mr. Toucan and some others on to the subway to go here:

Ring Things For Boys

January 29th, 2008 @ 3:16 pm by Mrs. Toucan

… and sports nuts like me!Miss Peacock’s post from yesterday reminded me of my own alternative to keeping my ring safe. I always take off my ring when I’m cooking or cleaning, so I needed a little holder in the kitchen to keep my ring safe. How tragic would it be if it actually fell down the drain!?

Then one night, Mr. Toucan presented me with a little gift - the most awesome idea (to me at least) for a ring holder ever:

Ta-dah! Presenting Mr. David Ortiz, aka BIG PAPI, the large father. :) (please be nice about my sports affiliations! I’m locally tied to them - I can’t help it!) :)
