My friends were doing a super job of keeping me entertained, but I was getting ants in the pants and wanted to get the show on the road! We were supposed to start the ceremony at 6:30 and it was now 7:00.
Magic Alie finally came in and let us all know we were ready for go-time and roughly described what our new ceremony site looked like. This did my brain in a bit. For a year, I knew exactly what the trek down the aisle was going to look like. Now, I had no clue. The control-freak part of me started to panic a little, but “I just wanna get married” me squashed her down and said, “Screw it! Let’s bustle this dress and get hitched!”

With the downpour of rain, Mr Waffle was beside himself. He thought I was surely broken-hearted and having a meltdown over the rain situation because he knew how hard I worked for the past year and how carefully I planned all the details for a garden wedding.

Needless to say, he was slightly miffed when he saw these pictures and heard about the fact that I was laughing and being entertained by my besties.
It started innocently enough.

At one point, while I was getting my hair and makeup done, I heard rumbling and hushed conversations about rain and knew that Team Waffle had moved everything from the ceremony site to the tent. There was a brief sprinkling and the sun went back to shining, so the team moved everything back outside. It looked something like this.

I know “guys getting ready” posts aren’t necessarily popular, but I would feel a huge sense of guilt if I didn’t give Mr Waffle and his posse their shining moment.

I’m not exactly sure of all the details of Mr Waffle’s morning. He couch surfed at a friend’s house the night before because he is sweet and traditional and didn’t want to see or hear from me until we met at the end of the aisle. He waited until I was gone to brunch to come home and print out his vows and then had lunch with his family.

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”
While Mr Waffle and his people got ready, I seized the moment to get dressed, catch a glimpse of the ceremony/reception set-up and take a few solo pictures in my gown.
I believe the photos can tell you the story…

“Wow. This is really happening.”
That was the thought that went through my head when we arrived at Hummingbird House after brunch.

The venue had chilled champagne and a goody basket waiting for us. We unloaded our bags and Melanie arranged her tools.

I will admit that when something exciting is about to occur I sleep about as well as a kid on Christmas Eve. My head swims with glorious images and I wake up every hour on the hour. Knowing this about myself and knowing that I wanted to be well rested and not have dark circles under my eyes in our wedding photos, I popped and extra strength Benedryl before going to bed and had one of the best sleeps ever.
I rolled out of bed at 9AM with a blissful smile on my face and typed up my final post as a “Miss” for the hive. The sun was shining and no hint of the ominous rain to come was in the air.
Around noon, Ms. Pigeon swung by my place to whisk me away to my bridal brunch with a brief stop off at Nordstrom’s to pick up my gift of monogrammed hankies for Mr. Waffle.

We had planned the rest of the day before the wedding to be pretty chill and relaxed. After rehearsal brunch, MOH Sweet Pea and I went to get our nails done and then it was off to the Dog and Duck Pub for some grub and hangin’ with friends and family. I was enjoying myself, but there was a little voice in the back of my brain that wouldn’t be quiet and said, “You need to finish your vows.”
You see, I had started my vows, but was having trouble finishing. I was feeling intense pressure for them to be great…REALLY great. They were dripping with beautiful and flowery metaphors with a witty line or two thrown in for good measure and a laugh, but something wasn’t quite right about them and they needed to be finished. How is it that I couldn’t find the words?
Mr Waffle and I went back to our apartment and he hurriedly packed his overnight back as midnight was looming. He’s a very traditional and superstitious guy and technically seeing me on the day was not an option for him. As he rushed out the door, he gave me a kiss and said, “Don’t forget to turn the AC back on. You’ll get hot. Bye!” Then he was gone.

With our bellies full of brunch, we made our way to the space in the backyard that had been set up for rehearsal.

Grammy Waffle walked me down the “aisle” while I was obviously being silly and my “bouquet” was in front of my face instead of my belly button like Magic Alie told me to do. Normally, I am not a person who behaves this way at rehearsals, but my nerves (and mimosas) must have been kicking in…just a pinch.

On Saturday morning, we woke up a little fuzzy from our stag and hen dos, but were soooooo very excited to skip over to Captain Toes’ and MOH Sweet Pea’s house for our waffle bar rehearsal brunch!
We arrived to the smells of bacon frying and waffles being cooked on their irons! Yummmmmm!

Magic Alie, MOH Sweet Pea and my other amazing friends had created such a wonderful set-up for our brunching and rehearsing! If you look closely, you can see how they used our save the dates and other wedding related invites in the decor. So clever!
They had a mimosa and bloody mary bar…

With so many guests pouring in from out of state and country throughout the week leading up to the big show, Waffle and I decided to have several events along the way to entertain and spend time with everyone. Starting on Wednesday we had lunches, dinners, shopping and even a night out two-steppin’ at the legendary Broken Spoke. Can I just say how happy I am again that I finished everything the weekend before things got rolling? Seriously, ladies, it makes a world of difference!
So, with all of the hugs, catching up and preliminary “Welcome to Austin” activities out of the way, it was time for us to get down and have some serious, crazy fun at our Stag and Hen Nights (bach and bachelorette parties)! Woohoo!

We started off with a small group at Ms. Pigeon’s house for a lingerie shower with ladies who were involved in the wedding. I just wasn’t sure I’d be comfortable opening boxes of naughty underpants and things in front of a large group. Then, there was a knock at the door…

5…Snorkeling

I have mixed feelings about snorkeling, but it is still in my top five because witnessing reef life is magical. Once I got used to it, I seriously enjoyed it, but the road to serious enjoyment was not easy.

For all of you fine folks who are planning on honeymooning, vacationing or dreaming about honeymooning/vacationing in Maui, Waffle and I decided to condense our 10 day stay into our top ten Maui moments for you!
10…Aloha Mixed Plate
The hunt for good, cheap food in Maui can seem hopeless. Lucky for us, a lot of friends pointed us in the direction of Aloha Mixed Plate which is just on the edge of Lahaina. Here, you can get a HUGE plate of food for between $6 and $13 depending on what you order. We went twice! Our favorites were the coconut prawns, the BBQ Mixed Plate and $3 mai tais (best real mai tai I had the whole time in Maui).

9…Lahaina
I would like to start things off by saying…
MAUI IS AWESOOOOOOOOOOOME!!!
Also, I would like to say thank you to every bee who sent me PMs and left me info on Maui. It was so helpful!
Now, I would like to pass on some helpful information to you.
